<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Casual:</div><div class="quote_post">The scary part of that is, he came from Europe where the style of play is less physical.</div> Just the opposite!! In Europe the defense is more agressive and refs don't call those touch fouls that NBA is trying to take out of the game.... In European basketball teams rarely reach 100 pts plateau in a game....so Petro is just not used to play that kind of defense...I can't understand why everyone in US think that European defense is soft....defense in European highest level is definetely better than defense in NBA....especcially team defense and helping out....basketball here is much more defensive minded..... I think Petro can adjust to that NBA style of play because he is so young and he is quite athletic.....

Larry O'Bannon led the team with 14 points, while Felix Noel and Ezra Williams had 13 and 12 respectively. Casanova played 22 minutes, but only produced four points and four rebounds, while Petro played 13 minutes for six fouls, two steals and three blocks.

A good game for somer relatively unknowns such as Felix Noel, Ezra Williams, Jermaine Blackburn, and Andre Brown. Mateen Cleaves had a 11/5 performance in 23 minutes and Larry O'Bannon led all scorers with 14 points. Aaron Miles has yet to show any sort of sign that he is NBA worthy and Johan Petro was held to 0 points in 13 minutes and a single rebound while racking up SIX fouls. Not a good ratio my friends. Game 3 Standout: Mateen Cleaves
Man Johan is dissapointing thus far, maybe we should send him to the NBDL or something, hes racking up fouls instead of points/rebounds.

Mateen Cleaves impresses once again, this time with an 18/4 performance. Petro does the usual with 5 fouls in 9 minutes while scoring a bucket. Alex Scales had another solid outing with 13 points. Another strong showing from Mateen Cleaves as he leads the team in scoring with 18 again. Kaniel Dickens made a name for himself this game with a 17/10 performance. Johan Petro had only 4 fouls in 19 minutes!! A noted improvement of course... Swifty finished with 6/9. Game 3 Standout: Kaniel Dickens
Just did some research on Dickens - he's 27 and was on New Jersey's roster for a period. As for Petro, six points, two rebounds and only four fouls in 19 minutes isn't anything special, but it's a step in the right direction. Hopefully he can have an equally good, if not better showing in our next (and last?) game. Summer league seems to be very guard oriented, as long as Casanova is rebounding and staying out on the floor I'm happy. Still would like to see him get a few more looks though, by now we know what Cleaves is capable of.
Sonics 83 Mavericks 72 Alex Scales continues to impress, with 19 points (6/10 shooting, 2/3 from downtown) four rebounds and three dimes, Mateen had 14 and seven dimes, Andre Brown 14 and five boards, while both Kaniel Dickens and Jermaine Blackburn had 11 points. Disappointing conclusions for both Casanova and Petro. Swift had three points and five rebounds, while Petro had two rebounds and four fouls. Boxscore.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Shard:</div><div class="quote_post">Day 1: Game 1 Standout: Robert "Casanova" Swift</div> Finished watching the tape delay of this game on NBA TV yesterday. (it aired on Sunday, but I was slow to finish it.) Swifty looked pretty good in the first half. Got a bunch of blocks, some nice put backs and low post scoring. In the second half he had a nice midrange jumper on the baseline. He did get a lot of rebounds in the game, but mostly from his size. He seems as lazy as Jerome around the hoop. I saw quite a few boards that he SHOULD have gotten where he either didn't move at all, or he kind of weakly stretched out an arm while a six footer leapt off the ground 18" to grab the board. He seems REALLY slow on the court in general and has little to no passion/fire. Petro on the other hand is all passion and fire, with little in the range of patience or skills. He is like a really big and sloppy Reggie Evans. He had a nice follow through put back on a fast break. Someone (Scales maybe) missed a jumper on the break...someone else failed a tip in and Petro, last on the break, just busts through over the top of everyone, right down the middle, to tip it in. Reminded me of some of Desmond Mason's put backs, except without the flair. Unfortunately he got called for touch fouls constantly in the post. This was frustrating until I started thinking about having a 7' Reggie Evans in the post. I can see why they drafted him. If they can take a year to teach him NBA post defense and he gets a better sense for the boards, he could really tear things up in a couple of years. Cleaves was just plain solid. They need to sign him. He is a perfect third option at point, knows the offense, and is always a great team morale/cheerleader.
Thanks for the impressions. Always good to hear a first hand account Sounds like Swift has some tools to work with. Well I think I knew that from some of the highllights and the McDonald's game. Plus the staff and rest of the team have been pretty positive about him all along. But he certainly can't be passive around the hoop, not at his position. I think he needs to shave his head and grow a goatee. Re: Cleaves, by all accounts he's been stellar this summer league. If we sign Flip and Juan then we're looking at Luke-Ray-Flip-Juan and Cleaves. I'm trying to remember if we carried 5 guards last year, or if he's the odd man out. He still has to prove he can hit a shot in a regular season game, though.

I think Dixon will pick somewhere with more potential for PT and is waiting to see if we match any offers to Flip. While they are not the same type of player, I don't think you want two guys with the same (relatively) price tag playing the same role. But, we will have to see.

I think opposing players see a pre-teen out there and salivate while running into the post calling for the ball. I think it was Coby Dietrick (if anyone remembers that guy) or Billy Paultz who, when asked why all the facial hair, replied 'Because black guys are scared of white guys with beards.'
