I thought this would suit the olympics board more, but seeing as its rarely posted in, nobody would see this post and therefore there would be no discussion. Seeing as the USA team failed expectations in Athens, currently, who would you choose to be in your Olympic line up? You would have to choose 12 players. note, this is the team I would choose if they were being held now, in 3 years we can't tell who is going to be a prodigy. We don't know who will shine in 3 years so choose players on current performance. PG- LeBron James SG- Kobe Bryant SF- Kevin Garnett PF- Tim Duncan C- Shaquille O'Neal PG- Dwayne Wade SG- Tracy McGrady SF- Paul Pierce SF- Vince Carter PF- Jermaine O'Neal C- Amare Stoudamire C- Ben Wallace Coach- Phil Jackson Imagine on offence running into Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan and Shaquille O'Neal! Alot of the players can play in about 3 positions, mainly in the SF, PG and SG department. The PF's can also play in the C position.
It is kind of to early to tell about the Olympics in 08, and they are going to be hosted in Bejing to.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting briang8818:</div><div class="quote_post">You still want Shaq ther in 3 years, or even think he'll still be playing?</div> Read my post. Look at this part in itallic which I wrote. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">note, this is the team I would choose if they were being held now, in 3 years we can't tell who is going to be a prodigy. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Not neccesarly, the best players in the NBA in one team doesn't make it the best team.</div> But that is what you have done with your list... slabbed the best players in the NBA on teh starting line and on the bench. We all know now that the team has to have chemistry, and specialists. Argentina did it like that. We can't just put the best players in the line up, whatever fits the best is what we have to do. Do you think Shaq would play with Kobe? And even if he does would he ever even pass to him, when he doesn't even say his name in public.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Do you think Shaq would play with Kobe? And even if he does would he ever even pass to him, when he doesn't even say his name in public.</div> For America, I'm sure Shaq will. In an ideal world this would be the lineup. And no, I didn't use the best players. Statistically and in other ways, I could have used Jason Kidd instead of Dwyane Wade and I could have used Brad Miller instead of Ben Wallace. Statistically, for their positions, these players have ideal stats.
PG- Wade SG- Ray Allen SF- Artest PF- Garnett C- Amare Wade, and Amare give you a young uptempo team, mixed with Artest's defense,Garnett in the post and Allen's outside shooting this would make an interesting lineup
Haha, how do you not include the 3 best shooting guards in the NBA on your olymic team, KOBE, T-MAC, & IVERSON baby!!! My lineup would look like this: Starting 5: C:Tim Duncan PF: Kevin Garnett SF: Tracy McGrady SG: Kobe Bryant PG: Allen Iverson Back Up 5: C: Shaquille O'Neal PF: Amare Stoudemire SF: LeBron James SG: Vince Carter PG: Dwayne Wade Other Good Players To Consider (In No Particular Order): G: Gilbert Arenas F: Dirk Nowitzki G: Ray Allen F: Jermaine O'Neal G: Steve Nash F: Ron Artest G: Michael Redd F: Shawn Marion G: Paul Pierce That would be my dream team 2005!!! Now 2008.....that lineup will most likely change drastically, as there will probably be other young players to consider by then.....Dwight Howard, Chris Bosh, Emeka Okafor, Ben Gordon and others from the 2005, 2006, 2007, and even 2008 drafts.

Those 3 are all shot first players who look for their own shot first before others. IMO that would be bad in olympic play as shown last year. Play maker I like your team, and how it works. Although I feel there's too many forwards on the bench, and don't have a backup PG. VC and Pierce are almost the same mould, so replace one with a hustler, a prime role player. I also feel if you alreayd have Duncan, KG, Amare ther'es no room for Jermaine, who's a poor man's KG and Duncan who shoots fadeaways.

He's right up there in the elite PF category.
I think I used the wrong terminology. I didn't mean Poor man's as in someone who's game resembles them but sucks, I meant it as KG and Duncan do basically everything that J.O does, plus more. Therefore I'll say he plays the same as KG and Duncan except at a lower level.
I agree, however, if JO is better at one thing than KG, it's defense. O'Neal is really underrated when it comes to his defensive game. Anyways, for my lineup, I would have it like this: Starting 5: PG: Allen Iverson SG: LeBron James SF: Tracy McGrady PF: Kevin Garnett C: Tim Duncan Bench: PG - Dwyane Wade SG - Kobe Bryant SF - Vince Carter SF - Shawn Marion PF - Amare Stoudamire PF - Jermaine O'Neal C - Shaquille O'Neal Great offense, mixed with some great defense.
I thoughtthe US Basketball was going to revise how they chose their basketball rosters? Ther was very little enthusiasm in going ot Athens, and I don't think there will be(unless things change) in 2008. That being said, I think the United STates team will choose toda's young guns and those enthusiastic and who want to play for their country.
I still think any team with KG, Tim Duncan and Shaq together in one team will make one hell of a defence.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Other Good Players To Consider (In No Particular Order): G: Gilbert Arenas F: Dirk Nowitzki G: Ray Allen F: Jermaine O'Neal G: Steve Nash F: Ron Artest G: Michael Redd F: Shawn Marion G: Paul Pierce</div> HMMMM, Dirk Nowitzki is from Germany and plays for the german national team. I also would rather see a mixture of players not just the games top names and headliners. The team needs players who can shoot as well as slash and cut and hustlers. I'd like to see a team like, just as a proposition of course nothing final: PG- Dwyane Wade (or somebody else who can slash and penetrate at ease: B-diddy/ allen iverson/etc) SG- Ray Allen: a terrific shooter who has other attributes to his game, and can score off the dribble SF- LeBron James: amazing athleticism and good court sense, is a good rebounder too. (Might slide Tayshaun prince or Artest in there instead, somebody with much more solid defense, but can also score as well.) PF- Garnett C- Duncan : With Duncan and Garnett we'll still be bigger than every other country pretty much aside from china, and we'll be much more skilled.
