    There is still hope!

According to a Houston Chronicle report on Saturday, free agent guard Damon Stoudamire had agreed to sign a 4-year pact with the Grizzlies.
Not so fast, says Mr. Stoudamire.

Local Fox news in Houston spoke with Damon at Tracy McGrady's celebrity softball game on Saturday and the 5-foot-10 point guard stated that he has not spoken with the Grizzlies and that his agent has interacted with them just once.

Stoudamire went on to say that the Rockets are his number one choice and have been for a while.

He also spoke with Channel 2 News in Houston, adding that Portland was "trying to block everything I'm doing", likely alluding to sign-and-trade attempts by the Rockets.

The fact that Stoudamire did say good things about the situation in Memphis could suggest that the the Grizzlies have in fact put an offer out on the table, but the guard likely is holding out hope that Houston and Portland can come to an agreement on a trade.</div>

I was gonna post this right after I heard it on Fox 26, but I am one lazy cracker.

I do hope Damon comes to Houston, and I do feel that the Rockets and Blazers can work out some sort of deal. However, if he doesn't come, the Rockets still have other options left. I just do not feel comfortable with the current back-court we have. It in now way compares to the other teams who feel they can contend for the Title. Our Frontcourt however .. well, we aren't look too shabby there anymore.

But Championship teams always make tweaks to their roster, and the Rockets still have some time to work something out. We still need a Shooting Guard, though.

There were rumors that the Rockets were looking to trade Howard for Stoudemire....

    That's Stoud'A'mire.

    Stoud'E'mire is Phoenix's Amare.

I couldn't imagine the Rockets trading Juwon unless a solid PF was involved on the other end of the trade. Why would te Rockets go to all this trouble to finally improve their frontcourt to destroy it once again?

The Rockets would mostl ikely offer Wesley and expiring contracts for Damon.

I wonder if it could be a 3-way trade or something involving Portland and Memphis then Memphis and Houston? hmmm

    Rockets are best!

if that,it would be very good to houston! but trading Howard for stoudemire
is not reactive. If that happens,it would be the old rockets when swift get sick

To be honest, I've been lied to so many times by the media, that I can not believe this, nor any other news from now on. How can a supposedly "credible" news source come out and report that Damon Stoudamire is officially a Grizzly, and then another "credible" news source can come out and report that Damon Stoudamire is leaning towards the Rockets? As I said in the Grizzlies forum, it should be illegal. I still think Memphis is in the running for Stoudamire though, and even if they don't get him, they'll trade away Jason Williams for another Point Guard to play alongside Bobby Jackson.

Great, yes there is still hope we could finally land a PG. Hopefully Stoudamire. But I heard the Rockets were looking at Payton as well. I hope we get at least one decent point guard.

It was the Houston Chronicle that reported that he left for Memphis... and everyone else reported from that report. Then the local news said otherwise after talking to Damon at the softball game. So I think it's the Chronicles fault. I even read on chron.com today about the report from the softball game. It's the Chronicles fault for not following up.

It's really funny that the chronicle mentions in a blurb what Damon says in a report on Swift and not it's own article retracting the original report... Maybe it's just me.. but I also can't find the Memphis trade article anymore on chron.com (is it just me? can anyone else find the original report?)

I also read this in a South Florida Sun-Sentinel report in regards to a deal
    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">
With Portland point guard Damon Stoudemire on the verge of a free-agent contract with Memphis, Earl Watson, a Grizzlies free agent point guard linked to the Heat, likely will be allowed to depart.</div>

and this in a memphis report:
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Griz president Jerry West already has Williams's replacement in the starting lineup on the radar.

Although Damon Stoudamire is atop the Grizzlies' wish list, West downplayed a Houston Chronicle report that the Griz and Stoudamire have agreed on a four-year, $17 million contract.

"We have interest," West said Saturday. "We're exploring a lot of options, and he's not the only one. We have interest in a lot of people."

"But it's just conversation at this point," Goodwin said when asked about a reported Grizzly contract that would start at less than the midlevel exception or about $4 million.
    </div>

looks like the Houston Chronicle "jumped the gun" It also mentions a three way deal with Memphis and Jason Williams with Miami and another team

it would be nice to get damon, but we still need a sg/sf and there's no way I'd trade Howard for Stoudamire straight up.

^He still has 1-2 years in him.

If Portland isnt interested in doing a sign and trade with Houston, there is pretty much isnt much of a chance that we can get him. I really want him to come though, so i hope that portland will give in. I wouldnt send howard away at this point but maybe we can send away a guy like wesley. That way sura can move to the 2 and that is cap relief fo rthe blazers.

Damon Stoudamire was recently (July 30th) at T-Macs charity softball tournament. There are pictures of him talking with Barry and Sura. Could this mean something? I doubt it, but just felt its something that should be brought up.
