He wont be nearly as effective at piont as he would at the 2. He has pretty good court vision for a natural two but I dont think he gets other people the ball in a good enough position to be a worthwhile option at the 1. I'd look for Atlanta to trade one of their young swingmen (Childress?) for a young PG (Jameer Nelson?) sometime before the all-star break.

He is decent. Good enough to start for some bad teams like...the Hawks!

JJ doesn't look like a player who would be able to lead a team. He is a good shooting guard but he doesn't have the qualities of a point guard. He wouldn't be able to get other team players involved like how a point guard should so he should be left to a position he is comfortable with.

I'll bet they will be refering to Delk a whole lot more than they suspect, Salim is pure tweener if i ever saw one and really can only shoot. I dont know of any teams that have two true SGs playing point.

LOL [IMG] , I think Salim can be a Iverson type player, he plays with plenty of heart.

If the Hawks could give up childress for Nelson i'd say do it in a heartbeat, it's my opinion that Josh Smith, Josh Childress, Marvin Williams and more than half the team are all natural 3s and you have enough of them, you don't have a real 1, it'd also give Jameer a definite starting spot where he can thrive. That kid is the truth. for my part though I hope he stays with the magic and wins the job there.

he has however said that hes really exited about it. he said that he really enjoys playing point.i belive,"having the ball in his hands" were his exact words and that he would do it if asked too.

That was exactly what I was thinking, it is perfect for both sides. ATL gets rid of one of it's young 2/3s (the one with the consensus least potential) for a legit PG. Orlando just gave Keyon Dooling the starting job and said they dont plan to move Francis, plus they got Diener in the draft. If they get Childress, he could back-up Francis at the two or they could move Francis back to the one and Dooling to back-up, Childress would also be a good replacement for Grant Hill once he retires.

That may be so but lets say a wide reciever plays a few downs of cornerback in a football game, he says it was fun but how fun would it be to play a whole season and why use a player out of his position and get weaker results? If jj plays point his advantages such as great scoring, superior court vision, and great ball handling are no longer there and all he really has is a physical advantage. Most PGs have at least as good ball-handling and court vision as JJ but JJ will probably be asked to score less and provide more shots for others. This is a huge role reversal because we dont even know how JJ will play without a great PG like Nash as well as a supporting cast that didnt allow double teams.

Joe Johnson can play point guard well, but is a natural 2 and can play that position much more consistently. JJ grew up idolizing Magic Johnson and always spoke of how he enjoyed playing the point and creating for his teammates. The problem is he was never as effective playing the point as he was playing shooting guard. JJ played very well in spurts but is not a great creator or superb ball handler. He also might have trouble playing against smaller quicker guards. The shooting guard was an ideal position for him because he was as quick as everyone at the position but overpowered most anyone who guarded him. As I have said before JJ is a great player, just not the superstar it takes to run a team.

I agree, JJ always wanted to play PG, but he just doesn't have the speed to keep up with SG like Nash, Kidd, and Parker, but he does have the skills to keep up with the great SG in the League, he only averaged about 3 assists this last season, he might be able to get 7 with the Hawks.

The Hawks won't be a contending team this year, JJ is just a role player not a star player.

Now don't be dumb. JJ is a future all-star and you said that when he played on the Suns.

He is a very good player.

i dunno if he is a future all-star, although he has that chance to do so on the Hawks...as for being good at point, i know he usually played point guard when nash was on the bench for whatever reason, so he must be good at playing it... at least a little...
