West screwed up. I don't see the logic behind this at all. The West will have another playoff spot that a team could slip into. I'm thinking that Golden State will have the best chance of getting in, sorry Shape.[IMG] This trade really makes the East stronger. IMO, both conferences are pretty equal at the moment.

IMO this was a cap move.

Jones can still provide some offensive punch, and his contract is for 2 years longer. Which happens to be the same year that Yao/Amare's contracts come off the books, right?

He could waive Jones, not really tank the season, but have a Golden-State like season. Or maybe he's trying to move Pau Gasol somewhere, and needs some cap room. I don't really know, maybe he wants Warrick to have some more PT?

    PG: Jackson/Stoudamire
    SG: Miller/Jones
    SF: Jones/Warrick
    PF: Gas-hole/Warrick
    C: Wright?

I do not know that much about the Grizzlies, so bare with me here. Just my 2 cents.

I always thought of Jones as more of a 2 than 3, if the Griz really want to improve their defense they could start Jones at 2 and Battier at 3.

Just to clear two things up -

    1) Borchardt and Snyder were reportidely coming to Memphis in the Kings/Utah trade, so that is where I got that idea.
    2) According to the Utah fans I talked too, Raul Lopez will go back to Spain next season, so that is why I haven't mentioned him. If we do get him, I'm a little happier that we at least got a Point Guard in return, but it's still a Twardzick.

I slept on the trade last night, and I'm excited to see the veteran backcourt of Bobby Jackson and Eddie Jones. Whether they come off the bench for Earl Watson (more likely to resign now) and Mike Miller or are in the starting lineup next season, that's one hell of a backcourt rotation. Yes, it was a little pointless trading as much as we did for him, but I still think that we've got a strong enough lineup to make a run at the #8 seed, and I wouldn't go into total "rebuilding" mode. We still have Pau, we still have Battier, and we'll get something for Lorenzen Wright... hopefully a package for Magloire.

As of now, this is our lineup, and it's not too bad -

PG - Bobby Jackson/Earl Watson or Damon Stoudamire (?)
    SG - Mike Miller/Eddie Jones
    SF - Shane Battier/Hakim Warrick/Dahntay Jones
    PF - Pau Gasol/Brian Cardinal
    C - Lorenznen Wright/Jake Tsakalidis

The only position that doesn't have a solid backup is Center, and that hole was created by Swift's departure, not this trade. Hopefully we can sign a Dale Davis or Zaza Pachulia type player with the smaller of our cap exceptions this offseason.

Wow, that is an incredibly bad trade. Jones didn't get the chance to shine playing on a team with both Wade and Shaq, but it seemed like he hasnt done much the last couple years. add that to the fact that the griz are giving up younger guys for him, and I would be really mad if I were a Memphis fan.

Am I the only one who actually think it ain't a bad trade?
It seems like one but the Grizzlies are a deep team, guys like Shane Battier,Dahnaty Jones and Troy Bell will get more minutes than ever before thanks to this trade.
Im sure Jerry West wants to unleash their potential or he's just gone dumb.

Shane Battier was already a starter.

Dahntay Jones was going to have a 6th man role anyway, and got 33 minutes in a playoff game.

Troy Bell was cut a year ago.

And yes, Jerry West is quite dumb.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting 02civic:</div><div class="quote_post">Everyone needs to stop with the "pulled a Babcock" crap. Drafting one player...one...who didnt work out in his first year...but still could DOES NOT MAKE HIM WORTHY OF THIS AMOUNT OF RIDICULE. Trading away a pouter who wasnt going to try and his value was only getting worse, for help in the salary cap + 2 first round picks(Joey Graham so far) is not THAT bad of a trade. Oh sure you look at how Vince did afterwards with the Nets but Vince wasnt ever gunna do that again with the Raps, he was just going to keep jacking up crappy shots and sitting out fourth quarters.
And Lastly, there is NOTHING wrong with the Charlie draft choice...9/10 of you wouldnt even comment on it as being bad if it werent for ESPN hacks.
    End rant.

I should mention that the Grizz also got Raul Lopez...though it doesnt change the fact that this is a really really lobsided deal. This is the worst trade i've heard of in a while. In recent memory its ranking up there with the T-mac trade, the Mobley for Christie trade, and the Nazr for Malik and David Lee trade.</div>

Being called a "Babcock" is so yesterday, the new trend is "Twardzicked" or "Twardzdickery"

There are many interpretations of Twardzickery, but you can find all those definitions here ...

Lol, I hate to break it to you, but until the Raptors start winning, Babcock is going to be looked at as a big joke in the league. You don't have to come defend him everytime somebody pokes a little fun at him.

I just read the article on foxsports.com and I don't know if it was a typo or not but apparently Rasoul Butler is also coming to memphis with Eddie...That makes it a little easier to cope with...if and only if this is true! This is the first article that I have seen with Butler coming to Memphis.

I just read the article, and I'm pretty sure it said Rasual Butler is headed to New Orleans. Either way, it's not like it matters much. Rasual Butler is just another swingman that'd be rotting on our bench with Dahntay Jones.

One thing that I recently read kind of brightened my day a little. It seems like Raul Lopez just signed a contract with the team that Fran Vazquez will play for next season, but it's only a one year contract, and he may return after that.

Only to play for the first 15 games of the season and miss the rest of it because of a knee injury.

I dont have to no. But its just that when some people, the type that read something and accept it as fact without thinking about it, when they here someone refer to Babcock in that mannor they remember it. And then they start saying it, and then someone else does when its not true, its just the "popular" thing to say. There are alot of teams that havent been winning for along time, and these GM's have made some very questionable moves, but most people dont refer to them in the same manor. Hell i hear Babcock jokes 10x more often than Isiah jokes and that guy wins less games with twice the budget.
But i'll just let it go and when people see things were for the best they'll pretend like they knew it was the right move from the beginning.

This trade still sucks and i think West should be the new topic of ridicule though Twardzicked has a nice ring to it.

    ANTOINE WALKER ? MIAMI

Can do: Pass from the perimeter and the wing. Handle. Spin. Post-up on the left block. Hit an occasional 3. Look to score.

Can't do: Jump. Defend. Pass from the pivot. Differentiate between a good shot and a bad shot. Be an integral part of a winning team.

Must do: Play with discipline for the first time in his career. Be truly unselfish and not keep track of his own shots and his own playing time. Play a modicum of defense.

Prognosis: Will be forced to submit to Shaq's leadership. This is a good thing. But his dead legs, pitiful defense, and corrosive presence in the locker room will eventually make him a liability.

    JASON WILLIAMS ? MIAMI

Can do: Push the ball. Find a screen to use in transition. Handle (and change direction with ball) as well as anybody. Stop-and-pop. Hit 3s. See the court. Play passing lanes. Play brilliantly for short stretches. Keep both teams in the ball game.

Can't do: Play with patience. Forego risky, but spectacular passes in favor of safe, effective, simple passes. Sustain his concentration. Accept being a lesser option on offense. Do anything positive on defense if his gambling tactics fail.

Must do: Accept his new role as a facilitator. Play solid defense. Resist trying to turn every play into a high-light. Stop taking quick shots, especially when he's clearly in a dry spell. Play with consistency. Become an adult.

Prognosis: Shaq's gargantuan ego will subsume many of Williams' more childish tendencies. The guess here is that Williams will eventually get it and become a creative and productive point guard, thereby relieving Dwyane Wade of the primary ball-handling chores.

James Posey could turn out to be a hidden gem in this monster trade. (Chris Birck / Getty Images)

    JAMES POSEY ? MIAMI

Can do: Run the floor. Shoot with a quick release. Utilize pin-down action. Post-up (with up-and-under moves and turn-around-jumpers). Cut and slash. Spin right to left. Shoot well in spurts. Knock down treys. Accept the challenge on defense.

Can't do: Play with power. Pass. Make savvy decisions in transition.

Must do: Come to camp in game-shape. Check his ego at the door. Play hard all the time.

Prognosis: Posey is the sleeper for Miami. If he shows up with his body trim and his head screwed on tightly, he can be a monster off the bench at both wing positions.

    EDDIE JONES ? MEMPHIS

Can do: Shoot a high-percentage when feet are set. Drives right and pulls left. Spin baseline on baseline moves. Uses screens to great advantage. Moves well without ball. Post on left block for fade away baseline jumpers. Shoot free throws. Feed the pivot. Play pressure defense looking for steals.

Can't do: Play post-up defense. Play solid, non-gambling defense on perimeter. Shoot consistently in clutch situations.

Must do: Be a leader and a go-to scorer.

Prognosis: The Grizz will discover, sooner rather than later, that the stud they traded for can't bear the weight.

    GREG OSTERTAG ? UTAH

Can do: Block shots. Be aggressive on offensive boards. Posts on both blocks where he'll turn baseline or shoot jump hook. Takes up space.

Can't do: Make free throws. Make layups. Stay out of foul trouble. Resist biting on any kind of up-fake. Run. Shoot when facing hoop.

Must do: Visit the Wizard of Oz for a brain, a heart, and a useable pair of hands.

Prognosis: Without a center, Utah will never win the opening tip-off.

    RASUAL BUTLER ? MEMPHIS

Can do: Shoot a turnaround jumper over his right shoulder. Drive and finish. Drive and draw contact. Bury pull-up jumpers and 3-balls

Can't do: Play defense. Pass. Take care of the ball. Hold his own against physical players.

Must do: Shoot a high-percentage off the bench. Broaden his court vision.

Prognosis: A one-dimensional player. His playing time will be an accurate measure of how good (scanty minutes) or how bad (mucho minutes) Memphis will be.

    CURTIS BORCHARDT ? BOSTON

Can do: Hustle. Make good passes from the high post. Screen-and-pop. Rarely miss 15-foot jumpers. Jump on the offensive boards. Block shots. Turn his left shoulder for jump hooks in the pivot.

Can't do: Finish around the basket. Stand up to power players. Defend.

Must do: Make sure his sneaker laces are properly tied. Comb his hair. Applaud his teammates' good plays. Shower before the game so as to avoid the post-game rush.

Prognosis: He's too soft and too dorky to do anything but play in emergencies.

Curtis Borchardt will likely provide more moral support for his new Celtics teammates than points on the court. (Kent Horner / Getty Images)

    QYNTEL WOODS ? BOSTON

Can do: Always look to score. Slash to basket without the ball. Run the floor. Hit spot-shots from beyond the arc. Shoot turnaround jumpers over left shoulder in the post.

Can't do: Pass. Put the ball on the floor. Defend. Be aggressive on defensive boards. Make free throws. Act like a grown-up.

Must do: Prove that he has the maturity to play in the league.

Prognosis: If he does make the roster, will be strictly a bench-warmer. Let him run amok for a few minutes and see what happens

THIS IS WHAT I AM SEE WHEN I LOOK AT IT...IT DOES HAVE BUTLER TO MEMPHIS
