With all the allegation in the MLB and what its doing to baseball, do you think the NBA needs a much stricter policy? In my opinion it definately does. i know a lot of you are gonna say nba players dont need steroids it doesn't help them, thats bs. regrdless if it helps or not, if players think it will give them an edge they'll take it. Without specific name calling and ish talkin, do you think there are players juicing in the nba right now?
there really havent been any cases of roids on basketball, so until there are multiple offenses, I think we're fine the way it is, because right now there really isn't a need for a srict policy.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting playmaker31:</div><div class="quote_post">is, because right now there really isn't a need for a srict policy.</div> See thats what i don't get when people say there isn't much of a problem so we dont need strict policy's. That's like a city with low crime rates going well there's not much crime going on so lets make the penalties for committing crimes low...
dude, baseball has steroid problems..why? because they need strengh and power to smack the ball as hard as they can. Basketball no steroid problem..because you dont necesarily NEED strengh to play ball. You need quickness and need to keep practicing your shot..strengh only plays a role for the centers or PF that want to get bigger..but honestly you really think theres people in the nba that loook like there doing roids. When you take roids you are huge! Imagine Giambi or Mcguire with a sleeveless shirt muscles would be flying. I cant really find 1 big man in the nba that lookS THAAATT strong to the point where steroids would even be broughten up.
Steroids also help with pain and recovery(I know because I take them). Older players could be taking them just like they do in baseball, not to bulk up, but to be able to make it through an 82 game schedule. The NBA definitely needs a stricter policy, especially as far as testing. The only time they test veterans is in training camp, so it's easy to get ready for.
Even though steroids aren't needed as much in basketball as in baseball. I still feel they shoud have a stricter policy.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">ubtil something bad happens im not gonna talk about this thanki you very much</div>Then why post in the thread? Anyway we can cleary see why steroids would be usedin baseball. The power of the hit of the bat, the strength of a throw of a ball, and just a number of things that would improve your game. But I think Truth said it, why would you need the roids when you need to practice your butt off to become better?
Totally agree with thrilla on this one. They're good for any number of physical recovery and training regimens, and I would have to assume (since seven of the eleven kinds of my high school team used them) that NBA'ers do too. There's any number of reasons why a league should institute a strict policy against performance enhancers as well as narcotics, and the NBA is one of the last truly lax leagues in that respect. That's not to say that baseball's policy is any good, it's not, it's too soft, way too soft. But narcotics are just as big a deal, just ask Charles Oakley, who not too many years ago stated that "60%" of the league smoked weed. But by looking at half these players, that number seems a little low to me (I think I'm only half kidding).
I read over 44`s post again and wow, I never really thought about steroids and the MLB that way. Older players need that extra strengh...this really changed alot of my views...

If it's that steroids won't help a basketball player, then you're wrong. One thing that people, and I mean MOST PEOPLE, get totally wrong is that steroids only help you bulk up. That is so completely false. You can basically use steroids for whatever you want. They can help your stamina, they can help you get back from an injury faster, they can help you become stronger, faster, etc.. To say that the NBA's current testing is adequate would be a ridiculous statement. Like I already mentioned, NBA Vets are only tested in training camp. That leaves the whole rest of the year open for all of their steroid using pleasure. They should at least implement some kind of random testing throughout both the offseason and the season itself. It's only for the benefit of the league, and if what you guys seem to think is true...is, in fact, true...then we'd have nothing to worry about.

The idea that steroids wont be a problem in the nba is wrong. In the past nba players like baseball players never lifted weights...now both athletes lift them like crazy. Without naming names let's just say a big man in miami (who isn't shaq), has bulked up quite a bit in his later years... the truth is 20 years ago the idea of a basketball players lifting weights was unheard of, now its mandatory. things are changing in the nba, and the rules need to reflect that.

Alonzo is pretty ripped, but I don't think he juices. Of course, I don't know him as a person, but he doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would do that since he's a hard worker.

He's in his mid thirties and looks more buffed then when he was in his mid twenties...
that's rediculous, Zo does not do roids, he's ripped but not steroids ripped. He's also lifted to so he's probably not on roids. Just cuz he's bulked up dusn't mean he's on roids, plus where'd u hear the rumor? If we don't see a source why should we believe this.
Like what's been said baseball players don't just take the steroids so that it helps them hit a homerun, what it really does is it helps them revitalizes their stamina so they can hit full strength to last till the end of the season (which is quite hard and long for vets). Still this shouldn't make steroids any more acceptable for any sport. Steroids can help not only the big guys but even small PGs. BBall has gotten more physical so players will use any advantage they can to get an edge. I think Malone was taking steroids, but I don't know it's hard to tell what's natural and what's not when most players are buff to start with.
