<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I believe Andris Biedrins is the most important Warrior entering this season. Calm down, take a deep breath, stop cursing at your screen and let me explain.Baron Davis is the MVP of the team. He?s their best player, with Jason Richardson not too far behind. As a matter of fact, Biedrins probably wouldn?t crack the top five of best Warriors right now. But he?s the most important and biggest wildcard for how far the Warriors will go this year.Everybody knows that Baron cannot get hurt or this team is in trouble. So I?m factoring out injuries. Given that, you pretty much know what you?re getting from Baron, Richardson, Dunleavy, Foyle and so on. At 19 years old, Biedrins has the most potential to improve and strengthen the Warriors. Personally, I think he?s a good year or two from any type of breakout season. But I think he can improve enough to make a difference this year. He?s the guy that can take the Warriors from being a borderline playoff team to a No. 6 seed. He?s the guy who can make other teams fear the Warriors if he develops a respectable low-post game and continues improving on defense. He?s the guy who the Warriors aren?t necessarily counting on to be a major factor this season, making him the biggest wildcard and difference-maker when it comes to how good they CAN be. He is that important. Biedrins also plays a position where the Warriors haven?t had a great player in?..well, it?s too long to remember. In many ways, he?s the most important Warrior heading into the future. He may also be their best rebounder if given the minutes. Troy Murphy, the team?s leading rebounder and sixth best in the league last season, averaged 10.8 rebounds in 33.9 minutes. That?s one rebound every 3.14 minutes. Biedrins, who averaged 3.9 rebounds in 12.8 minutes, pulled one rebound every 3.28 minutes. The Warriors ranked last in the NBA in rebounding. Something tells me he needs more minutes. He can also make his presence felt defensively. I personally think he can be a Marcus Camby/Ben Wallace type of defender in a few years. Call me crazy, but I think he can be one of the best in the league. But that?s looking ahead and being very optimistic. The thing I like about Biedrens at this point is that in everygame he plays in he either gets atleast one dunk or a block. He does not do much more than that IMO, but then again I dont see very many games.
I hoped that he will be more impresive in summer league, but I hope that it was effect of hard training in summer. The thing I like about him is that, we know that he is not enjoying the summer now, and is sweting in gym or weigths room, to become a better player. Even when he came back to Latvia after the season, most of the time he spent working with his old coach and good friend. Maybe there will be things this year that he will not be able to do in NBA, but you can be sure, that he will do the maximum effort to make it happen.
Yeah, I was hoping to hear more about him in the summer league. We will see what happens during the season. I want to see him get more minutes than he did last year...
I don't expect anything from Biedrins. He is still extremely raw and capable of picking up 6 fouls in 6 seconds. And, he still is the youngest kid in our club. Yes, younger then Ellis. I still think he is another year or two from making a real contribution for the club. I think the key for our next season is Foyle. So far, Foyle also was a slow starter for his career, but his problem was masked by Dampier's slow start in early seasons. For us, early season will be very crucial for this club, not only for high expectation, but for entire team's chemistry. And, if we want to start fast, Foyle's defense is must for this club, like how he was active at the end of last season...
I'm afraid that the team will try to pump up Murphy's numbers which will hurt Foyle tremendously. As long as Murphy and Dunleavy are on the court at the same time, Foyle will get into foul trouble and will struggle
Indications have been that Murphy will play more C than in recent years, leaving Ike some PF action. Biedrens will get playing time, and as he develops, his minutes will grow. He may play as much as 1/3 of the C time by midseason. It's a bit early to expect a huge role, and yet I agree he has displayed some real good qualities, has a good foundation of natural tools and wants to improve,is willing to hustle and battle. Andy B is,in a sense,a wildcard in that if he gets it really quick,he could be quite a boost. We have, however, several other guys who very well could appear on opening day much improved overall. All of our frontcourt returnees had some area where its obvious they should try to improve-and all those guys happen to have a pretty good work ethic. Whether it's Murphy,Duns,Adonal,Andy,Pietrus or Zarko,I expect some surprising evolution from some of our guys. I think many of us agree on what each guy needed to work on-and I suspect most of them are working on those things.
