Forget about money and saleries and all that, but who do you guys would be the best free agent for the Sixers? I`m still up in the air about some players but I wanna see what you guys think, hopefully it gives me some thought-change.
I'd like Jaric a big PG that could backup AI, or Steven Hunter which would give us a lil more size and athleticism.

PS: what happened to your avatar??
Tyson Chandler, no contest. The guy can play both powerforward and center. But most importantly, he is a beast on boards which is really what we need when Webber goes out to the high post to take jumpers. On top of that, Chandler's still young- only twenty three years old meaning he would fit perfectly in our nucleus of Green, Dalembert, Korver, and Iguodala. Plus, the combination of Dalembert and Chandler, both very athletic centers, would be lethal in the league, allowing Philadelphia to become one of the fastest teams in the league.

Steven Hunter should be number one, followed by Reggie Evans. Jaric would be nice but I think Billy King should go after someone in the front court rather then get someone in the backcourt. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">isnt chandler a small forward??? i always thought he should be a center because of his height, but nba 2k5 listed him as a small forward. but then again, that's just a game.</div> I wouldn't put too much stock into what a video game says. Tyson is 7'1" and has been playing a lot of the post for the Bulls this past season but I would say he would ask for too much and would probably re-sign with the Bulls.

Chandler is good, and awful promising, but if you want a beast on that boards, do what phiLA said and go for Evans. Also, Redd already re-upped, so that's a no-go. (To phiLA) And your idea of making the 6'ers more athletic is a good one in theory, but you need the coaching staff to run the show. Mo Cheeks is a fine coach, don't get me wrong, but he hasn't run a significant running game in the NBA yet, and that's a project than can take a couple years and a really good point guard. Neither of which Cheeks has as his disposal. The guy played on maybe one or two lineups in his playing days that liked to run for God's sake, so I don't see this being a priority for him. But you're right, it's a good idea. Sadly, not this year. But they have enough on-the-ball scoring to make the playoffs without running, so that's a plus.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Umm, I'm not sold. Tyson is a great rebounder too, I mean he's ranked third behind Evans and Gadzuric for rebounds per forty eight minutes. He is a beast, point blank. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention he can block the ball really well too. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> And your idea of making the 6'ers more athletic is a good one in theory, but you need the coaching staff to run the show. He's shown that he can distribute the ball well enough (his turnovers can be fixed by Cheeks) to create a fluent offense for Philadelphia. The Sixers were already pretty much using a fast running game already last season under Jim O'Brien (the dubbed "run and gun" style). Although it didn't quite work out the way it should have, adding Chandler would be a big step forward for them. Think about it, we have all the young guys needed to run a fast paced game that can be worked out in a couple years like you said. Iguodala, Green, Korver, Dalembert, and if Philadelphia "signed" Chandler, that is one pretty strong lineup. But, its not the running game Philadelphia needs to work on. Their half court sets last year sucked.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting AznxBaller:</div><div class="quote_post">The Sixers were already pretty much using a fast running game already last season under Jim O'Brien (the dubbed "run and gun" style). </div> That's my point. Jim O'Brien is a veteran with the run and gun and he has turned runners and gunners into relatively successful teams. But Cheeks hasn't. Granted, Cheeks will probably be able to cut down on AI's TO's, but that doesn't mean they'll be a running team. I think it would be a great thing for them, but it's clear that management is taking the team in another direction. Cheeks knows nothing of the run and gun, and that's not to say he can't learn, but NBA coaches are notorious for their inflexibility, and Cheeks is no exception, that's why he doesn't coach in Portland anymore. The 6er's brass appears to be thinking very much in the present, as Cheeks is pretty adept with a the half court set, and they clearly brought him in to improve that. The half court set is the preferred scoring method of the day, while the run and gun is still a few years away from making its resurgence. Cheeks can make a downright bad half court offense with the right pieces into a scoring machine, point blank, but you can't fit the round peg that is running into the square hole that is Cheeks' philosophy. The two don't mix. But that doesn't mean Chandler isn't a good signing, I think he would add a dimension to their offense that any coach would like to have. And his post up is far more refined and thusly makes him a solid back-to-the-basket player, a good thing to have playing any number of roles in an offense. So, I guess I must concede the point, Chandler would be a good fit. Having done more reading, I see that Hunter would work out well too, but I'm with you in regards to Chandler. Unfortunately, he'll probably stay put.
Philly can win with defense and great coaching. Solid young players from top college programs that emphasized defense, dedication to the team and a determination to improve an aspect of their game every year, surrounding at least one and hopefully two elite scorers will carry this team to a very repectable winning record and a good run in the playoffs. Take that formula and what pieces are needed? Superior conditioning, the best coaching staff possible, Iverson and another 50 % shooter, and 8 to 10 6'6 to 6'10" young men who are ready to run and beat the other team to the basket every time, box out and who do not foul their defensive assignment. I have come to believe that a team that can put two great players and scorers on the court surrounded by 10 athletes determined to shut the other team down backed by a coaching staff that knows the game, the players and how to take advantage of every opportunity can win consistently in this league. I think Dallas showed that last year even after giving up the MVP. Certainly Detroit was an example and the Spurs excelled at it.

players who are good cheap pickups are MICHAEL OLOWAKANDI and STEVE BLAKE...both servicable backups who can log decent minutes when required
