Word is Jason Williams of the Grizzlies will be dealt in a 3-way trade involving Miami and Boston according to a well placed Grizzlies source... Michael Doleac is the player Miami will ship out, likely getting Antoine Walker in a sign and trade package if you connect the dots... Dollie goes to Memphis, JDub goes to Boston --- Dale Davis has been rumored to Miami as a free agent, and all things make sense. Miami sources in typical fashion deny any knowledge of a sign and trade, and the word from Boston is they are not talking with anyone - today. http://www.hoopsworld.com/article_13607.shtml
J-will to Boston would be amazing! We get a flashy Point Guard that can change the style of play in a game and run the offense. I def. wouldnt mind getting J-Will and in my opinion him coming to Boston would guarantee the C's in the playoffs.
Jerry West can not honestly be that stupid, can he? With all of the enticing trade bait out there (Cassell, Magloire, E.Jones), he bites on Michael Doleac? There has got to be more to this deal like Mark Blount, Eddie Jones, picks, or Larry Bird out of retirement, because (for lack of better words) the Grizzlies are getting raped otherwise. From a Boston perspective, the successfulness of this trade would really hinge on how Boston let's Jason Williams run the offense. If they keep him slowed down like Brown and Fratello did, he's not going to be very effective. The real winner in this trade is Miami. They give up absolutely nothing for Antoine Walker. How did that happen?
No chance this deal goes down with the Heat only giving up Michael Doleac. Other teams will jump him to make sure the Heat don't get away from giving up nothing for a quality player. Hard to believe players like Walker and JWill have fallen so far out of favor that they are being traded for the likes of Michael Doleac. Especially when Doleac's contract plays out until the 2008/09 season. I also don't see how this works under the salary cap. JWill makes over $7M a season and Doleac only makes a little over $2M. Where's the $5M difference from Miami's side come from?
There's been talk of Miami using a trade exception in addition to Doleac, which would total up to about 6 million and make the trade work under the new CBA.
Not these are the kind of rumors I like to hear. What's this now? A veteran point to run a showstopping offense? I'll take it! Not only that, but the Antoine mystery gets worked out in one fell swoop. And yes, VC, this is total rape on the part of the Grizz, but I won't argue. I wonder what Jerry West is thinking?
Jerry West is thinking, I only have to do this one more year and the majority of people will always remember me for my career as a Laker anyway. I'm not sure how acquiring a TE benefits the Grizzlies, but maybe they have another deal on the table to get an upgrade at center. JWill on the Celtics is a great fit for the team because the Celtics are quickly transitioning into an uptempo basketball team. Regardless of JWill's character issues, he does produce and he's won everywhere he's played. He's been in the post-season 5 out 7 years in his career, and he's never had a problem differing to teammates. He just needs his coach to have confidence in his style of play and not overreact when JWill hot dogs a little on the court. He has kept a steady 3 to 1 Ast/To ratio and has lowered his turnovers every season, so does understand the importance of protecting the rock. JWill still needs to work on his shot selection, but he's been improving his FG% each year.
can you imagine a line up including him at point only prob is that this would be problems for banks. they could be the next phynix with an up tempo game C-Al jeff/Blount Pf-Pierce/Reed sf-Davis/Gomes sg-Allen/Green pg-Jason/Delonte can Al play centre?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Bobcats:</div><div class="quote_post">Maybe Al could play the 5 effectively, but Pierce sure as hell can't play PF.</div> Amen, I think he just had the Phoenix thing in mind, where the marquee 4 plays a little 5, and we have a four guard set, which won't work for this team. Doc's mentality is that they feast on defensive rebounds, and with Pierce at the 4, we don't get defensive rebounds. That's not to say he's a bad rebounder, but's he a terrible rebounder for a 4. He's a great rebounder for a guard, but he ain't Shawn Marion, that's for sure. And maybe Al can play the 5, but with his lack of experience with defensive rotations and positioning on the boards, which is evident when you watch him play even in the summer league (although I've found it to be a bad indicator of his readiness), I don't think he'll really fit there for the time being. Williams does as an element of flexibility to our running game, but not that much. And who wants to see Blount as a backup at the 5? Not me. I say bury him like we did in the playoffs, and make him earn his bread. Perk is a more effective defensive center at this point (as in, he grabs rebounds and doesn't play like a matador), and I'd love to see Al come along and see us go small from time to time. I could even see Gomes at the 3 and Reed at the 4 with a nice small lineup from time to time, but that will be a little ways off too, as Reed has work to do with rotations as well.
What`s going with Gary Payton, signing with another team? Signing? Leaving? Would he settle for coming off the bench and possibly playing two-guard?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting The Soft Parade:</div><div class="quote_post">What`s going with Gary Payton, signing with another team? Signing? Leaving? Would he settle for coming off the bench and possibly playing two-guard?</div> Unfortunately, GP has no intention of signing with the Celtics, and the Celtics have no intention of paying him. He has worked out with some younger C's players this summer, but there is virtually no chance he will again be with the team come preseason. He would be forced to take a pay cut from his previous pay cut, and that would be something the union may not let him do. At worst, he is still a serviceable point guard, and I wish him luck elsewhere. Hopefully, he and his family can get together and not have to worry about moving all over the place anymore. His agent, Aaron Goodwin, has had no contact with the C's, and he has not talked to too many other teams either. GP is very much in limbo right now, but the moratorium has only just now been decided, so we'll see where he lands. Initially, he expressed an interest in playing for the Lakers again, but they have said they aren't interested, and that should be the end of that. Aside from that rumor, we really don't know.

jerry west i hate you now because you are tearing apart the memphis grizzlies and this is the stupidest trade i ever heard and i want jerry west fired if he makes this deal
I will not put my stamp of approval of a trade for JWill. Jwill has steady gotten better offensely with each passing year but his defense is much to be desired. The Cs problem is not our offense it is our defense. We dont need another 6-1 pg when we already have 2 of them (Banks, West). The Cs are hoping that they addressed both of those issues, size and defense, by drafting then signing O. Greene for the next 2 years. Plus we dont need another head case in the locker room. We have two of those already, Pierce and Davis. This trade makes no sense to me. However, I did read yeaterday that the trade would actually have M Doleac coming to Boston not Jwill.

He hasn't contributed anything in his career. Aside from that, yes, defense is an issue, but I would rather have a guy that can run the show from the point, than an offensively inept point guard that could play defense (Banks). I think Banks is destined for a NBDL stint this season at some point. I see Greene getting more PT around midseason. That's a tough thing to swallow for a guy like Banks, who pours it out on the court. Aside from that, there is one (1) head case in the C's locker room. Davis inherited a bad rep, and has shown nothing of the kind with this squad. He has shown NO SIGN of being a head case with this team, and I don't see it happening again any time soon. Everybody just lay off Davis, unless you have some proof that he's unhappy or disrupting the team somehow, or you can show us where he done anything outside of being a model citizen with this squad. As for Doleac's pedestrian contributions, can someone tell me why he should be on this team? Any reason at all? I'm all ears. And if it has anything to do with denying Perk good minutes, I don't want to hear, because that's just nonsense. Not only that, but you show me one instance of JWill being a negative influence since he joined the Grizzlies. That guy has the same rep, it makes no sense. He used to be quite the hot dog, but that's a style he took with him from a game he played very well in high school, and he unlearned just as capably as he learned. He's cut down on turnovers every year, he's got a decent FG% (indicating shot selection), and he's been quite the good doobie in Memphis as well. I'm tired of people labeling these guy for things they did four and five years ago and having it stick. Let's not also forget that JWill and Ricky know eachother from the And1 tour, so there may well be some chemistry there too.

I did say that Jwill has gotten better over the years but I will bring up two instances where both Ricky and Jason have slid back to their bad boy past. How can we forget Mr Davis's tirade at practice in front of middle school kids in the stands. Coach Rivers threw Ricky out of practice because he cussed out the asst. coaches for making bad calls during a Cs scrimmage. All in front of impressionable school kids. And last but not least how can we forget Mr Williams pulling a Ryan Leaf on a reporter at the end of the year by yelling in the reporter's ear then taking the reporter's pen out of his hands, not once but twice. Telling his teammates not to give the reporter any interviews. He had to pulled away by another teammate. I am sure that there may have been some other instances that we dont know about. I do remember Ricky getting thrown out of practice for going at it with Mark Blount. You maybe right that Ricky and Jason have gotten bad reps but sometimes they go back to being their old selves.

I guess you can take the tiger outta the jungle, and you know the rest. Although, I do have to forgive Ricky his tirade with Blount, if I was there in Waltham, even to clean towels, I'd want that guy off my team. But other than that, I guess I have to say, I honestly forgot about those. Ricky has been notably better though, I think we can agree on that, and certainly nothing on a national stage, nothing that would attract the attention of a sports writing following. Nevertheless, I concede that point. And let's be honest, at least JWill doesn't turn the ball over ten times a game anymore, so that's about all I would ask out of him. But Doleac? No way, no how.
This is truly a weird trade. I mean, the Heat give up Doleac and recieve Walker?? He will flourish in Miami's system, and get a lot of open 3s which is what he likes. Plus, with Shaq there, he won't be taking any stupid shots..
