I would love to have him rather than murphy if that was the price we could get him at. thats over 20 million less than murphy got and abdur rahim actually has an inside game. im surprised nobody offered him more money
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting oaktank88:</div><div class="quote_post">http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2110920</div> Thanks! He would definitely appeal to Cal fans. A bit of a tweener, but he's a good 20/10 player. Not great at D, but he's got an all around type of game and he's cheap. The moratorium isn't over yet is it? Some team could offer more I think.
Yeah no kidding. Last year I wanted to give Richardson a contract but wait 1 more year for Murphy to see how he responded after an injury plagued year. Knowing what we know now we could have saved a ton of money on his contract and it would have made our cap situation much better to sign other players now and in the future...
I guess another team could offer more but this deal is all but done, as Marc Stein was on sportscenter last night talking about this deal and how either these two things happen: The Blazers and Nets do a Sign and Trade where portland signs him for 6 years 38 million and NJ sends a future 1st rounder, or the sign and trade doesn't happen and the nets sign him for 5 years 29 million. 5 years 29 million is such a freakin bargain, he has a cheaper contract than fisher and foyle!!! Man, i wish we hadn't resigned murphy and gone after this guy.
After the deal's Joe Johnson and Redd got Richardson is actually a bargain. Murphy is far from a bargain but he produces numbers. Diogu, Taft and Biedrins can all play his position and all offer things he can't. Taft has soft hands, good athleticism, and a nice back to the basket game. Biedrins can finish inside and plays much tougher than Murph. Diogu can shoot the J as well as Murph, play better help defense and is very crafty around the basket. Each one of them have their own weaknesses but together form a very strong frontline. If Diogu steps up and just puts up a double double, it makes Murphy expendable.
Well if it's pretty much a done deal, I think the bottom line was that Reef told his agent that he wants to go to a winner that needs him. Since N.J. didn't have the cap that we had when we were signing our free agents, it means the Nets have to take what they can get and luckily Portland wants something for the unrestricted free agent. I don't think we had that sort of pull the nets did because we were a losing team with a lot of cap. No leverage, and players wanting that green we had available. Man the nets now look pretty scary. New Jersey has Kidd, V.C., Richard Jefferson. That's like 3 all-stars there even though R.J. isn't technically an all-star. It could fall apart just as easily as our lineup, though. Kidd could get hurt, V.C. is always going to be hurt, Richard Jefferson might get hurt, and Shareef's been hurt. I had like 2 or 3 of these guys in my fantasy lineup and they were useless, yet they somehow made the playoffs at least (Shows us how bad the East is with the exception of the Pacers, Pistons, Heat).
Is there sonetihng in the new CBA that makes agents less powerful? All of these relativley cheap signings of Swift, Reef, and Marshall seem so strange when the FA guards who come a dime a dozen are getting overpaid. I hope Mullin uses this as a bargaining chip against Dun, "Look at what Reef got Dun, you suck way worse than he does, here is the MLE." I doubt Mullin would do that to his boy but I think he will give Dunleavy "Murphy money" then package Murphy and one of the F-Troupe (Fish and Foyle) for a C or expiring contract. I still dont think NJ is to be feared, they are easily the worst defensive team in the league (on paper), they are old, and they arent deep. At least we have Foyle, Baron, and Pietrus. All they have is Jefferson in terms of defense.

If the Nets can get some depth they could take the Atlantic. Their bench is weak, but their starting 5 is really nice.... PG Kidd SG Carter SF Jefferson PF Abdur-Rahim C Krstic Yes, the Abdur-Rahim deal is a steal.
