<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">L.A. Daily News - Portland Trail Blazers guard Derek Anderson, a likely casualty of the NBA's luxury-tax amnesty provision, has emerged as a leading free-agent candidate to sign with the Lakers, sources said Tuesday.

Anderson, who is under contract to Portland for two more years and $18.8 million, could be released as early as today. The deadline for teams to take advantage of the provision, part of the league's new collective bargaining agreement, is Aug. 15.

With the NBA's moratorium period on player movement ending Tuesday morning, the Lakers also officially acquired Kwame Brown in a sign-and-trade deal with the Washington Wizards . Brown, the No. 1 overall pick in 2001, and the Lakers face the Wizards on Dec. 26.

The Lakers also signed guard Smush Parker, who will get the chance to make the team out of training camp.</div>

I've been plenty of Blazers games because I work at the rosegarden in Portland and have seen DA play plenty. When he's healthy he's damn good, clutch, and can handle the ball really well despite being tall. He'd be a good PG, though not a true PG, he fits Phils description of the PG position. I think this would be a great fit for the triangle and the lakers.

Well, who would you rather have as your starting PG, Anderson or Vujacic?

Exactly, he's a good scorer, he's ok with the assists and quite a good rebounder for a PG. He has a good FT% but his FG% could go up a bit. Apart from that, he's good. Phil's type of PG with his 6-5 height. If he can drop
15-4-4 with decent defence, it would be great for us. Hopefully with Lamar and Kwame also scoring 15 and Kobe dropping 25+ we should be a nice playoff team.

Derek Anderson fits the description to a T for the Lakers at PG.

    -Description Requirements-

[imgl]http://scd.mm-b1.yimg.com/image/611410722[/imgl] Tall & Athletic - Anderson stands 6'5 and has an above average vert. (see pic)

Veteran Leadership - Derek Anderson has been in the 'L' for 8 years

Triple Threat - Derek Anderson has a career avg. of 13PPG 3.7APG 3.4RPG

3-Pt Range - Derek Anderson shot 38.4% from down-town last year

Hungry Vet - Derek Anderson has a point to prove after falling out of favor in Portland

Good FT Shooter - Derek Anderson is a career 85.4% FT shooter

Defense - This is the only question mark, because he's been inconsistent at defense. However, Phil Jackson did wonders for Ron Harper's defense and Brian Shaw. Derek Anderson has all the tools and physical gifts to be a lock down defender. He just needs to buy into PJax's philosophy.

Catchy Nickname - Harp, BShaw, DFish, all had great short nicknames, Derek Anderson is known as 'the DA'

He is seriously injury prone though. Even if they do sign him, they don't really have a good backup.

Yes he has spent a lot of time on the bench being injured. However, nagging injuries tend to disappear when teams are winning, and a player is in a positive environment. Those two variables remain to be seen, but I have a feeling if the Lakers are winning and DA excepts his role on the team, he will have a injury-free season.

I'm confident with Smush Parker and Sasha Vujacic as the backups for the time being.

I don't see how winning or losing effects injuries. Tim Duncan the past 2 seasons has had serious injuries, Shaq was often injured when he was in LA. They were both in positive environments. I could name more, but winning or losing doesn't effect injuries unless players are faking when they are losing which would be ridiculous.

Well wait, I think that aquiring Derek Anderson from the Blazers this offseason would be a great fit for this Laker team, but I thought that both DA and Nick "The Quick" Van Exel were being released by Portland today. My question is, why can't we sign both of them, have VAn Exel start for us at the point, and have Anderson be our sixth man, filling in for Exel at the point and also subbing for Kobe for a few minutes to give him some rest. This way, Both Van Exel and Anderson get their share of minutes and we have solved our starting and back up PG problems. I think that would be awsome!!

Yes it is ridiculous, but it does happen. Also teams report fake injuries to keep players on their IL spots. This was the main reason the league expanded the rosters to 14 this year with only one IL spot. This way teams don't have to report fake injuries and have un-injured players on the injured list.

Scotty Mo - I agree adding BOTH would be awesome. I'm not sure if NVE would enjoy playing in the Triangle though. He's always enjoyed playing on an uptempo offense and I expect him to go to a team like the Suns, Nuggets, or his all-time favorite, the Mavs.

Well, still, I don't see how winning or losing affects REAL injuries especially since DA will be coming to LA who don't have a great team and chances are slim they make the playoffs anyway.

I'd take the gamble. Sign him with the MLE, and if we can sign NVE with part of it,I say go for it!

^^ Phil Jackson placed Ron Harper at PG for, what the last 3 bulls championships and up until that point i'm pretty sure he hadn't played the point. In Cleveland he played SG and Mark Price played the point so the PG in the triangle isn't your prototypical PG. The way the offense is ran Kobe and Lamar will probably take the ball downcourt just as much if not more than DA (if he's signed).
