<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Celtics made sure they received something in return for free agent Antoine Walker, agreeing in principle to a sign-and-trade with Miami this afternoon. According to two Eastern Conference sources, Walker will receive $52 million over six years with a starting salary of approximately $6.75 million. Although the details of the deal, which likely will also involve Utah, Memphis, and Sacramento, and 12 or more players, are still being finalized, the same sources said Boston would receive two second-round picks from Miami; the rights to Albert Morales, who currently plays for Valencia, Spain; a $5.4 million trade exception; Utah 7-footer Curtis Borchardt, and Miami wing player Qyntel Woods as well as cash considerations from Miami. Other players trading places in the deal include the Grizzlies? Jason Williams and James Posey heading to the Heat. Eddie Jones would move from Miami to Memphis. Greg Ostertag goes from Sacramento to Utah, while Bobby Jackson leaves Sacramento for Memphis. Kirk Snyder and Raul Lopez go from Utah to Memphis.</div> http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/ce...o_miami?mode=PF The Globe has more details on what we'll get.
Wow, huge trade. Miami will definatly be a favorite to win the title next season. but as for us, I like this trade. We were probably going to lose Walker to free agency but now we get 2 draft picks, Qyntel Woods, 5.7 Million trade exeption, Curtis Borchardt, and Albert Morales. The only drawback is that this makes the competition tougher for us in the East.
The only thing we will get out of this is the 5.7 exemption which is fine with me. We can turn around and pick up a veteran free agt. I dont see us keeping Woods or Borchardt. We will probably waive them or buy them out. There is one thing that I keep wondering; "Who the hell is Albert Moralles?"
^ He was drafted in 04 by Toronto and traded to Miami on draft night. He went back overseas to improve his game I think.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">MIAMI -- In the largest trade in NBA history, Antoine Walker was dealt from Boston to Miami on Tuesday night in a transaction involving five teams and 13 players. The Heat also acquired point guard Jason Williams and small forward James Posey from Memphis, while the Grizzlies received guard Eddie Jones from the Heat. The New Orleans Hornets and Utah Jazz were also involved in the deal. The trade was larger than a 12-player, four-team deal in 2000 involving Patrick Ewing that had been the biggest in league history. Miami also received Andre Emmett from Memphis and the draft rights to Roberto Duenas of Spain from the Hornets; Utah received Greg Ostertag from Memphis; Boston picked up Curtis Borchardt from Utah and a package -- Qyntel Woods, the draft rights to Spanish center Albert Miralles, two second-round draft picks and cash -- from Miami; New Orleans acquired Rasual Butler from Miami and Kirk Snyder from Utah; and the Grizzlies received guard Raul Lopez from the Jazz.</div> http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2122976 It's finally official.
Wow so are we giving the Heat their trophy now? Ok so a couple of questions: Does this mean Big Al is going to be our starting PF next year? Does this mean Delonte is going to be our starting PG next year? With Antoine gone is Pierce next to go? How does Boston or any east team plan to win against the Heat? I mean I guess the trade was good if we got something instead of getting nothing, but really, what did we get. Some money to sign a so-so veteran, a Euro prospect, and a couple of no names. The Heat got Walker, Posey, and Williams. At the very least I would've liked to seen Posey coming to Boston, I'm not sure what his salary is but he is one of the best perimeter defenders in the league. Or JWill, who would've fueled our fastbreak mantra. But Im not sure what to think of this, the Celtics don't really impress me. It seems like we're still rebuilding...
Well, we gave Detroit the championship 2 seasons ago(Rasheed Wallace trade), now we are giving Miami one as well...lol But as 44Thrilla said, at least we are getting something for nothing as Walker could have just signed with another team anyway... I still think that we should of got something a little better back for him though...ah well, lets just hope Al Jefferson can keep improving and turn into the player we all hope he will!
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting 44Thrilla:</div><div class="quote_post">Is it really that bad? We're losing nothing. Walker is unrestricted and we could have lost him to free agency and got zip. Instead we'll get a rumored 5.5 million in trade exceptions(via FSNE), which may prove to be very valuable at a later date. The players we get in return are junk, but Woods will most likely be waived with no cap hit. Borchardt is a decent big man to pick up for nothing, too. We can't really complain about getting something for nothing.</div> No, I suppose I have no complaints about something for nothing, especially those TE's. I can just see the wicked machinations Ainge has going on in his head right now. Although I don't think anyone would disagree that Wright and Watson for nothing is a much more advantageous deal, but apparently that was just fantasy, so I won't harp on it. I realize now tha I can't stress enough this TE. Ainge has to have something up his sleeve, let's see how it plays out.
this trade does make me a little upset...last year we had a solid team that we could have worked with to get deeper into the playoffs..but instead ainge rearranges the lineups again...we didnt get nearly anythign close to what walker is worth and we handed miami the trophy...now where do we stand?

Now to your point, we definitely feel your pain, but you have to view it from a business standpoint and realize our sights are focused on 2-3 years from now. We also had no choice but to make this deal because we'd be letting Walker get away for nothing if we didn't. But in all honestly, I still like out current roster for this year and I think we will do more damage then people think. Losing Walker is only going to make it more exciting for us because we get to see more of Big Al.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Bobcats:</div><div class="quote_post">When did that happen? Atlanta traded Rasheed, not Boston.</div>Yes, but it was us that allowed it to happen by getting involved and being the third team. We took Chucky and Lindsay off their hands so the salaries would match.

Ainge has a lot more dealing to do this offseason (or he set himself up for a good trade deadline), but for right now, our roster is better than people think. I suspect that this team will probably take one or two steps (READ: games) backwards, but that really isn't going to impact them all that much in the long run. As these players develop, which will be an exciting thing to watch, we will see just how good this team is going to get. Ainge is pushing the envelope of acceptable practice for GM's day after day, and really making a positive impression on the league. I hope we can see the young'uns take steps, and the vets return to their proven form (Blount, anybody?). It should be a fun season if nothing else. A fun season that sets up a team that will in contention in two to three years. P.S. It's also great to see another real C's fan on here, I look forward to hearing more good stuff from you. Enjoy yourself here.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">We were going to lose Antoine anyway,'' said Celtic director of basketball operations Danny Ainge. ``He was going to sign for the midlevel (exception) with Miami if we didn't do a sign and trade with them. So we feel like we got the equivalent of three second-round picks and we created a $5.5 million trade exception, which is another real key asset to have. At the same time, Antoine's been a good Celtic. He's been a good soldier. It's good that he can get an opportunity to go and get paid what his value is.''</div> http://celtics.bostonherald.com/celtics/vi...articleid=96387 That explains everything, my friends.

I'm waiting with baited breath to see what happens next.
