<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Things can finally begin popping today at 10 a.m. Mountain Time with the lifting of the NBA's much-delayed player-movement moratorium that was first supposed to have been eased on July 14, then the 22nd, then the 28th.
The NBA finally completed and signed its new collective bargaining agreement on Saturday, clearing the way for today's activities.
Free agents will actually be free to sign contracts, meaning Raja Bell can end his two seasons with the Jazz by signing a contract that has been negotiated with Phoenix, and the Utah Jazz could re-sign free-agent guard Keith McLeod after having tendered him a one-year qualifying offer.
Also, NBA teams will be free starting at midday today to finalize trades and otherwise begin tweaking their teams for the 2005-06 season.
The Jazz have that big three-team, six-player trade to complete that returns center Greg Ostertag to Salt Lake City after a season in Sacramento and sends guards Kirk Snyder, Raul Lopez and center Curtis Borchardt to Memphis.
The Jazz would not say Monday whether they would immediately complete that transaction at 10 a.m. today or if they expected to be involved in other movement today.
They do have a "newsmaker" luncheon scheduled today at noon for the media to meet with team president Dennis Haslam and coach Jerry Sloan.
Utah has its full $5 million mid-level exception available to chase free agents and has a need for experienced guards, though not many are on the market. The Clippers' 6-foot-7 combo guard Marko Jaric has been a target for the Jazz, along with the Los Angeles Lakers, Portland Trail Blazers and Minnesota Timberwolves, according to a number of news reports, but he visited Denver and Cleveland last week, and his agent said he had no more visits planned.
Jaric was to begin a vacation over the weekend.
Jaric is a restricted free agent, meaning the Clippers can match any offer he receives. For that reason, he could be a more likely acquisition for someone through a sign-and-trade agreement, though the Clippers have indicated they won't do that.
Utah also has been thought to be interested in Memphis guard Earl Watson, who is seeking the full $5 million, five-year exception. The Grizzlies, who are sending Bonzi Wells to Sacramento for Bobby Jackson as part of the Jazz-Kings-Griz trade, are also thought to be shipping point guard Jason Williams to Miami and have admitted having talks about signing Portland free agent point guard Damon Stoudamire.
Others who might meet Utah's need include New Orleans free agent Dan Dickau, Toronto free agent Milt Palacio, Seattle restricted free agent Ronald "Flip" Murray, Atlanta free agent Tyronn Lue (likely to return to the Lakers or go to the Miami Heat), Charlotte free agent Brevin Knight or perhaps even its own free agents, Howard Eisley or Randy Livingston.</div>

I don't understand the logic on the Jazz's trade to get Ostertag... he's basically nothing, and they traded 3 young guys who have barely even played. I mean who knows if they still have unlocked their full potential...

Only reason Bochardt didn't play that much was cuz he couldn't stay healthy to play. Snyder had minutes, he just couldn't produce. Raul Lopez was leaving anyways, he's going back to Spain. Ostertag is leaving next year anyways. Robert Whaley is gonna be real good too. He'll be ready in a year to produce behind Okur.

I gotta agree with Mr. Wade on this one. I can think of no worse trade than giving up 3 youngens with potential (esp. Snyder) for the ageing, crappy, over-paid, kinda insane Ostertag, who rode the pine for Sac last year. This is a terrible move for a young team on the rise who are still somewhat rebuilding. What a TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE move... and I thought Babcock was bad...

Dude, you pointed out my point, Overpaid, he's gone next year. Ostertag always does good in contract years. What is wrong with ppl, don't they get the point Raul Lopez was gone any ways, he's going back to Spain. We also got rid of an injury proned Bochardt and Kirk Snyder who was at the peak of his value. He won't get much better, after watching him in summer league, you should get my point.......

The Jazz traded Kirk Snyder, Curtis Borchardt and Raul Lopez. Raul Lopez was going to be brought out. Curtis Borchardt has struggled with injuries during his career in the NBA, and when he has been healthy spent a lot of time on the bench. Kirk Snyder wanted out of Utah and was said to be unhappy there. The Jazz got Greg Ostertag, who can be the backup C the Jazz were after. He has plenty of experience with the Jazz. However, the Jazz may have been able to get more in the trade than just Greg Ostertag.
