We Got Dooling & I Don't Like It We got Dooling apparently and for some reason I just don't like it. I'm afraid we wasted some money on getting a guy we won't use, i guess andre barrett who i thought was actually quite tallented and is an ba caliber backup won't be back and diener might not make the team, we'll see what happens. the new cba does not favor extra players it hinders them, before you culd have 15 players now you can only have 14, kinda sux.
I dont get the point of this move. Jameer Nelson clearly said hes ready to be the Magic's starting PG and now they bring in Keyon Dooling who they tol will have a guarenteed to start at PG. The Magic are in a limbo right now. Good team but they got issues at PG, Francis at SG wont work cause he cant shoot and is undersized.

And another thing, I'm sorry guy, you won't be able to compete with Jameer, he is hands down better than some pgs who are already pretty much guaranteed to start, i dono why he gets overlooked so much, does he have to get more than double figures every single game he starts and averagemore than 5 assists and 5 rebounds when starting to convince you he's for real? i guess he's just a wannabe like everybody in the league seems to think. I swear when it matters this guy will take any of the young new guys to school. Chris Paul is not much quicker and is in no way better, Jameer scooled him in college hell do it again, bassy telfair's not better, although i do like him, Ray Felton, chris duhon, shaun livingston . . . who else . . . umm derron williams. the only young pg i think might be better is kirk hinrich (spelling) and he played 2 for a bit. I'm not arguiing for the sake of arguing, i can't back up my words, only jameer can, but i'll bet he will.
If they brought him in to start over Jameer Nelson it was a bad move. If you wanted a starting point guard Daniels wanted to come here on a two-year deal. If they got him to back up Jameer it?s a great move in my mind. Though he is not the greatest talent in the world he is extremely athletic, and a instant spark off the bench. He will provide a high level of offense when the first unit leaves the floor. With him and Hedo in the second unit I really do not see any drop off in scoring ability in that unit right now we also have a pretty solid eight man rotation if that is the direction we choose to go. We will have Cato, Hedo, and Dooling off the bench. With players like Stevenson and Diener as well sow e have a pretty good bench now? I do not think Dooling is anything more than a solid back up he provides instant offense off the bench, but his defense is not great, nor is his size as a matter a fact. He is exciting him and Francis when they are on the court together should make some highlights on the break. If I were the Magic I would have signed Damon Stoudamire if size was not a huge issue. I guess we really could not expect to sign a big guard any more most of them were off the market besides for Jaric who is restricted.
Good lord you guys need to quit swinging on jameer nelsons nuts. You guys act like he is the magic savior. What did he prove by starting a PG last year. He is a decent player but not as good as you guys make him out to be. Dooling at 6ft3 is a little taller than jameer and will be able to gaurd most pg in the league. If jameer was the starting PG our backcourt would be too small to defend other backcourts in the league especially if francis is playing the 2. And besides the sentinel said that dooling was promised "a CHANCE to start". So what I am trying to say here is that if we had a taller 2 gaurd then I can see Jameer being a starting PG if he earned it over dooling.
I've said this way too many times. Jameer starting would have a much bigger effect of decline then it would help our team out. A bench of Hedo, Jameer, Dooling, and Cato/Battie/Vazquez(whichever one doesn't start obviously) would be very good. Start Francis at PG and Stevenson at SG. We have a better chance of winning in that setup then Jameer and Francis, IMO.
oh haha, this time i wasn't even arguing that he should start for our team, and the truth is as long as francis is on the team he probly shouldn't (even though i think francis is not significantly if at all better than jameer could become) I was just saying how much better i think he is than a lotta other players who ARE supposed to be team's saviors, no, for the future dwight is our man, Jameer is just his pg and assistant if you will, of the future. For whenever the team decides it's his time to step in that is. if he is a career backup though it will be a career nearly wasted imo.
I also think you don't need to keep too many people with fresh legs. having so many people you can alternate in and run forever is good, but eventually people are in for so short they can't get into a rhythm, and the tallent is slightly worse because lets face it, not everyone is great and some people on the floor will have to be sub par, so i feel you have to spread it around, this also makes me feel confident both barrett and diener probly won't be on the team. and i don't like that. I love andre barrett and i think diener's the kinda guy i would get to love.
I like the move. I think bringing in a pg that can play was baiscally what front office wanted. They want everyone on the team to compete for their jobs. Make them earn it in training camp and they will want it more during the season. I think after last season where we were injured a lot showed the lack our lack of a pg. When jameer went down late last season we were stuck. I think this move helps us change things up and makes us harder to guard. Last season we fell off considerably when our starters went out. Besides hedo and jameer we were short handed. I think with this move we have a much stronger bench with hedo, jameer, stevenson and kusan. This move makes us more athletic. As for the starting pg, who ever fits B. Hill's system best should start it shouldnt be dooling just cuz we signed him. If jameer beats him out then we have a quality back up with dooling. who can give us instant offense off the bench. I think we put to much emphasis on starting. Look at Ginobli 2 years ago, he was good enough to start, but Pop had him off the bench to provide that added spark. What good does it do to have a strong starting lineup if once they go out we lose considerable offensive power.
I don't like this move either but I agree with smokrockz, let Hill decide who's going to start and then decide whether this was a bad move or not. I'm really curious what Hill does with this team and how he's going to utilise our players.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Christopher Reina/RealGM - Sources have confirmed that Keyon Dooling has agreed to a contract with the Orlando Magic . RealGM and DraftExpress first reported the Magic had offered Dooling a contract on Wednesday. The offer was three years for $9 million. The Magic were forced to up their initial offer when the Nets were able to execute a sign-and-trade deal with the Blazers for Shareef Abdur-Rahim. Dooling will sign a four-year pact with the Magic worth between $11 million and $12 million.</div> Source
We talked about this a couple days ago and the RealGm source said that signing Dooling would allow the Magic to trade Francis to the Lakers for someone not named Odom. So if that is true, we would have Jameer start at PG and Dooling at SG? That would be a definite downgrade. Im really hoping the Magic dont trade Francis, because they most likely will not get equal value.
Trading Francis would be a very bad decision. Why cant Francis play SG? He can score off the ball and he doesnt have much handling skills since he led the league in TO's a good part of the season. His strength makes up for his height. Dooling isnt that good to even consider starting. He would be a backup PG or SG.

Everybody knows Francis is one of the better ball handlers in the league; it's just that he always overdribbles and that usually leads to a bad pass or getting the ball stolen. Francis should not play shooting guard in my opinion, he's a bad defender already at the point guard position. I think his strength is good against opposing point guards, but matching up against shooting guards is a completely different story and it could cause him trouble. Besides, if someone has a problem with his strength (although that's highly unlikely) Francis is only 6'3, and that just makes it easier for the typical 6'6, 6'7 shooting guards to shoot over him.

With Jameer Nelson, Keyon Dooling and Travis all capable of playing the point guard position, we might as well trade Francis for an actual shooting guard.
I was wondering why the Magic would sign him. I don't think he's going to be a starter at the end of the year, but he will start some games. He's a nice addition, but the Magic obviously already have Francis and Jameer there. The only way this really makes sense for the Magic or Dooling, is if management figues the whole Francis at the 2 guard spot does not work out, and they play on dealing him this summer. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Best Kept Secret:</div><div class="quote_post"> I do not think Dooling is anything more than a solid back up he provides instant offense off the bench, but his defense is not great, nor is his size as a matter a fact. .</div> I don't get it. You say his "but his defense is not great" like it's one of his weaknesses. He's an above average defensive PG and that's something the Magic and their fans should be excited about. His size isn't bad either. He's 6'3 and 200 pounds and pretty long which is good for a PG.
why dooling? why not daniels? daniels wanted to play for the magic, and apparently the magic needed a pointguard. if i were to choose, i'd pick daniels over dooling.
