In all honesty Swift was the best fit for the rockets.......Abdu Rahim is a good player, but he cost too much, plus he's like J. Howard clone....Walker is too much of a ball hog...so yeah this was a great move for the rockets, especially at the price we got him.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting playmaker31:</div><div class="quote_post">Yea but that's the biggest need right now for the Rockets. DA doesn't fit in Houston IMO.</div>
What do you think is the biggest need? Another PG (5 on the roster) or a combo guard that can play 3 positions (PG, SG, SF). Right now, Tmac is going to still be playin 40 plus mins a night [IMG] He needs a decent back up. I understand everybody's want to get another point guard, but it's proven that teams can win rings without a true PG. Look at Detroit, even the Lakers. Not trying to stirr up anything, just stating opinion.
Oh yea........Swift was a better pick up than Marshall, because he's about 10 years younger. If he doesn't produce, he'll be decent trade bait in the future.

I prefer Swift for the reasons mentioned above... athleticism, more defensive presence, doesn't take away touches from Tmac and Yao to be effective, youth, etc etc.

The benefits outweigh the negative in my opinion. The key thing I think is that Swift doesn't need alot of touches to average a decent amount of ppg. That way Tmac and Yao can still get theirs and stay in their groove. In fact, they might be more comfortable taking shots because Swift will be there to clean up whereas before, the Rockets have nobody to putback misses.

Marshall is already 32 years old. I much rather have a 25 year old athletic PF who can block and finish plays.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting JuLiO-R-:</div><div class="quote_post">I saw a Damon Stoudamire interview on TV and he seemed very comfortable. He said things something like

He also mentioned that he spent alot of his offseason time in Houston. It was the way he said. He sounded like the deal had already been done. If Damon comes to Houston I expect some kind of Sign and Trade between Houston and Portland.</div>
Yeah i've got that video, i'll try and put it up soon!

that is hilarious!! [IMG] swift is the best pick up IMO cuz he has many years to grow. if everyone likes the situation we can be looking at a frontcourt of swift, yao, and tmac for 10 + yrs. WOW!

I'd doubt it, they'd be in their mid thirties by then and the organization would likely be pushing in the young players.

And for everyone talking about signing a point guard- its not going to happen. We already have Sura, James, and Head that going to run the point so adding another would just screw up the rotations. There's simply not enough minutes. Plus, Houston will need to start developing Head and see if he can successfully grow into a point guard. However, what I do feel will happen is that either James or Sura packaged along with another player for a true point guard- a good playmaker. Basically someone that can run the team other than McGrady. My hopefuls for this position are Watson (athletic and good passer), Damon Jones (doing same job he had last season), Chris Duhon (another playmaker), or Dan Dickau.

not a great deal, not a horrible deal.. good solid deal for the MLE. I wouldn't say "bargain" because I think that's about how much he's worth on the FA market. He is limited offensively - his jumper isn't as good as Juwan's, but he doesn't need the ball to score.. he can probably score 4-6 points a game on garbage points alone. He will bring excitement with his leaping ability and shotblocking but he's not that great of a on-the-ball defender. He should help Yao out though, since Yao won't be counted on as much to protect the hoop with Stro floating around on the weak side. And T-Mac and Stro on the break will be fun to watch [IMG]

I beleive this deal was a solid one. We got him for a reasonable price and I beleive Van Gundy can mold him into a force. Considering the fact that he could have gobbled up a bigger deal from the Nets shows me that he is on the right path.

You guys think mcgrady could/ should restructure his deal like KG did couple years back so we could get some better talent to surround our stars with ?

He's a good player, but he fits this team great! He's exactly what the Rockets needed.

Sorry for being late my fellow, die-hard Rocket fans.

As I said, I'd love to take Swift and what did we do? We got swift. I'm not saying being the a young team means Championships by I seriously believe the Rockets got a steal in the Off-Season. I can't wait to say, "Remember how you thought that Swift had no work-ethic? Well, look at him now!"
