Powell leads the way in win for SPL Lakers By Earl Williams, Staff writer LONG BEACH -- It was Carlos Powell's night to have a breakout offensive performance for the Lakers during their game against the Dallas Mavericks in front of a nearly full house at the Summer Pro League Friday night at the Pyramid. The 6-foot-7 forward out of South Carolina scored 18 points and the Lakers played better on-the-ball defense on the perimeter and clogged the middle en route to a 115-101 victory. "I think I'm a lot looser," Powell said. "I have five games under my belt and I am used to the triangle. No one really knows who I am. I just have to make a name for myself." Von Wafer scored 14 points and the Lakers' top draft pick from last month, 17-year-old center Andrew Bynum, finished with 11 points. David Logan led Dallas with 30 points. -- Earl Williams
