I'm not 100% on how legit this is but I wouldn't mind Jay Williams on this team, Although I have no idea how well he's been playing after that motorcycle accident...

Even if this isn't a legit source, I'd take JW over Barry. Even though he had an accident..I believe he can still do what he's done in the past. Be a great and hearted player.

J will is a great player but like everyone else im skeptic of a guy that couldnt even walk a year ago. Barry was a good spark of the bench but i think he makes bad decisions alot.

Theres always a high risk with a player returning from injury. J-Will was prolific in college and could potential work out well for us. Then again, there have been other prolific college players who turned out to be trash in the NBA.

You'd take a player coming off a serious injury over you're smartest player and best shooter? I'm glad CD is Rockets GM and not some of us.lol
Do you know how many PG's we already have? The last thing we need is ANOTHER Point guard.

Yea but Jay Williams was on his way to good career in the NBA before his accident. This would be great for the Rockets, they get a young point guard who has a very good all around game.

Jon Barry is by no means a smart player. On the fast break, he would often make stupid fancy passes which results in a turnover or just throw up a three point shot which ends up missing. Those two situations both could have resulted in easy two points. Barry is more of a crowd's player where he aims to please so I really don't think he's that smart of a player. Sure, he hustles, but so does Jay Williams. By the way, you keep complaining about the amount of point guards that we have- which is really just three plus Sura can play shooting guard. Also, we can always trade away one of the point guards so I don't know why you're overreacting about the amount of point guards that we have. The offseason's not over yet.

I would like Jay Williams simply because he has 5 inches over Damon Stoudamire...I dont think McInnis or Dickau will take what we have to offer, and we could get watson through a sign-and-trade, but I still prefer the height and strength that Williams can give at the 1 spot...

Yeah he was defenitley one of our dumbest players...sigh...http://www.nba.com/sprite/?rss=true look at # 7 Barry's three-quarters court behind-the-back pass. And all this stuff about we have so many other point guards... by my count we dont have any... we need to resign Barry and trade some of are shooting guards for a pure point guard. Barry is so good its not even funny all this talk about him pulling up and missing the three is crap...all the memories i have is him making thoughs shots and i want a crowd pleaser I want intertainment not some dude who does text book fast breaks for 2 points.

Jon Barry is a VERY smart player. I don't recall many of his "fancy passes" going out of bounds (Actually he's probably our best passer). He was also our best 3point shooter in the playoffs, and for somebody his age, he played GREAT DEFENSE. Not to mention he's a great locker room guy besides being a great role player.
It's called basketball logic. Why would you give away a consistent 3pt shooter, good passer, and team player for somebody like JWill who's undersized and a big question mark? Barry is alot more valuable than you guys make it seem. Hypothetically speaking, let's say you decide not resign Barry and bring in Jwill, WHO'S GOING TO BACK UP TMAC? Sura? C'mon guys, use you're brain.

Jon Barry could make a mistake everynow and then, but hey every player does.....I must agree that he is one of our smartest players.............and I guess I'm the only one that wouldn't be thrilled about Williams coming here....dude was great in college, but the NCAA and NBA are 2 different things.

That's quite obvious, of course CD has more knowledge about all this, and he's smarter at making decisions then anyone here and that includes you, if he wasn't then he wouldn't be our GM, I mean look at the draft, we didn't end up drafting a PF but we got a great one (for our team) in Free Agency.

I agree that Barry is a great player, I would love to have him back, he brings us hustle and is a great three point shooter, he does make stupid decisions at times though, like mentioned above shooting threes on a fastbreak, whether he gets them in or not is another story, but risking a long shot instead of going for the almost guaranteed 2 when the game doesn't require us to hit a three to take it to overtime or something is a bad decision. Also you have to learn that not everyone is required to agree with you, and if they don't then just take it, every one has their own take on things, thats why we're here to express our opinions on a subject if you want everyone to agree with everything you say I suggest you create an imaginary friend.

Don't get me wrong, I want Barry back as well. Although he's somewhat inconsistent, Barry brings a good locker room presence and some three point shooting to the team. However, like everyone he does have weaknesses as well. I have no clue what you're talking about when you praise his great defense, because in the playoffs, he was completely leaving Stackhouse or who ever he was guarding wide open. Because of his age, it just seemed like he had no energy what so ever in the winding games of the playoffs.

By the way, Jon Barry doesn't really back up McGrady. Bowen does. McGrady plays for around forty minutes then Bowen and Barry split between the last eight minutes. Thus, it wouldn't really matter if Barry leaves because he wouldn't be needed as "McGrady's Backup" and Sura can play shooting guard just fine. Although its pretty much interchangeable, Barry and Sura substitute for Wesley while Bowen substitutes for McGrady. And yes, Bobby Sura can play shooting guard. In the league, its necessary to take risks. Rockets took a risk of trading away Francis and Mobley for a "lazy" McGrady and the deal turned out to have dawned a new future on the franchise. Who knows, maybe signing Jay Williams will inch us closer to a championship.

Well I disagree. Losing Barry would be terrible. Besides Padgett, he's our only real 3pt threat. 3pt shooting is very important, especially when teams double down on Tmac and Yao. As far as Sura at shooting guard, not going to work. Why? Because Sura isn't a consistent shooter, and isn't fast enough to keep up. He can play shooting guard, but teams will just exploit that mismatch all day.
I like Jwill, but he isn't a difference maker. I would rather us get a SG/SF that can play above the rim (Derek Anderson) and give Tmac a much needed breather. If we get a PG, I'd prefer a combo guard that can play both guard positions. Actually, this kid Glover from the summer league would be perfect. He's 6'5, and can break the defense down successfully

I understand that everybody won't agree with me, and when I give you my opinion there is no need to get emotional. I haven't insulted anybody. Thank You [IMG]

Did you forget about David Wesley and Mike James?

I understand that Sura isn't fast enough to keep up with the faster guards, but would that really change anything at all if he stayed at point guard? In fact, many point guards are much faster than shooting guards. Examples here would be Jason Terry, Steve Nash, and so on. If anything, Sura is much more fit to play shooting guard because of his height and shoot first mentality.

    Edit-

Again, I'd like to stress that we can still sign other players and make trades to snag us a guard forward.

Its alright, you back up your ideas with reasons so no one should be offended unless you're imposing your idea on someone. [IMG]

I agree, but to be a shooting guard you have to be able to shoot. Not saying Sura can't shoot, but there are better shooters in F/A that can play SG. Sura's advantage at PG is strictly size, he averaged 6 rebs last year, for a PG that's GREAT! Wesley and James are both hot and cold. Personally, I don't expect Wesley to be back. He did a decent job last year, but his size is a major problem. James will probably be back, but I would definitley trade him for somebody better if it's there.

I was talking about a comment Dan Le made. I don't have a problem with anybody who disagrees with me.

There's plenty of shooting guards that can't shoot- Willie Green, Iguodala (although has improved), or Darius Miles are prime examples. Honestly, there aren't too much shooting guards in terms of good shooting out on the market. I could only find a few and even then, they were a bit iffy. Also, in his season with the Hawks, Sura I do believe was playing shooting guard, he still managed a couple triple doubles in his last few nights. I'm not too sure about this so take it for what its worth.
