All right, my question to other Chicago Bulls fans is should we retire Dennis Rodman?s number? Let me make a pro and con case for Robinson first. He did only play three seasons for us, but in each of those seasons he helped Michael and Scottie win a title. He averaged 15.3 rebounds a game in his three seasons in Chicago converted to rebounds per 48 minutes it would come out to roughly be 21.3 rebounds a game. He lead the league in offensive rebounding twice in his three seasons with the Bulls and was second in the league in his final season with the team, but lead the league in defensive rebounds that season to make up for it. He was first in the league in overall rebounding during his time with the Bulls (all three seasons). Now the con he was a disgrace to himself and the league with his antics during his time in the league the Bulls as a franchise would have to ask themselves weather they want his name associated with the franchise permanently by raising his number into the rafters. If I take both situations into account I would retire his number, because although he was not the greatest guy off the field, and did not play long with the team. During his time here he did what he was brought in to do and won us three titles along side Jordan and Pippen. So would you retire Rodman?s number if you were in the Bulls front office?
I would say no, he did contribute to the championships but we all know it was mostly MJ and Pip, but the real main reason is because he didnt play for the Bulls as long as he shouldve to have his jersey retired in chi-town. Also..the guys a freaaakkk.
IMO i feel that we should retire his number. Even though he only played 3 seasons with us they were each championship seasons. His rebounding numbers are just insane. Personaly I don't think that what a person does off the court should effect whether their jersey is retired. Im sure if we were talkin about a class guy like say Grant Hill winning 3 championships with the bulls and putting up those rebounding numbers we wouldn't think twice about not retiring his jersey.
Another factor i would put is even though as miamiballa12 said i mean he was an outstanding rebounder but i aunno its just its hard not to doubt a guy that was a 3rd option, dont get me wrong hes good but in my opinion to have your jersey retired you have to be the leader of the team or the 2nd guy that was the x-factor(pip)

He wasnt really an offensive option. He was in their for rebounding and defense. IMO defensive/rebounding players deserve to get their jerseys retired too depending on their accomplishments.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting TheTruth5:</div><div class="quote_post">I would say no, he did contribute to the championships but we all know it was mostly MJ and Pip</div> I have to disagree with you there. Rodman filled the void left by Horace Grant in the second three peat. He lead the league in rebounding like I said before each of his seasons here, and we probably would not have beaten Utah had he not gotten into Karl Malone?s head like he did. We had a dominate inside presence for both our championship runs first with Grant then Rodman if it was not for Rodman I do not think we would have been able to get past the void. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting TheTruth5:</div><div class="quote_post"> but the real main reason is because he didnt play for the Bulls as long as he shouldve to have his jersey retired in chi-town.</div> I do not see the big deal about him not playing a long time with the team. I mean if he put up these numbers and did not win a title would that have made a better case for us retiring his number? I think we should judge it on what we accomplished with him here and his stats and accomplishments while he was here. I mean if Shaquille wins a title in Miami right now and only plays three or four seasons there should that be taken into account as a penalty when they are considering weather or not to retire his number? <div class="quote_poster">Quoting TheTruth5:</div><div class="quote_post"> Also..the guys a freaaakkk.</div> I agree with you there that is my biggest reservation off the court he was really not the communities favorite person. However, I think that if he has the talent and performed well that is more than enough to get his number retired. I am not saying he was one of the most likable people in Bulls history, but having your number retired is not really based on what you did off the court, but the talent you brought to the team on it. Also I said that in my earlier post in this thread if we retire his number his name would be permanently associated with the organization. However, in reality it already has been permanently branded on the team in his time in Chicago he was possibly behind Jordan the biggest personality on the team.

Then you should think the same about Rodman despite his personality he offered the Bulls exactly what Big Ben offers the Pistons a factor on the boards, and a guy who can intimidate players he is defending. Only Ben does it with his shot blocking ability, Rodman did it with his mouth.
After hard thought i see you have a point, but comparing shaq with rodman was wrong. The Heat are nothing without shaq, the bulls are still great without Rodman. Even though he contributed he didnt change the way the bulls played the way shaq does with the Heat.

He was just asking if their would be a penalty for Shaq only playing a few years with them.

True we had Jordan and Pippen, but the team never won one of the six titles without a big player inside getting rebounds like Grant and Rodman did. I was not comparing Shaq and Rodman on a talent base. Both offer different things to there teams I was simply noting the number of years each played/probably will play (in Shaq?s case) with there respected franchises to combat your point that he should not have his number retired due to the number of years he played.
we do need to retire Rodman's jersey, yes the man is an idiot at times but the man is one of the greatest rebounders of all time and was in his prime as a Bull
Tough call, but i would say no. No disrespect to what he's done for the Bulls, but he doesn't qualify imo. Why? - I think too much numbers are getting retired in general. Only the truly greats should get that honor. Or players that are forever linked to an organisation for some reason. - He didn't play long enough for the Bulls. When i think about rodman, even though he played for us, i think of one team: Pistons. If any team should retire his jersey, it would have to be the Pistons imo. But that doesn't mean i don't like the guy. The fact that he was/is a freak on and off the court doens't bother me one bit. More fun to watch ;-)
Yes i think Bulls should retire Dennis Rodmans #91 jersey i know that titles in 96-98 were mostly becoes MJ and Pippen but still he had big part in titles. He was best rebounder too in 96-98 imo.Without Rodman Bulls would be much worse team.
