All these guards, I don't understand your guys' logic. Why would anyone NOT pick Tim Duncan? Picking Amare I can understand, but no disrespect to these guards like Lebron, Wade, etc, but in the history of the NBA, there has been ONE championship Dynasty that was built around a guard. On that note, I haven't seen anyone that's close to being the next MJ yet. Lebron's close, but the game's different today and he's not as dominant as MJ was. I could be wrong and he may actually be as dominant as MJ, but come on, Tim Duncan??? That's as safe of a choice as it could be. TD > Shaq. Reasons? Look at my post above.
Whoever would pick any of these cats over Lebron should get their head checked. Especially if you picked that corny tim duncan.

Especially if you picked that corny tim duncan.</div> Great quality post The corny Tim Duncan. So you wouldn't pick the best player in the NBA just because he isn't gangstaaa or black enough for you? I'm not sure what this thread is asking... if you want to build to get championships right now, or to build to become a contending team for years to come and the future. So there are 2 scenarios. For the present, I would pick Tim Duncan. Why? Because he wins, plain and simple. For the future, (where age is a concern) I would pick Lebron James. He sells tickets, he has LOADS of potential, he could very well become the most dominant in the league in a couple of years, and he almost single handedly carried his team to the playoffs this year. There is too much to be said about this manchild. As for Amare, we have yet to see how well he will do without a great PG next to him. He suffered while Nash was out, his numbers dipping low. And when Marbury was in, he wasn't as dominant as he was this year with a REAL point guard. Lebron is already proven in all aspects, has youth, can takeover games, has star power, is influential, he's the total package.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting da pimp 1:</div><div class="quote_post">Unless that guard is LeBron or a young Nash or Kidd, i would build my team around a guard. But my pick is Amare.</div> Young Steve Nash is not the guy we saw last season. Experience and appreciation for your teammates made him what he was. I don't know if I'd change a thing.

Honestly, we still don't know if Lebron's the best player out his Rookie class, let alone THE WHOLE LEAGUE. He's a great talent, but when the games on the line, lacks the KILLER INSTINCT that ALL the best franchise players like Kobe, Wade, Tmac, Iverson, Shaq, Garnett, all have. Am I saying that he's not a franchise player? No, because he is one. But he ain't nearly as GREAT as little kids make him out to be.

If you want a short term answer, then Duncan or Shaq would probably be the first choice hands down. However, myself, I would pick Dwight Howard simply because he is already a pretty good defender, averaged a double double and scored 12 PPG despite shooting on average only 8 times a game. Most important thing however is that he is only 19 and still has TONS of potentiol. He had one of the best rookie seasons ever by a high schooler.

They know because they've been burned by LeBron in the clutch.
it matters the way you look at it. If your looking to win a ring in the next 2-3 years obvious pick is duncan and maybe shaq cause they have both proved they can make it to the finals duncans been there 3 times(won all three) shaqs been there 5 times(won 3). If your looking to win one in the next 5-10 years LEBRON or AMARE. i mean there both in there early 20's and there all nba players aleady. and even though lebron hasnt made it to the post season yet its bound to happen. and amare is just so dam dominant

He made a great shot to send the game into overtime, but in OT they ended up getting beat by like 9 points.

LeBron doesnt lack that killer instinct in the clutch, but i also get tired of people saying that he is the next jordan. As of now i dont see a player that could be the next Jordan. The closest guys are him, kobe and Tmac. Jordan not only had a killer instinct in the clutch but the whole game which is the thing that seperates Jordan from them.
LeBron's game doesn't even resemble Jordans that much. I see him more as a Magic Johnson/Oscar Robertson type player. I believe one day LeBron will average a triple double in a season.
T-Mac doesn't even play like Jordan, or have that many similarities in their playing style... not sure if many labeled him as the next jordan, since he's about 6'9 to 6'10 and more of a SF than a SG. Your just saying that because he's a swingman, he's a superstar and has good numbers.

Kobe is really the only that is similar to jordan as far as how he plays.

I mean, they're style of play is actually very similar. Tmac is like a Scottie Pippen UPGRADE but no Jordan.
d-wade got into the 2nd round with indiana last year and they did well and he had lamar odom thats all...wow so much help...d-wade is better than lebron...lebron has had illgusges (however u spell that) hes equal to lamar odom..so dont say lebron is the greatest in his class cuz he isnt...duncan will kill lebron for a couple more years..hes a respectful and unselfish player...if u put ginobli and wade together they will kill everyone if u give them some 3 point shooters cuz u cant let them drive or theyll score easily
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Terminator-X:</div><div class="quote_post">good luck.......enjoy the looooooooooong wait</div> I never said he was going to do it anytime soon. Maybe in 5-7 years when he's in his prime. To be 21 years old and average 27/7/7 is quite a feet. And in IMO, I believe with his great work ethic and determination, he will do it.
