He finally signed with us. I think it was 5 years, around 28 million. NO need for sign and trade or anything. Guess he wanted the experience of yao and tmac. Great job by the rockets, i had started to doubt them.
crazy! I love it, I think its a huge credit to CD in that we didnt have to do a sign-and-trade...this means we can still get another major impact player...wowzers, I'm so ecstatic!! a major signing for the Rockets...
First off, I want to see the source first before I comment too much. I've seen way too much unvalidated rumors so I just want to be sure this is true. Anyway, if we did sign him, I support Dawson and I think that it was a great move considering a lot of the powerforwards are already gone. Hopefully, he can add some interior offense and most of all- improve his consistency and defense. If Swift can work on those things, we are closer than ever to contending in the playoffs.
Yes, source please.. 5 years 28 mil is a fair risk to take on someone like Swift imo. Might be a little too much for somebody that relies purely on his athleticism, but after seeing the stupid contracts I've seen with many players, I can live with it.
Now ESPN is reporting that Abdur-Rahim is going to NJ. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2110920
A very good signing for the Rockets, Swift is definately a great addition to their froncourt. He gives them another inside scorer, good shot blocking, and also a little more toughness inside.
That's great news for you Rockets fans, congrats! Glad he was willing to take less money inorder to win. Hopefully with Swift and SAR being signed for less money, other players could soon realize that it's not about the money.
why is everyone so happy this guy is not that great hes good but not that good. they could have gone after someone who could be more consistent but swift is a wildcard, well have to see what happens.
With all the commitments the other FA big men had, who do you think we could've gotten realistically? Swift's one of the best available at this point in time.

Especially for 28Mil for 5 years. Swift could have earned alot more than that but he used his brain and decided to join a team with a bright future.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Good move by the Rockets, they look solid i expect them be a 4th- 5th seed around there.</div> Uhh, they were already the 5th seed last season. Anyways, now that its confirmed- I've got to say I'm pretty excited. As I've said above, if this winning mentality can promote some work ethic into Swift, then we should be set. By bringing in Swift, Houston successfully solidifies the powerforward spot with either him backing up Juwan Howard or vice versa. Either way, it provides some depth to the position. In addition, both can hit the jumper- although Swift needs to make this more consistent, which allows more versalities to the pick and roles that Van Gundy uses. Also, Swift brings more offense to the table which makes it harder for teams to shut down the role players since they'll need to worry about him as well. However, some weaknesses that I do see at this point is the lack of rebounding. Neither Howard nor Swift are great rebounders. Both of these guys are considered to be more offensive weapons rather than the low post defender that wipes that boards clean. And here's what worries me the most- we're almost stuck in the same situation we were in last year. It causes Yao to have to grab most of the rebounds, and since he doesn't excel banging down low- it gives Houston a big weakness at getting second shot attempts. That creates a problem where Yao can't drift out of the paint to take jump shots which is really what he is great at. This is must- Swift needs to a better work ethic if Houston wants to win more games. Hopefully, going to a better team makes him more motivated which might be able to help his rebounding and consistency. Hopefully.
