<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Matt Bonner expects to have a contract offer in hand the day the NBA lifts its free agent-signing moratorium but there is little or no chance it will come from the Raptors.

The restricted free agent and the team remain far apart in the financial terms of a new contract and it's apparent it will take an offer from a third team to put pressure on the Raptors to match it or let the popular, if limited, forward go.

Bonner's agent told the Star last week he had three teams interested in his 25-year-old client and Bonner said last night he thinks he'll get some offer right away.

"There might be more, there's been some interest in the last few days," he said before playing in the Steve Nash Charity Classic at the ACC last night.

Bonner and his agent are dismayed at the pace of talks with the Raptors, which have bogged down over money.

"We're trying to negotiate and it hasn't been reciprocated yet," he said.</div>

I think it's more in terms of the length of the contract that both parties aren't agreeing on, rather than the actual amount of salary per year. Bonner's agent wants a deal that lasts at least 4-years with a team option for the fifth and Babcock prefers to sign him to a 2-year contract.

As popular as Bonner is with the Raptor fans, I see why Babcock wouldn't want to give him anything longer than a 2-year deal. With Charlie Villanueva on board and Uros Slokar possibly joining the roster in 2006 or 2007, there wouldn't be any room for Bonner.

I read it in the paper... although I'm saddedened by this, because I loved Matt Bonner. CV3 will be a more than adaquet replacement for Bonner, and not signing Bonner just solidifies the decision to draft Villanueva in this year's draft. Or we'd have no backup 4... except... uh, A-will.

Talking about CV.. he even has an opposite lettered initial compared to Vince Carter's VC. Let's hope that he has exactly the opposite attitude on top of that. [IMG]

that kind of sucks. i had a feeling this might happen because of his breakout year...i thought that there would be problems come contract time

Its unfortunate that we drafted a quality PF, because Bonner was the perfect off the bench PF.

I hope Graham can play some at SG, because then we can play Bonner as a back-up SF/PF and give him decent minutes.

PG: Rafer/Calderon/ - once Ukic arrives will be solid
SG: Mo Pete/ Graham - maybe draft someone next year at this position.
    SF: Villeneuva/Bonner
    PF: Bosh/Bonner
C: Pape/Hoffa - still a hole, we need Magloire [IMG]

Bonner is a good player. I just dont like him very much because his style of play is very stiff. althrough he gets his points and does the job.

i guess they can resign him, he aint bad, but he will never get anywhere

I think it would be wonderful if would could land Zaza Pachulia. He is more of a PF/C and I think we need help at center. [IMG] The guy is only 21 as well, so he could have a future with us.

Hopefully the Bucks wouldn't match our offer, because they have Gadzuric and Bogut signed down

Zaza? You're asking for trouble if you put Araujo and Pachulia on the same team. It'll be a one heck of a fight to watch though.

Bonner is a crowd PLEEEZUHHHH...the raps should resign him..he doesn't bring trouble in the organization...and just plays and actually pretty darn good for a bench player. i hope he makes it on the sophomore team in the all-star game. there is one other team i could see bonner playing for and that's utah...i dunno, something about utah and umm, ye..i dunno where im going

Ok, Zaza's signed an offer sheet with the Hawks, and Bucks would likely match it so there's no point in talking about him. Araujo and him have a history of going at each other in a bad way so I don't think he will be a good fit, chemistry-wise.

There is 3 teams going after Zaza. Hawks, (Bucks), and Sonics.

I doubt we'd be able to land him, and really wouldn't want him either... remember him and Hoffa. Yeah, you bet.

Guys it was one game, and tension can get high when the game gets physical. Which I'm sure Hoffa doesn't struggle to do.

Anyway Zaza can only go to Atlanta or the Bucks depending if the Bucks agree on the signing.

I hope Bonner is reasonable and we re-sign him. He is definitely a good guy to have around. PERIOD!

Salabrine got a ridiculous contract, so I hope Bonner doesn't want that kind of money.

I wouldn't mind getting Bonner for 1.5 - 2 mill over 4 to 6 years. He is one of the few guys I wouldn't mind giving a long contract that will be benefitial on the court and locker room and wouldn't stop trying.

It wasn't only one game. Don't you remember the summer league games last year? They were getting double-teched and commiting close to 10 fouls. It's like they are some mortal enemies or something.

Yea, I tend to not get much news from the summer league. Unfortunately, so I didn't know that they were fighting during the summer league.

Maybe it wouldn't have been a great move to get Zaza for the Raptors.

Actualy it first seems like he got a ridiculous contract but it pans out to 3 million a year which isn't very ridiculous.

I wouldn't pay either Scalabrine or Bonner over 2 mill a year.
