This summer, the Heat could have been content to sit back, re-sign their own free agents and take another stab at advancing to the Finals after falling only minutes short in Game 7 of last season's Eastern Conference Finals against Detroit. Yet on Tuesday, the Heat put its stamp on the largest trade to ever go down in NBA history, adding even more talent to an already solid roster.

Nobody could have found fault with the team re-assembling last year's squad; after all, the Heat managed to win an East-best 59 wins last season -- a mark bettered only by Phoenix.

Had the Heat only re-signed Udonis Haslem, one of its top offseason priorities, the move would have been welcomed on South Beach as a conservative, yet wise, measure. The Miami native, who nearly averaged a double-double for the season last year, was believed to have wanted to play for the Heat so badly he was willing to sign with the team for less money than he could have commanded on the open market.

    Ditto for Mr. O'Neal. </div>
