The rockets have reported a few times that they will look at these guys and now that stoudamire is gone, they should pursue them. I think that payton could take the 1.8 million. He could fill in the 1 for us as a good defender and he is the glove so good ball spreading. Spreewel would bring that 3rd scoring option we need, defense, and good shooting from the arc. Finley is a good scorer, and a waste of a lot of money, so i don t really want him. There might be attitude problems, but who doesnt have one. We could also look at Jay williams, but i dont know how much he can contribute to us.
as memphis' PG position is fully packed with the arrival of stoudamire and bobby jackson, do we have a chance to get earl watson or probably jason williams?
well out of the 3, I'd honestly take Finley over both Payton and Spree.........IMO Payton is a slight upgrade over Bob Sura and he can't shoot that well, plus the opposing PG's in the west would probably kill him on a nightly basis.........Spree could probably still be an effective player, but dude can be a cancer in the locker room and I don't if that's what we really need.....Finley is long and can shoot, so if it came down to those 3, he would be our best bet.
Payton was lit up by Tony Parker in the 2004 playoffs, and I believe that both Parker, Jason Terry and probably Chris Paul could all outplay him on a regular basis. I don't think that he, at this age, can be much more of a contributor than Sura. Finley still has some fuel left in his tank and can give us leadership and 13-18 points per game. His addition would also mean a big starting lineup of Sura, Finley, McGrady, Swift and Yao, 6-5, 6-7, 6-8, 6-11, and 7-6 respectively in height. However. if Finley is out to win a championship, he might find teams that look even more promising than us. I don't know if anyone else would concur, but I won't object if we brought Jim Jackson back. He can still give us a good 11 points per game and play some tough defense. Wesley coming off the bench for Jackson would be a great idea, as both can shut down the opposing PGs. Adding Jackson back to the starting lineup can also bring McGrady back to shooting guard, creating mismatches.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Finley is a good scorer, and a waste of a lot of money, so i don t really want him.</div> Well actually, he might not be demanding that much money. If Dallas goes through with the Allan Houston clause (meaning they buy out his contract to relieve luxury tax), Finley would still be getting a bunch of money from Dallas (like Mutumbo) so he might not demand that much money. Finley just might want to play for a championship contender team like us, Phoenix, or even go back to Dallas. I don't really want Sprewell here, he's obviously going to demand a lot of money or possibly might disrupt a lot of the team chemistry on this team. Payton on the other hand, I don't really mind- he's a good playmaker, is a decent three point shooter, but really a good defender. I'd take Finley out of those three.
how bout signing antoine walker and playing him as a SF. C :Yao Ming/7'5 Pf:Swift whos 6'9 by the way Sf:Walker/6'9 Sg:T-Mac/6'8 Pg:Sura/6'5
Of all the players mentioned I would go after Michael Finley. He can still put up 15 points per game and would compliment Tracy McGrady well at the shooting guard position. Gary Payton is too old and is a selfish point guard and Latrell Sprewell wants a lot of money and is also very selfish. Finley would be your best bet on and off the court.
Finley cant re-sign with dallas yet. He would have to wait till his new deal is up. On another note I am kind of sad that we didnt snag Damon but o well. This guy is old and has millions in the bank and still doesnt want a chance to win a title? Look what Stromile did he could have taken a team to the bank if he held out till the deadline but he used his brain instead of his wallet to make the right choice. In the end I hope we get a point with at least some youth left in him because the team to beat is San Antonio and Parker is a handful. I used to live in that city for 2 years and believe me guys when mcgrady got them with 13pts in 35 sec it really stung them over there. I think the rockets will pull something off. Les Alexander wants to win and CD is cunning enough to pull off some deals so I feel that the Rockets are in good hands
I'd take Finley over Sprewell and Payton too. Spre and Payton are way old and have attitude problems compared to Finley. Honestly, if Sura is healthy, I don't think we need to sign a PG. But then again, he's been injury ridden all his life so its better to be sure I guess. Hmm are you sure it would be wise to get JJ again? Didn't we start winning after we traded him?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Shadeslayer:</div><div class="quote_post">BTW, have the Rockets signed Swift yet?</div> they have agreed on a deal with him. FA's may not be signed till Tuesday.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting eyes only:</div><div class="quote_post">how bout signing antoine walker and playing him as a SF. C :Yao Ming/7'5 Pf:Swift whos 6'9 by the way Sf:Walker/6'9 Sg:T-Mac/6'8 Pg:Sura/6'5</div> Wow the Rockets could then hold the record for slowest team up the court...
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I don't know if anyone else would concur, but I won't object if we brought Jim Jackson back.</div> JJ is a great player but I dont know how interested he will be in coming here... after all he didnt take us trading him all too well.
Breaking News! Damon Stoudamire HAS NOT accepted the offer with Memphis yet and he still interested in playing for the Rockets but wants a sign-and-trade deal with Portland but Portland aren't agreeing with anything! Source - http://www.clutchfans.net/news.cfm?NewsID=1243
Definitely Finley of the three. Payton and Spree will demand the ball more and have attitude problems. Finley is a better shooter than either and much more willing to play team ball. Not to mention Spree and GP will want a nice salary, Finley could sign for the vets minimum or LLE because he is already making a ton from his Dallas contract. Finley may also want to play here more because he can be a starter on a contending team and still play very close to his home.
I dont think payton wants a real nice salary. His money days are over and now the 1.7 exception should be good enough for him. With joe johnson gone, the suns have the better chance of picking up finley. Spreewel will onlly come to us in sign and trade. Unlike us, he cant feed a family with 1.7 million dollars. I would go for Payton. We really need a true point gaurd.

Even though Payton is older, he's still a little more effective than Sura. Also he's more durable than Sura is. As far as Finley, he would be perfect, but I think Dallas is starting to change they're mind on just letting him walk free. If they trade him, it'll definitley be out of the conference. I think resigning Jim Jackson would be beautiful. The only thing he's still bitter about being traded, and probably won't comeback after bad mouthing the organization. I know it's probably a big risk, but if the Knicks let Allan Houston go, he might a good last resort. We need a SG badly
Yeah Allan Houston would be good ONLY as a last resort. He could come in at the right time and hit clutch shots, but nothing else. If there is no one to sign, then we can take Houston, but I also think we need a guard who can slide over to SF when T-Mac takes a rest. Allan Houston isn't much of a forward.
I hate them all...im just confused why damon if he wants to come to houston so bad cant take 1.8 million the only reasons why JVG is even remotley intersted in him is his quickness against someone like nash or parker im just praying luther head could turn into one of thoughs shut down defenders and if he can i like the backcourt we have now.
