<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Joe Johnson isn?t an Atlanta Hawk. He should be, he wants to be, but for some odd reason ownership hasn?t signed off on the deal. I should say, more specifically, Steve Belkin hasn?t signed off.

If you didn?t know already, the Hawks are owned by a group of businessmen who call themselves the ?Atlanta Spirit LLC?. There?s no majority owner (i.e. someone who owns 51% or more shares) but Belkin owns the largest share for an individual (30%). He?s an active member on the ?ownership committee? which has the ultimate power when it comes to free agent signings, trades, etc.

Every member on the committee has agreed to acquiring Joe Johnson except for Belkin; and since a unanimous decision is necessary to complete the transaction, we?re stuck in limo.

Let's not jump on Belkin just yet, he might be making a brilliant decision by making the Suns sweat this out. Maybe he realizes he actually does not have to give up anything to get Joe Johnson, because the Suns simply cannot afford him. So why give up two first round picks and Diaw? He might just be playing hardball to get a sweeter deal for the Hawks.

The Hawks are already risking a lot by signing JJ to a $70M deal, and on top of that they have to also give up 3 players for him? That's a tough decision to simply rush into. Maybe he also has some other deals pending he wants to close before he breaks the bank on JJ.

As a fan it's frustrating, but these owners didn't get to where they are because they made stupid decisions out of desperation and impatience.

You have to ask yourself, is JJ a franchise player? Is he really worth a max deal + 3 young players? If he doesn't work out what other options do I have? What can I get for Al Harrington? Who is going to play Center next season?

joe johnson could be considered a franchise player...he has a dangerously accurate shot and is a good defender...as for other options...will the joshes and marvin do?

Wow. I've been critical of most of the moves the Hawks have made lately, and now this? I'm sorry guys, but that team's brain trust has some major problems. Hopefully they can iron out their problems and get back to the team, because the Hawks could easily be on the rise, if the big boys quit bickering and get their stuff together.

I cannot believe the extent Belkins went to prevent this deal from taking place.

Belkin is the kid who brings the only basketball to a court, loses in a pick up game, and then takes his ball and leaves because he lost.

But, yeah he is being a complete ass if you ask me. I mean, here it is: Our Franchise Player right here in the palm of our hands, he wants to come. But, Belkin is like well I want the attention. This is awesome, Linda Cohn is interviewing me. I like this holding out thing. It's useless to even start griping on him because he knows what he is doing.

This is just a complete lowblow. What is the man thinking sueing his business partners.

Although I feel the Hawks are giving up too much for JJ, they are in need of help and draft picks aren't going to do much for an already very young team. I don't think Belkin knows what he is doing at all. What a bum.

Belkin has to realize the consequences that may come from this decision...if JJ does not end up in Atlanta, he is pretty much scarring the franchise...fan interest will drop and lose faith (even moreso) in the team, plus future free agents will remember this ordeal and not even negotiate with the Hawks altogether...

I'm not even an Hawks fan....I don't think anyone outside the ATL is, but this is pissing me off. It's a shame to see an entire franchise get embarrased and losing value because one man is so selfish. Like previosly stated FA's in the future will be hesitant to deal with the Hawks, fans are going to feel alienated as well. They HAVE to get JJ somehow now, because if they don't....there is going to be uproar in Pheonix, Atlanta, and the Media. David Stern can't be liking this either.

wow , this guy pbviously doesn't care about the direction this franchise is goingb in. Why not just sell his share in the team and end this on good terms.
