<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Marko Jaric of the Los Angeles Clippers is the tallest guard on the Orlando Magic's short list of free-agent candidates. Jaric, 6 feet 7, can play both the point-guard and shooting-guard positions. He joins Chicago Bulls point guard Chris Duhon -- who visited the Magic earlier this week -- Miami Heat point guard Keyon Dooling, Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damon Stoudamire and Memphis Grizzlies point guard Earl Watson as candidates to sign with Orlando, according to NBA sources. The players all must wait a little longer to sign contracts no matter where they go. The Magic learned Wednesday that the date to sign free agents has been pushed back by the NBA. The green flag for all transactions -- the signing of free agents or the execution of sign-and-trade deals -- was to have been dropped Friday. But the league and its players' union still were working on the language of the new collective bargaining agreement agreed upon last month. The moratorium is likely to be extended to Aug. 1 or later.</div> Source I guess the Magic organization isn't comfortable with Jameer Nelson as the starter. Of all the players mentioned, I would want someone like Jaric or Damon Stoudemire since they wouldn't be long term answers and would just fill the position until Jameer is more experienced and ready to be our starter.
Nelson is more talented than duhon, I like duhon but nelson averaged more in every stat (except for assists) than duhon without sarting all year, and if you only compare games started jameer had more apg. Jaric is okay but i still don;t think either he or stoudamire are better at the opg position than nelson right now, it's just that people don't like leaving their team in the hands of a barely 6 foot guy coming from a small school, francis was no better than nelson when he came out, but he went to maryland so he got to prove himself right away.
I like Stoudamire better then anyone there. We got Deiner and Nelson why do we need another point guard?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting FlaBoy:</div><div class="quote_post">I like Stoudamire better then anyone there. We moved Steve Francis to the shooting guard positon so we can have Jameer starting at the point so why are we eager to grab one of these free agents? Sometimes I don't understand the moves the Magic make but I guess we just have to go with it and hope it comes out alright. It's not like anything we say or think is going make a difference since we aren't running the team. I just hope our front office knows what their doing and isn't just signing guys so it looks like we are having a busy offseason.
I would not say that we don?t need those guards. When I look at our roster, we currently have 4 guards. (Nelson, Diener, Francis, Stevenson). Well, nobody knows what happens to Christie, so we definitely need another guard or two. Because a starter and a backup is not enough at each position. The question is, which guard do we need. PG or SG, cause I don?t think, it?s so clear that we already moved Francis to SG. It?s the decision of the Coach, and when he was asked about that question he always said, it?s too early to say ? we will see when the training camp begins. I think we could need a SG more than a point guard. 1) When Francis stays at the PG position, it?s absolutely clear, that we need no further PG but another SG. A guy who can hit the 3 and play defense. 2) When Francis moves to SG ? well, it could work with Nelson and Diener at PG (sometimes Francis or Hill), but what if it doesn?t work? The two guys are still very young and not very tall. So we have to search for another PG, in case we get problems there. This doesn?t mean that Jameer will not start, he is definitely a great player, we just have more options at this position. I think out team will be very good next season (if we don?t have too much problems with injuries). Grant Hill will be as good or even better than last season. Dwight will be our so much needed low post scorer. And Coach Hill will hopefully improve our team defense. We still could need another very good shooter from the 3-point line beside Hedo. Jameer and Deshawn are good but not very good. We will make the playoffs if we stay healthy.
