The greatest thing about this signing is that it brings much needed athleticism to the front-court.. A great counter-balance to Yao's game and presence.. Swift's a better fit because he doesn't require the ball to be as effective as he is.. SAR demands the ball and would just take away touches from Yao..
I can't believe we got him!, I can't believe how excited I am! YEAH! SWIFT BABY!! Oh my...I'll post something more in depth later..but now..YEAH!!! *Does Swift hand movement*
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting RoXoR:</div><div class="quote_post"> ..now lets go and sign Barry and Mutumbo and were good for the season Rockets to da ship...fasho </div> Nice pic, but isn't Luther number 4?
Swift has alot of talent and now he has been given a chance to start could become a big time player at PF. With the attention T-mac and Yao creates, Stro should have an easier time of things inside. If the Rockets get Stoudemire then they are title contenders for sure.
Good solid deal. Although I like Marshall better, truth be told, we need youth. I'm still not sure if Swift was worth that much cash, but he could've signed for much more by the nets, so I guess it was good. So whats the deal with Damon Stoudamire? Do we need another aging PG?
Yeah CD starts to do something that amuses me really... I never expected we could have Swift. Maybe a good ball-passing SG would just satisfy me, and now CD kicks my bu77 and whets my appetite....
Yey..I'm so happy with this deal! Like most of you said, I think Swift can be a good defensive player under JVG and the fact that he averaged 9 ppg and 5 rpg in his career given limited minutes, shows he can do so much more given at least 30 mpg. He's the type that can put back dunk missed shots and all and that would make us a more exciting team. Yeheey can't wait for July 22 when he officialy signs with us
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting hungi1115:</div><div class="quote_post">i dun think this is a good siging... he is thin and cant bang down low. he'll get kill on defense.</div> I think he's a better defender than SAR and he's capable of banging down low if necessary. He will posterize people and give the Rockets more opportunities to run the fast break because of his incredible finishing ability.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Tracy1:</div><div class="quote_post">Great sign, now the only position Rockets need to fill in is the PG spot.</div> Maybe they can draw Stro's former teamate Earl Watson into joining the Rockets, then I will give them a shot a competing with the Spurs for the West.
I heard Portland was releasing Derek Anderson. Does anybody know if he's interested in coming to Houston. I think he would be the missing piece to the puzzle of winning a ring. Am I reaching?
He's kind of a undersized SG who doesn't have great PG skills, I htink your better of with Watson, Jones, or Daniels
Yeah I agree with playmaker, Stoudamire or Jones would be much better for us, but to be honest I would of expected us to be going after more of a passing point guard, I know Stoudamire has decent passing ability but he's a shoot first point guard, i'm not sure if he can change his ways, but still if he can't I can see him doing what Sura was doing except with a much more consistent jumpshot. After all their stats for the 04-05 season were quite similar except Damon averaged about 5 more points and played 3 more minutes.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting playmaker31:</div><div class="quote_post">He's kind of a undersized SG who doesn't have great PG skills, I htink your better of with Watson, Jones, or Daniels</div> How tall is he? Isn't he like 6'5. The reason I mentioned Derek Anderson over Watson, or Jones is because he's an athletic veteran with size that can fill the wings. He'd also be able to give Mcgrady some much needed rest. I remember when he was playing for San Antonio, they were on they're way to a ring until D.A. got hurt. Don't know if signing ANOTHER PG would be a good move. We already are overstocked.
I think Stro is a great pick up for all the reasons listed above, but I think he can be very valuable in helping to improve Yao's game. Yao can get lot of practice with someone a lot quicker and athletic than he is and won't get worked over when a team puts a smaller guy on him. Now the Rockets need to sign Mutombo, Barry, and possibly Padgent. I also expect them to make a move regarding our guards because we have like 8 of them.

I saw a Damon Stoudamire interview on TV and he seemed very comfortable. He said things something like <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"Some people forget that me and Tracy played together in Toronto. Tracy was in the back while I was running the show. Now Tracy is running the show and coming to Houston will be a reunion."</div> He also mentioned that he spent alot of his offseason time in Houston. It was the way he said. He sounded like the deal had already been done. If Damon comes to Houston I expect some kind of Sign and Trade between Houston and Portland.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting JuLiO-R-:</div><div class="quote_post">Swift was probably the best PF available. Especially for 28Mil for 5 years. Swift could have earned alot more than that but he used his brain and decided to join a team with a bright future.</div> In my opinion Donyell Marshall would of been a better choice. I know everyone's been talking about Swift and SAR being the big free agent PF's but i'd take Marshall over any of them.
Yeah, I agree, Marshalls deal is even cheaper than Swifts (I think), the Rockets should've pursued him more than Stromile.
