''I want Zo back badly,'' Riley said. The Heat also has interest in re-signing Christian Laettner and Shandon Anderson, Riley said." Miami Herald "Riley said the Heat has agreed to a contract with Earl Barron, the former University of Memphis center who excelled for Miami's summer-league team. ''He was the best kid in all of the summer league at center,'' Riley said." Miami Herald "To Pat Riley, this wasn't a radical makeover of the Heat, nor was it a desperate shot at a championship this season. Instead, the Heat president said the trade that brought three potential starters to the Heat and will significantly alter the look of the team was the kind of plan he's envisioned since Shaquille O'Neal arrived last summer. Riley didn't get to build the kind of team he wanted then. The Heat put a team together "on the fly," loading it with perimeter shooters to go around O'Neal, and made a run to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals." South Florida Sun-Sentinel "The Heat will have at least one new starter, with Williams replacing free agent Damon Jones at point guard. Walker or Posey also could end up starting, but Van Gundy and Riley weren't ready to get into specifics about their roles because the Heat isn't done adding players." South Florida Sun-Sentinel "The Heat, which Riley said is $7 million under the tax threshold, also needs a backup point guard. Riley said he still wants to bring back Damon Jones, but Jones is mulling an offer from Cleveland, where he would have a better chance of starting." South Florida Sun-Sentinel "Riley said the Heat would "definitely" wait until Aug. 15 to make any major signings. That's the deadline for teams to release players and gain relief from the luxury tax." South Florida Sun-Sentinel</div> GOOO HEEEAAAAT
Nice to see the HEat pick up Earl Barron. He really tore it up during the summer league games. Ridiculous numbers.
Seems Brian Grant may be returning to Miami. One would think the Heat are loading up to face Shaq with all the big men they will likely have on their roster soon. If Grant is healthly he would be a good signing and in the process will make the trade with L.A last year look even worse.
