<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Eddy Curry's heart will not be covered by the company the NBA uses to insure contracts, the Sun-Times has learned, meaning the Bulls' restricted free-agent center is unlikely to be offered a long-term deal. Curry, 22, was sidelined for three months with an irregular heartbeat, which first flared up during a home game March 28. Multiple examinations in several cities could not pinpoint the problem, and Los Angeles-based cardiologist David Cannom green-lighted Curry's return to action June 30. But not all of the Bulls' doctors were convinced. At least one wanted Curry to submit to a DNA test that might have helped determine the possibility of Curry suffering hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which contributed to the deaths of Hank Gathers and Reggie Lewis. Curry refused and sought opinions from his own doctors, including Cannom. The Bulls were wary of offering a long-term deal until they learned whether Curry's heart would be insured. Trustmark, a Lake Forest-based insurance company, has the option of exempting 14 body parts and six players for illnesses. Curry's heart is one of the exemptions, according to a league source. Neither Curry's agent, Leon Rose, nor Bulls operations chief John Paxson was available for comment Monday.</div> Source If Paxson lets Curry go because of this it will be the biggest mistake thus far he has done in his job in the front office for us. I know it?s a risk, but Curry is worth it he could very well be the best center in the eastern conference after Shaq retires. He could very well average twenty points next season, and be an all star hopefully Paxson takes a risk.
wow, i hope eddie gets better. you would think that professional basketball players would have healthy hearts because they run so much.
Yea I really hope he gets better, but if the heart beat isn't going to be insured that means he will most likely leave Chicago for Atlanta.

If he's not insured, Atlanta isn't going to take that risk either imo. especially if they can sign Dalmebert to anoffer sheet (which is a strong possibility too apparently, since Dalembert discussions with the Sixers are not going well...) The only thing we can make out of this report at this point, is that contract negociations will likely drag on for a few more weeks...at least. And that's with any team that Curry will be talking with.

They knew that this was a possability and they are willing to take the risk on Curry IMO. Dalembert will most likely stay in Philly although they have had some tough negotiations.

I trust Paxson though, and am pretty sure he will still take a risk on Curry. He knows as well as anyone on this site the potential Curry has, and Curry wants to stay in Chicago so I think he will take a contract offer from Paxson. If he does not, and the Hawks offer him the max I think Paxson will match we have already lost many lottery picks without getting anything in return Jamal Crawford (didn?t really get much for him), Jay Williams, Marcus Fizer. He will not lose a former top ten selection, and our leading scorer without making the best out of the situation.
I think paxson has to re-sign Curry no matter what. he's so valuable to this team that I think we need to take the chance on him. Without curry in the Bulls lineup we are a totally differen't team. We saw that in last years playoffs. I don't want to go through a whole season of the Bulls playing like they did against Washington in the first round.
Curry Update <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Bulls restricted-free-agent center Eddy Curry was surprised and disappointed, according to a close friend, by the report in Tuesday's Sun-Times that Trustmark, the Lake Forest insurance company that underwrites NBA player contracts, has decided not to indemnify Curry's heart. ''He could not understand the decision because he felt that his medical clearance was supposed to solve that problem,'' the friend said. Curry, 22, was sidelined for three months with an irregular heartbeat. After numerous examinations, Los Angeles-based cardiologist David Cannom cleared Curry to return to action June 30. Bulls doctors weren't convinced, and at least one wanted Curry to submit to a DNA test to possibly determine the risk of cardiomyopathy, which could be fatal. Curry refused. Trustmark can exclude 14 body parts and six players because of illness from its coverage. ''Now he says his agents [Lamont Carter and Leon Rose] are seeing if this decision can be appealed or if he can get insurance some other place and other options,'' the friend said. ''But he still says he feels his heart is healthy enough for him to play, and he expects things to get worked out so that he can play in the NBA next season.''</div> <div align="center"> Curry Update July 20, 2005 </div>
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Despite the report that Trustmark Insurance will not indemnify the heart of Bulls free-agent center Eddy Curry because of questions about the health of his heart, Lamont Carter, one of Curry's agents, says Curry is exploring other insurance options and will resume his career even if he can't get total coverage. "Just rest assured that Eddy will be playing somewhere in the NBA next season, preferably with the Bulls,'' Carter said. "They are still his first choice. But whoever gives him a chance to play, Eddy will take advantage of that opportunity and keep all his options open. Eddy is just frustrated that after doctors examined his heart extensively and cleared him to play, there are still insurance questions about his heart. "But at the same time, Eddy realizes that this is all part of the business aspect of the NBA. Meantime, we are in communication with Hal Biagas [a lawyer for the players union] as to what options may exist for Eddy to get his own insurance. But if Eddy can only get insured for the rest of his body and not the heart, he still is determined to play because he is confident his heart is healthy enough for him to play.''</div> <div align="center"> Curry Update July 22, 2005</div>
