Quick question: Having watched from afar for the past few years, and being a C's fan (the Kings torch them annually), I have wondered? Are there any holes in Mike Bibby's game? He runs a great offense, he fights through screens, is a great passer, is solid with defensive rotations, plays at the very least, decent defense, and runs like hell. Not to mention that he is tremendously clutch. Where is his downside? Maybe, as closer observers than myself, you could help me with this. Thanks in advance.
I have been wondering the same thing, I find trouble finding something Bibby cant do, now I dont watch every kings game but from the ones i have seen he can distribute the ball, cross you over, create his own shot, and as Ignignot stated Bibby is clutch. Bibby is solid, and from what ive seen there arent many downsides to his game.
I dont think there is any real downside to mikes game, he is a top point guard, and i think he should be an all-star soon enough.
Mike Bibby is definatley one of the premire point guards in this league. He does'nt have any problems. He runs the offense very well, and passes excellent. Not to mention he could hit the open jumper, or 3, even when it is last second shot. He is a decent defender in my book's, too. BUT, I've figured a small downside in Bibby's game. Last year in the playoffs, the Sonics did great at defending him. Bibby loves going left. The Seattle Sonics made him go right, which ruined the whole Kings offense. I think Bibby needs to work on going right and the Kings need some plays with Bibby going right. Don't get me wrong, Bibby still dominated that series. But, the main point, the Kings in general did not do that well. Mike Bibby still is one of the best point guards, and should be an all star this season.
Bibby's downside is his lack of athleticism. His athleticism is below average to mediocre at best and this somewhat hampers his defensive ability.

He does everything pretty good but nothing great, he's a top 4 PG in my book.
Yeah, he has a weakness or two. But Mike Bibby is still one of the top point guards in the league. He should be an all star.
Id say Bibby is the 6th best point guard in the league. In no order its Nash,Kidd,Davis,Billups,Iverson and MAYBE Arenas who are ahead of Bibby in my mind. The thing is is Bibby is a better clutch performer than most of those players I named.
I would say Bibby's only downfall is that he hasn't lived up to the hype of being the #2 pick in the 1998 draft, which was a very strong class that included Jamison, Vince, Pierce, Nowitzki, and Rashard Lewis. Bibby was picked in front of all of those players and hasn't quite lived up to those expectations. Other then that I don't see any part of Bibby's game that has a weakness, he is a good all around player.
It is hard to think of any downsides to Mike Bibby's game. A few became evident last year however when he was mostly the primary offensive weapon and the defense began focusing on him. His athleticism left him unable to create his own shot in some sets, although he still manages to get his fair share, and I think because of his extended playing time his free throw shooting began to suffer a little more than it should have. He does have a tendency to go left which the Sonics were able to exploit, and also if you go back one more year and look at the series against the T'wolves Bibby struggled with a taller more active defender (Sprewell) than most PG's Bibby matches up with. I think Bibby is one of the most underrated players in the league despite his draft position and expectations. His numbers aren't going to be as high because of the pass first offense the kings run. Also, because he isn't as flashy as other players he may not ever make the All Star team thanks to the fans who vote for style over skill. Hopefully Mike will keep up tthe hard work and tough play that he has shown since he's been with the Kings and if he continues to do this I think the recognition will come with time.
there are a few downsides. has problems defensivly especially keeping his man in front of him. lots of teams are pretty good at setting picks on him. he doesnt easily rattle, but when he does get rattled, nothing goes in. often times doesnt really pay attention and will try to inbound the ball rather than letting someone else inbound the ball to him... not a major thing, but it leads to a lot of turnovers. dont get me wrong, I would pick Bibby over almost ANY gaurd in the leage, but just like any player, he does have some areas in his game that need improvement
he's not as creative, not as athletic as other PGs but usually is smarter. When the Kings traded JWill for MB, I thought the Grizz got the better deal. While Jwill is more athletic and immensely more creative, MB is much better than him in all other areas. I would say the only thing holding Bibby back is his size when he plays D on some of the bigger PGs out there. Just imagine little Mike trying to guard Shaun Livingston, lol.
^Id say that was a poor analysis of Bibby's weaknesses. Not creative and undersized? He creates shots for himself as well as his teammates and hes 6'1.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting GiantMidget:</div><div class="quote_post">Bibby's downside is his lack of athleticism. His athleticism is below average to mediocre at best and this somewhat hampers his defensive ability.</div> MEDIOCRE? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? MIKE BIBBY. the dude who took arizona to the ncaa finals...the dude who took sacramento to the quarter finals his first year with them, the dude who took them to the semi finals the following year? he's got tons of athleticism and makes everyone around him better. you call this guy mediocre? mediocre players don't end up being the leaders of their team...dude, this guy is a soon-to-be all-star.
^Calm down.I said his athleticism is mediocre, not that hes mediocre as a player.Every aspect of Bibby's game is outstanding aside from his athleticism. If he were as athletic as say a Billups or Francis,or even Tony Parker he'd be a damn near unstoppable force. It was the Semi-Finals that Bibby lead the Kings to by the way.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting GiantMidget:</div><div class="quote_post">^Id say that was a poor analysis of Bibby's weaknesses. Not creative and undersized? He creates shots for himself as well as his teammates and hes 6'1.</div> I believe I said not as creative, not "Not Creative". Bibby can make his own shots, and plays I know. I'd just pay to see someone else.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I'd just pay to see someone else.</div> So then youre saying he lacks flashiness and somehow thats a weakness.
