It's being reported on ESPNews right now..something about his knees not holding up... This sucks...should the Nets take a chance? Given our record with injury risks in the past such as Mourning, Mercer, etc... it might not be a good choice. I hope to hear more about it throughout the day.
Does the trade still go through then? I heard if players don't pass their physicals, than the trade is voided or something.
Gah... this better not be happening... I PRAY that the trade'll go through... On the other hand, if his knees are that much of a liability, then i don't know if i'd really want him. I don't want another "Zo situation" to happen to us.
Thats really messed up. Every Nets fan was excited that we got him but now this is may be a problem which really sucks.
oucch that would really be bad for nets fans..as playmaker stated that puts less of a margin between you guys and the number 2 team in the atlantic.
Since SAR failed the physical, the Nets have a choice of either taking the trade or not.. Mourning wouldn't have passed the physical few years back but the Nets took the risk anyway.. It's up to management now to decide whether SAR is worth the risk or not.
We should take him. Its not like we can trade him for a really good PF if he failed the physical. We really dont have choice.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Shareef Abdur-Rahim Trade on Hold During the course of the normal physical examination taken by forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim on Wednesday, August 3, 2005, to complete the trade, a question arose concerning a portion of the testing. The Nets are currently in the process of seeking other medical opinions, and until further notice, the trade with Portland for Abdur-Rahim has been put on hold. As a result of this development, the Nets have cancelled today?s scheduled press conference to announce the team?s free agent signings.</div> From www.nba.com/nets I can see Ratner not wanting to pay a guy 5-6 million and a bunch of medical bills ontop of that and still not being able to play. They need to examine Shareef throughly before making a decision.. I hope its not serious but if we have another Deke situation where he's gone after a few games then it's not worth it.
That's gotta suck, IMO Sharif was going to be a big part of this team. Now J-Kidd, VC, and RJ will have 2 carry them, yet again this year.
What!!! This is the most surprising thing that I have heard since the Carter trade. SAR was playing well at the end of last season, he was not hurt towards the end. What in the world could he have done to mess up his knees all of a sudden. I sure hope that that physical turns out to be a fluke and a mere symptom of flying in an airplane (after a flight my joints usually tighten up. I am going to do some reasearch on SAR injury history and report back. EDIT: I found nothing concerning his knees. Last year he was out for a long time due to elbow surgery.
Honestly, I dont like it but the Nets have no other realistic choice but to take the risk...without Rahim in a Nets jersey that takes them out of the legitimate Eastern Conference picture. And I dont think Rod Thorn & the front office want to do that...they have made to many other moves around this one to secure a chance come playoff time. So they probably are going to bite the bullet and go on with the deal at some point. One think I think this puts an emphasis on is our futher need to add some frontcourt depth.....
They have not officially said what the injury is, but I think the elbow problem is a good guess. This is a tough call, because the deal is for 6 years at $38Million for SAR, if it were just a 1 or 2 year deal I'd take the risk, but 6 years is a lot to swallow, if SAR is going to be constantly injured. The options are limited at this point for the Nets, and they have to do something, especially since the Heat pulled off that blockbuster deal. Losing Reef puts the Nets in the 2nd Tier logjam in the East, instead of one of the top four locks in the East alongside Miami, Detroit, and Indy. I don't envy having to make this decision.
