Well, as far as LeBron, Wade, Melo, and Bosh go, I don't think those guys will leave. There respective teams will probably max them out (LeBron and Wade) or very close to the max (Melo and Bosh).

Ok....first things first: Some answer the question about a pg. How much $$$do we have? MLE or can we offer more? Who can we go after? Second- How much could we throw at LeBron? How would Kobe feel about that one? Your forgetting that Amare Stoudemire and Yao Ming will be FA's.

Ways the Lakers can land a PG...

MLE - All or part of it
    LLE - About $1.7Million

Expiring Contract - Vlade Divac, Slava Medvedenko, Devean George
Cheap, Young Talent - Sasha Vujacic, Luke Walton, Brian Cook, Von Wafer
Summer League Hopefuls - Smush Parker, Will Conroy

There's probably a 1% chance the Lakers can land LeBron, Amare, or Yao in 2007. Their respective teams have already cleared out cap space to max these players out, and the new CBA would cost them $20Million to leave and sign with another team. However, sign & trade is always a possibility, but highly unlikely.

Other targets in 2007 could include Dirk Nowitzki or Paul Pierce, because both have the option to opted out of their current contract. There's a thread already on Paul Pierce and plenty of news surrounding his rift in Boston, so I won't get into that.

Dirk Nowitzki however, is a strong canidate for the Lakers to target. He's currently the centerpiece for the Mavs, but he has to be frustrated with the way the core of the team is being dismantled. Last year the Mavs didn't re-sign his best friend, Steve Nash, because they didn't want to pay his price. This year there is a strong possibility Michael Finley will be waived. If this happens and the Mavs get bounced again in the playoffs, it could get interesting.

One rumor during the Shaq trades, was the Lakers trying to acquire Dirk Nowitzki and fillers for Shaq. Not sure if there is a lot of truth in this rumor, but Dirk would be a great compliment to Kobe. They could run the pick and roll all day to perfection. Dirk Nowitzki has the skillset to thrive in the Triangle as well because of his ability to score from anywhere on the court. Adding him alongside Kobe, Odom, and Kwame puts the Lakers right back into Championship consideration. Just look at the potential roster and all the flexibility it has.

    PG - <Insert Name>
    SG - Kobe Bryant
    SF - Lamar Odom
    PF - Dirk Nowitzki
    C - Kwame Brown

I'm sure the question will come up, "but the Mavs won't just let Dirk Nowitzki leave for nothing." However, if Dirk opts out then yes he can actually leave for nothing, because he will be unrestricted (similar to Cuttino Mobley this year opting out of his Kings contract.) If your Dirk Nowitzki you really don't have much of a decision to make in choosing to play with Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom or Erick Dampier and Josh Howard.

nowitzki would be a great fit but i think the mavs would want odom in the deal.maybe odom, george and a pick or something.just thinking that if we had kb8 and nowitzki and a good point guard, there wouldnt be much of a need for a more than decent small foward.have someone like luke walton at SF then try get a better one the next season.
