Not the way the Sonics would have hoped to start off, but a big rebounding performance from Swifty is always promising. A lackluster showing all around for the rest of the guys. Petro had 4 points on 2/3 shooting with 1 rebound in 11 minutes while Aaron Miles was 5/1 in 19.

With this roster I expect for us to continually get our ass kicked in the summer league.

I'm impressed w/ Bobby Swift board work and I'm optimistic that he'll continue to improve his offensive output. This is a big time for him and he needs to meet the challenge.

Jo Pet needs to get more than 11 minutes. Even if he's not ready it's important for him to get some court time b/c I don't think that he'll be able to get this same experience during the season.

I think, given you can't foul out in the summer league, then Petro needs to be up around the 20-25 minute mark. We're not going to do a lot with this roster as the wise oh Shiekton stated above me (how prophetic), and big Johan and Casanova are the two who it is most important get the minutes.

14 rebounds is a good start, given Sean May, who was an animal on the boards in college, only snagged 10.

San Antonio Spurs 74
Seattle Supersonics 72

Leading Scorers
SAS: Britton Johnsen 17
SEA: Alex Scales 15

Leading Assisters

Box Score (PDF) | Recap

Supes drop a close one to the champs. Alex Scales once again leads the squad in scoring and adds 5 assists. Petro played only 9 minutes this game and accumulated 2 points and another rebound. Jermaine Blackburn added 12 while Felix Noel put up 11. Bob Swift had a nice rebounding performance again, tabbing 8 boards.

Game 1 Standout: Alex Scales

Thanks for the updates.

I saw Oregon play a few times this year but for the life of me I can't remember Scales. Might he be a sleeper? or a summertime flash in the pan?

Summer league means nothing. Just a chance to see the younguns play is all.

Welll, OK. But if we go 0-3 we should fire Bob Weiss.

Fire Bob Weiss? Over the Summer League? C'mon, now. Winning isn't the goal in the summer league. The Supes want to develop Johan and Robert Swift a bit, but in regards to everyone else, well they're just looking for a guy to stick on the ir.

You can't fire Weiss just because the Mateen Cleaves & Robert Swift combo isn't working.

They should give Johan more minutes..Maybe let him play at the 4 with Swift on the court.

And yeah..0-2..I just hate seeing the Sonics lose.

Can't get more minutes when you foul out.

Jo Pet is quickly learning that even summer ball is different than Pro A France.

I thought fouls didn't count in the summer league?

Yeah, you can't foul out in summer league. I remember someone getting 9 fouls (I think it was Channing Frye, not sure).

You're right, I just saw it takes 8 (if I can remember correctly) fouls to be disqualified.

I read that Sikma said Petro has no concept of how to play defense without fouling. With Fortson and Collison (led by the foundation of the departed BGJ) he should fit right into our front line.

I remember Araujo getting eight fouls last year, including three techs, in a summer league game.

As for Fortson, I remember a quote from Rick Pitino a few years back when he was in Boston - "He knocks people over and then doesn't understand what he's doing wrong."

The scary part of that is, he came from Europe where the style of play is less physical.

Thats dissapointing tho, he plays for 9 minutes and racks up 6 fouls, that must be very frustrating for him.
