<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Ronny Turiaf, the West Coast Conference player of the year at Gonzaga and a second-round pick of the Los Angeles Lakers, has an enlarged heart and will need open-heart surgery, possibly ending his career before it ever started in the NBA. Turiaf's agent, Bouna Ndiaye, confirmed to ESPN.com Thursday night that the condition was discovered during extensive medical testing in Los Angeles. Lakers spokesperson John Black said Turiaf would have open-heart surgery in 4-6 weeks. Black said Turiaf would meet with the media at 10 a.m. (PDT) Friday in Los Angeles. The Lakers selected the 6-10 Turiaf, who was originally from France, with the 37th pick overall in the June 28th draft. Los Angeles signed Turiaf to a two-year guaranteed contract on July 14. He played for the Lakers in a Summer Pro League and was averaging 14 points and 4.7 rebounds in 21.9 minutes a game. But Turiaf, 22, was held out of the final four games of the summer league.</div> Source (ESPN)
What a shame, he seemed like you could have fit in that roster as early as this year. I loved watching him at Gonzaga and hope, like all of us, that it isn't anything too tremendously serious, or at the very least, he makes it out of the surgery in good health.
Wow, this is no joke and is a big deal. I wish Ronny all the luck in the world and I hope he gets better soon. He has a bright future ahead and it would be a shame to see it all washed away in an instant because of this.
Terrible news, I wish him the best of luck in surgery. Hopefully he can come back if his health permits him it would be ashame to end his career before it really even starting.
This is just a shame. Turiaf is a good guy, a hard worker, a person who is respected in the community and an outstanding player. It is just terrible to see this happen to a good guy. I feel really bad for him and his family, and I really hope he has a successful surgery. Whether or not he comes back to playing is secondary; I hope he recovers from this ailment. If he plays again, it's a bonus. Best of luck to Turiaf, I hope he recovers from this heart problem and has a healthy rest of his life.
This is shocking, I don't know what to say. This is terrible news coming from one of the best college player last year. I hope his recovery goes well and he can some day return to the court.
get well soon ronny! by the way mel, they can't void his contract, they signed him already. they might do a buyout though
This is sad to hear and I can't even imagine what he feels inside about all this. I hope Ronny best of luck for his surgery and his future.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting drake:</div><div class="quote_post">Shiet to think that the Rockets were gonna get him! We would've been in deep doggy doo doo</div> The man is going to have open heart surgery and the only thing you can say is that you're glad your favorite team didn't draft him? Get a grip. Anyways, this is terrible news... one of the true good guys in basketball and a guy that was known for his heart, hustle, and determination around the basket. You can deny Ronny Turiaf's skills if you like but no one can question that he was as fierce of a competitor as they come. I just pray he'll get healthy and hopefully return to the league one day because I'm positive he will have success.
Wow...this is horrible news. He was a player I thought could step in right away and contribute. I wish him all the luck and I hope everything goes good for him.

The contract said that he had to pass the physical or else it's invalidated. As for Turiaf, best of luck to him, hope he can come bakc to LA by midseason.
All the best to him! wish him well and may the surgery will be done on the best side. the day will come when the mayor and turiaf will come back to play
