According to the Houston Chronicle, the Rockets have agreed to resign Ryan Bowen to 2 years contract. Although I was thinking he was the least likely among the Rockets' free agents to be resigned, it was a surprise move by CD. JVG and CD still wants his hustles and defensive game. I just hope he would work out on his offensive game so he can be a good quality role player for the Rockets.
The Rockets will preserve him on the bench until they face Dirk Nowitzkl... then they will unleash the beast.

Don't like it. We still have more important FA's we have yet to sign. Jon Barry, Mutumbo, and Padgett are all more important than Bowen.

Its not like Houston isn't negotiating with the other guys while he's resigning Bowen. They probably want to get this out of the way first. I have a feeling that Mutumbo is definitely staying, but the other two are up in the air.
Bowen is a scrub! I like his heart, but c'mon. There are players in the summer league that can contribute more than Bowen. I know he played decent in the playoffs, but eventually we put Tmac on Dirk because he was beginning to abuse Bowen. Plus Bowen's offense is well, uuum, something like, crap he ain't got no damn offense. If we plan to have Bowen as Tmac's back up next year, then we're in trouble. I take it he'll be used for garbage minutes, but who knows........

Plus, its not like we're signing him to some big and expensive contract. Sure, we were starting to put McGrady on Dirk, but look what happened. McGrady started to lose energy in the latter stages of games which Dallas started to take advantage of. Ryan Bowen is one of those types of guys that are simply brought into the game for defense- nothing else. He doesn't need too much of an offensive game because he limits or stops his opposition from scoring. But really, I see Bowen strictly used for garbage minutes, Van Gundy isn't a guy to play him for more than ten minutes a game.
Hes probably not making much more than the minimum, I dont know why you guys are getting so upset. Now all we really have to sign is John Barry and Dikembe, and maybe we can make a run at Finley.
D'oh... why didn't the Rockets resign Mutombo or Barry before Bowen? They were much more efficient than Bowen.. who had a few good games against Dirk...
Decent signing...I like Bowen's intensity and defense, and I like his shot too...he has a little range on his jumper...I think the Rockets signed him before Deke or JB because he wasnt asking for much, and he wont be too major of a factor in the rotation...but I do think Deke and JB will be returning...
I only think Deke is returning. I think JB would be very handy to have, but we can survive without him.
That's TERRIBLE. 3 key FA's (Barry, Mutumbo, and Padgett) and we might only get 1 back. That's not good. Contrary to popular belief, losing Barry might be the worst move of the offseason. Barry and Padgett were our best shooters. As the current roster stands, we have NO 3pt shooting. It's a shame, I would of thought that signing those two would have been the first priority, but I guess Van Gundy see's something in Bowen that we don't see.
I like Bowens game and his hustle and it isn't a bad signing, but I would've really loved to get Padgett back (been watching him since his Kentucky days).....I think Deke and Barry are both very vital to this team and we need both of them back.

Don't overreact here. Wesley, Sura, James, McGrady, and Head can all shoot the three pointer. Its not that Van Gundy thinks Bowen is the first priority, its more of the reason that Bowen's contract is easier to negotiate for since he won't be demanding much and they're probably just trying to get it out of the way.

Sura is a very poor 3pt shooter, Wesley and James are streak shooter, and Head is a rookie, nuff said. It's actually a big deal, we already lost one of our 3pt specialist, Padgett. If Barry gets away then we'll be in a deep hole. Teams will be able to triple team Tmac and Yao, and now we don't have anybody that we'll make them pay consistently. You mean out of all the key role players that played so great for us last year the first player you sign back to the team is Ryan Bowen?? All the while we're losing more important players that are more valuable. Signing Mutumbo and Barry is going to be CRUCIAL. Don't know bout ya'll, but I'll be sick if Wesley comes back. I don't hate him, but his height is too much of a liability. All the teams in our division are LOADED and improving, right now I'm afraid we don't have enough firepower. Memphis looks like they're the CLEAR winners of the offseason.

In the playoffs, he shot .538- please don't call him a bad three point shooter. Barry was also a streak shooter, on some nights he would light you up while on others, he would make one out of five. Wesley and James shoot .383 and .386 respectively. Whoever said rookies can't shoot three's? Ben Gordon is spectacular from the arc and supposedly Head is pretty good at it as well. Padgett didn't play that much minutes for us anyway and nor was he given consistent minutes by Van Gundy. Some nights he'd get twenty while others he would get one. He just never had that big a spot on the rotation so I really don't think he will be missed. Plus, he's a bad defender- undersized for the four and too slow for the three. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">You mean out of all the key role players that played so great for us last year the first player you sign back to the team is Ryan Bowen?? It probably just so happens that him and Bowen were able to get a deal done faster than the other two. I agree with you- resigning Mutumbo and Barry are going to be pretty important. Grizzlies might be the winner of the division this offseason, but you can't say how they'll fair during the season. Remember, some players gel and some don't. Houston was a better team than them last year and didn't really need that much improvement other than getting a point and powerforward.
Ryan Bowen At first I wasnt too happy with the move but now i kinda like it. yes, its true has hath no offense but Van Gundy has to love his hustle and defense against Nowitzki (he annoys me that nazi) ...anyway i sure do hope we sign deke padgett and barry cause u gotta love them
