<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Philly GM says Dalembert will remain a Sixer By Chad Ford ESPN Insider It looks like negotiations between the Philadelphia 76ers and restricted free agent Samuel Dalembert took a turn for the worse on Monday. The two sides have been negotiating for three weeks but have been unable to come to terms on a new contract. Over the course of the last week, there has been a great level of frustration on both sides. On Monday, Dalembert's agent, Marc Cornstein, said Dalembert had scheduled a visit in Atlanta with the Hawks on Monday, July 25. In an e-mail to Insider, Sixers general manager Billy King said the Sixers are still determined to match any offer for Dalembert. "Sam will be in Philly whether it is at our number or a number that someone else sets," King wrote. "HE WILL BE IN PHILADELPHIA ONE WAY OR ANOTHER." When asked about King's stance, Cornstein acted surprised. "We're getting mixed messages," Cornstein said. "They've drawn a line in the sand with Sammy's contract with what they're willing to pay. Yet he's telling you they'll match any offer. There is a huge gap between Philadelphia's offer and what other teams under the salary cap can offer."</div> Source Sorry to say, but bad news everyone.
Here are my views on free agents that are restricted. Don?t negotiate with them unless you can get them cheap under the new collective bargaining agreement a max offer from the team the player last played for is worth more than a max offer from any other team. You can always match any offer to a restricted free agent so let the other team worry about negotiating details if it is a prime restricted free agent such as JJ, Dalembert, and players such as that players who might receive max offers. Then go in and match it saves the team time, money, and trouble. Honestly I think that the Hawks are a team prime free agents are turning to so they can get attention from there current team or get a offer that there current team does not want to give them ye they know will be matched. Who wants to play for the Hawks? No offense to that organization or its fans, but a player coming from a winning organization is only going to the Hawks for the money if anything that is a last resort. Look at what Steven Jackson did going from the Spurs to the Hawks only to raise his market value, and get good stats then left as soon as he hit free agency. Also I think it is a bad move by general managers to say ?we will match any offer made? because then that encourages other teams to over pay restricted free agents hoping they will get lucky. Like the Hawks will apparently do with Joe Johnson to try and pry him away from the Suns. This is bad news, but it is all part of the business I see Samuel as a 76ers come opening day next season. If he is not I will be surprised. I think the only way Dalembert is leaving is through a sign and trade that is the only option to let him leave the team. If Billy lets him walk he will alienate himself for having taken Louis Williams in the second round instead of a bigger player like a Taft or Jones.
Sounds like a fun negotiation period!! We do need to have Dalembert, he is a great young talented centre and there are far too few of them for us to lose Sammy. Let's just hope it does not cost us too much!!!
Interesting, I agree though that King should not make it clear that he is going to match whatever offer comes to Sam, because then teams can offer him crazy contracts pressuring the 76ers to mock them in order to keep Samuel. But at the same time the 76ers do have to reassure how much they honor him, and while Sam hears this I'm sure he will be flattered to see that the 76ers are dedicated to keep him in Philadelphia no matter what circumstances. I believe King is a man on a mission right now, and with that being said I am assured that we will be seeing Dalembert in a 76ers uniform for a long time to come.
Right now, I would play the field and see what you can get for Dalembert. If Atlanta gives him the max deal, I don't care how much potential he has there is no way a person who is putting up eight points a game, should be getting the max contract, the same contract that most all-stars will be given. The market value for these kind of guys has reached an all-time high and you can tell that Dalembert is taking advantage of this. It's ridiculous how much a seven foot center that has potential will get now days, it's actually pretty sad. Also the best part about this is, Dalembert has potential to be a star yet our two biggest stars on this team have a good two years in them left. I don't know if we can wait to develop Dalembert into his potential.
well, if billy has to give sammy the max to let him stay, i say just do a sign and trade with atlanta. i mean, although sammy's a great player with a great upside, do you really think he deserves the max? i would say, maybe trade him for josh childress and some 2nd round picks? i know then our center spot will be extreamly weak, but if we do keep him, think about how bad our cap will be. we'll be as bad as the knicks or even worse.
Without signing Dalembert we can forgot going anywhere in the playoffs this year IMO. The Nets have gotten alot better, signing Shareef. The Celtics are better with their draft. We need Dalembert back, if Webber's knee doesnt hold up we have no front line. The best way to win in the east is to have good quality big men, like Detroit. Webber and Dalembert could start with Marc Jackson and maybe Donyell Marshall backing them up.

Negotiations Stil Not Good With Sammy <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Posted on Thu, Jul. 21, 2005 Sixers struggling to sign Dalembert BY MARC NARDUCCI Knight Ridder Newspapers PHILADELPHIA - (KRT) - The 76ers remain in limbo with restricted free-agent center Samuel Dalembert, but it isn't because of a lack of effort. Sixers president and general manager Billy King was in New York on Wednesday night for NBA business and also met with Dalembert's agent, Marc Cornstein. "Nothing new to report," King responded last night in an e-mail. Asked if the sides would meet before Monday, when Dalembert is scheduled to visit the Atlanta Hawks, King replied: "Who knows?" According to sources, the Sixers realize that they would have to go higher than the six-year, $36 million deal that Milwaukee center Dan Gadzuric agreed to on July 12. But how much higher? Since the Sixers have the right to match any offer, King has maintained since the negotiating period began on July 1 that he would do just that. Atlanta is one of the few teams that has enough space under the cap to make a sizable offer to Dalembert.</div> link:http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews...ts/12192699.htm well, it seems like sammy's going to get a lot of money. if the money sammy gets paid reaches too high, the best case scenerio is to just do a sign and trade. we're already in cap hell, and if this continues, who knows when we'll get out?
All I'm hoping for now is for Phoenix to not match whatever offer Atlanta had for Joe Johnson. That way, they wouldn't have enough cap space or whatever to sign Dalembert. Right now with things looking like this, I think that's our only chance of getting Sammy back. Hope he stays.
