At his age, there was no reason to sign him to such a long contract. At the time people thought that his signing would bring us to the finals. But even if he had managed to do that, do you think he would have been any use to us for two more years? The problem with his contract was not them money, but the length. It was a risk to sign him and it should've been obvious that giving a player past his prime, and who had well documented injury problems, a 3 year deal was most likely going to backfire. If we had signed him to a one or two year deal, we wouldn't even be talking about his contract.

What's he going to say, no, no, give me less years and less money because my body might not be able to hold up. As if anyone in their right mind would actually say that.</div> I know it sounds absurd for players to just refuse money like that, but I believe that if you choose to sign the contract, then it's your responsibility to live up to it. It's sort of like me paying some guy lots of money to fix the roof of my house and then he ends up not finishing the job or he does it half-assed. It would be my fault for giving him the money (assuming I knew he wasn't 100% reliable) and it would also be his fault for accepting the job knowing full well that he couldn't get the job done. I can't hate on Hakeem for taking the money b/c I know most ppl would do the same thing if they were in his shoes, but at the same time, you can't say he was completely innocent for his actions in Toronto. The fact that he just took his money and left the organization hanging (w/o really contacting anyone or fulfilling some of his other planned events) is proof that he was filled w/ guilt b/c he knew he had let the organization down.

If Atlanta offered Milt 70 million over 5 years, Milt would take the offer and and fulfil his destiny as the greatest of all time and lead the Hawks to 5 back to back rings. Too bad Milt just came short of ring this year *sniffle* Milts destiny in the nba is just yet to unfold.

The length was the only problem, but it's not like it was extremely ridiculous, but he was 38 years old when we signed him, that's what makes anything more than 1-2 years kind stupid. The best offer would've been something like 2 years with a TO on the 2nd year, though that's hard to get, not many people/agents like having Team Options on their contract.

How long left until Hakeem stops getting free checks from the Raptors? Jesus...I bet coming to Toronto was the best decision of his life.
I think he has stopped getting free checks from the Raptors already. Not quite sure though. It could have been the best decision of his life financially, but I really wonder if it's eating away at him on the inside... highly doubt that though.
