<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The possibility of Dallas Mavericks veteran Michael Finley finishing his career playing for his hometown Bulls is no longer farfetched, thanks to an amnesty provision that will be part of the NBA's new six-year labor contract.

The provision allows money remaining on players' contracts to count against the salary cap but not against the luxury tax.

Teams with payrolls far over the anticipated salary cap -- such as the Mavericks, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers -- could save millions in the dollar-for-dollar penalty for money spent over the tax threshold.

The labor contract will become official Thursday.

When the deal becomes official, free agents can start signing contracts and teams can start eyeing talented, expensive veterans, whom teams will start releasing through the amnesty provision.

Finley, 32, is a prime candidate for "amnesty.'' The Mavericks would still pay him $51 million for the next three years, so money shouldn't be a huge issue.

If the Maywood native felt like coming home to a playoff team, the timing would seem to be perfect.

"If something were to happen to enable me to come home and finish my career with the Bulls, that would be nice,'' Finley has said. "I would have loved to have been a teammate of Michael Jordan. But that's always been something beyond my control.''

Finley, a 6-7 guard, is recuperating from surgery on his right ankle.

Bulls operations chief John Paxson can't comment on any player still under contract. But Finley would qualify under Paxson's policy for rebuilding the Bulls. </div>

Interesting speculation. It would be nice to get finley to the bulls because he would add size and scoring to the bulls. But his age concerns anyone. And the question would also be "does Pax want to cut the minutes of his newly found treasures.

    But a line up of

    Hinrich
    Finley
    Deng
    Chandler
    Curry

looks pretty appealing. But its all speculation, Honestly im leaning towards signing him, because it may hurt some individuals but i think it would be a positive for the team as a whole. Lets do it get the Fin-dog in a chicago jersey.

Hey man nice to see you posting on the forum again by the way I use to be Pure Skillz not sure if you remember me. Anyway I think if we brought in Finley we would make him into sort of a mentor he would still get his minutes, but it will not be the way they needed him in Dallas. I think he would start, but play the number of minutes that Duhon did last season in the end of things. I due hope we sign him, because although it would push back some of our young guys a little in the long run having a player of Finley?s knowledge and character can only help us. Also Skiles likes to use a small lineup so in that case we could use Deng at power forward Finley at small forward with Gordon and Hinrich in the backcourt. It could work, because although it is a small lineup they all play defense none of them are slacks.

yeah i was thinking the same thing you were. Another good thing about Fin being in the lineup is that in game winning situations it takes some pressure off of Ben. If He and Ben are in at the same time when we need a buzzer beater, it will be harder to double and tripple team Ben in those situations( since Finley can hit game winners also). The positives outway the negatives by far. And Finley has always been known to be a team player, he'd fit in well here.

I think as long as Finley isn't asking for too much money, he would be a great fit in chi-town. He could be a nice leader for the youngsters. And not to mention, this guy can still play very well. I think it would be a good signing.

I would actually hate to see that. I would much rather have been Gordon come off the bench with Finley starting at the two if he did come here. If we were to put him at small forward it would throw Nocioni back to the third option at that position with Basden becoming the fourth option. With Gordon coming off the bench and Finley starting at the two that gives us two solid players at shooting guard and two solid players at small forward so everyone gets their minutes. Then we can put Hinrich back at the point with Duhon.
