I know Finley's up on the trading block for Dallas to save Dallas money and I've heard most recently that he might be traded to Orlando. But who will Orlando trade to get him and where will Finley play in Orlando's lineup.Finley can play Shooting Guard or Small Forward but Grant Hill and Hedo Turkoglu play Small Forward and I believe Steve Francis will play Shooting Guard but they can't move Francis down to Point Guard because Jameer and Dooling have that spot covered so that only means Francis or Finley will be coming off the bench. I think it'll be like this: SF-G.Hill/Turkoglu/Finley SG-Francis/Finley PG-Dooling/Nelson I'm still not sure who Orlando will be sending to Dallas if they desire to acquire Finley's services???
I was also wondering where he would play. I guess we would send Christie, Battie, Augmon, and Kusan in some form of a combination. The article made it seem that we had the financial pieces to make it work. I think if we were to pull it off it would greatly increase our chances of moving up in the east. This will give grant some much needed rest and would make our bench one of the best in the league. Lets see what happens.
^Which article are you refering to? I haven't come across any article suggesting a trade with Dallas which brings in Finley, I thought they are just going to waive him and thus saving about 50 Million of luxury tax. However, I would love if we can get ride of Christie in this way but wouldn't like to depart from Battie and Kasun, we need those as backups at PF/C and I see Kasun becoming a serviceable C backup.
First off, if we were to acquire Michael Finley we would move Steve Francis back to point guard. The only reason we had him at shooting guard was because we didn't have a good shooting guard. Then we would have Jameer Nelson, Steve Francis, Travis Diener and Keyon Dooling all at the point guard position. We would probably end up trading one of those guys in the Finley deal to make some room on our roster for some other positions. I wouldn't mind trading for Finley because he is good player who can still score 15 points each night and I have always liked his game. Here is another thread about Michael Finley coming to Orlando: http://www.justbball.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40440
Here is the article. I'm liking this a lot. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Ft. Worth Star-Telegram - The Dallas Mavericks plan to wait it on whether to use the "amnesty" clause on swingman Michael Finley. However, the Mavericks would prefer to trade Finley to an Eastern Conference team and might have one offer already. The Mavs have at least one deal on the table for Finley, possibly with Orlando, that satisfies Mark Cuban's requirement of receiving expiring contracts in return. The Mavs will continue to pursue a trade and could easily wait until the eve of training camp before deciding Finley's fate. Players rumored to be involved in the possible deal include Doug Christie, Tony Battie, Stacey Augmon and Mario Kasun. The Mavericks though are expected to wait it out to see if they can get a better offer.</div> Source Christie, Augmon and Kasun will be easy to get rid of and we still have Cato so we won't need Battie that much. PG- Steve Francis SG- Michael Finley SF- Grant Hill PF- Fran Vazquez C- Dwight Howard PLAYOFFS HERE WE COME!
With Battie and Kasun gone we would be damn thin at our frontcourt which is why I wouldn't like this deal. Besides, Finley is just making too much money, 50 Million over three years for a 15ppg type of man, who would also take away shots from Dwight. I would say no.

If Finley came we would definietly be a playoff team. The only thing that bothers me is how much money he would cost us.
Franface isn't playing for us apparently, but Finley would be a solid veteran presence who can still be a go to guy. The Magic had trouble scoring a lot last year after we traded Mobley and Hill got injured. Finley can still play, and like others said a 15 ppg man, and we'd get ride of Christie! I'd like to see it happen.
Is Finley starting material? Hes getting there in age and injuries do come with that. Also having him on the bench as a back-up Sg would still take the ball out of Francis' hands. We should trade Augmen, Dougy two players who play def, and vets that expire. Line-up: PG: Dooling,Nelson,Deiner Sg: Francis,Finley,Stevenson Sf: Hill,Turk,Stevenson or Finley Pf: Howard,Vasquez,PG C: Kato,Battie,Kusun

I hope we can get him, it kinda sucks cuz it will take shots away from dwight. But I think dwight can be effective either way. Dallas was able to get shots for everyone with finely, dirk, terry, and stackhouse. Dwight will get his touches but the pure offensive capabilities we would have would be amazing. We would easily be top 5 in the east. I think it helps that we get rid of christie. Something for nothing. Finely has played in big games and can help our young team. Just to have a solid veteran that has been a winner would bring a better attitude to the locker room. Im all in favor for this.
I have no idea what to do right now. I think this whole situation depends on Fran Vazquez. If he stays with us and doesn't sign with Real Madrid I think we should do this trade. If Fran leaves, we will lose both Tony Battie and Mario Kasun which leaves us with only Dwight Howard, Kelvin Cato, Pat Garrity and Marcin Gortat as our big men. I think we need to wait and see how the entire Fran situation works out before we pullthe trigger on this deal.
First of all, dallas said for the deal to work out the magic would have to at least send 1 usable player. But we can't afford to send both battie and kasun. In response to the guy who said we have CATO?!?!? Did you see how much he got hurt plus he got surgery during the offseason so there is no telling how well he will be, so who will back him up? we already are planning to not resign declerq. If we want finley, we should do this. Either package augmon, with diener and battie/kasun, but def not both. Diener wont have a chance to make the roster with finley, francis, dooling and nelson at the guard possitions. Lineup: G- Dooling, Nelson, Stevenson SG - Francis, Finley, stevenson sf - hill, turk, pf - fran, garrity c - dwight howard, battie/kasun we should also pursue a veteran big man with the veterans min. because i dont believe that fran will play this year, figures. Or we can sign the rookie from vegas that played well, forgot his name. Thoughts?
Orlando Management declined the deal: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Smith shot down a rumor out of Dallas that the Magic might trade several players with expiring contracts for veteran shooting guard Michael Finley. Smith confirmed Mavericks' president Donn Nelson approached him about the trade, but the Magic quickly turned it down because Finley is still owed $51.8 million over the next three years.</div> Source
