Gund Arena Renamed 'The Q'

    Gund Arena will become Quicken Loans Arena, named after the online mortgage giant that owner Dan Gilbert founded, the team said Tuesday. The Cavaliers did not disclose the cost of the naming rights.

    The team plans to emphasize the nickname "The Q" and is developing logos and signs for the downtown venue. The Cavaliers did not say when the name change would become official.

    Cavaliers officials will go before the city planning commission this week to get approval for new exterior signs on the 20,000-seat arena.

    Gilbert bought the naming rights to Gund Arena when he purchased it and the Cavaliers for $375 million from former owner Gordon Gund this year.</div>

    The Q sounds pretty good, but Quicken Loans Arena does not.

    When I first heard this... I wasn't feeling the name of this arena, now that I've taken some time to look back and see everything... I still don't like the name.

    It just sounds funny and weird at the same time.

    Imagine Marv: "We are at the Q for the NBA Finals."

    Wow....thats an interesting name. It may not be the best for the arena, but it is catchy and easy to remember. It's unique too.

    "'Ay mayn, where yooh headed tanight?"
    "Mayn, I'm going to tha Q!"
    "Is that sum club or sumthang?"
    "Naw mayn, it's the ball arena!"

    That'll happen a lot too.

    wow. THey coulda jsut shortened it to The Quicken Arena. Quicken Loans Arena? the QLA?. ugh. Atleast "the q" sounds catchy

    Yeah this is a very intresting name. I like it alot. The GM made sure that he was getting his buisness that he started out there in the open. I think it was a smart buisness move on his part.
