<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Best Kept Secret:</div><div class="quote_post">I don?t buy that, because if that were the case no one would be offering the Mavericks trades for Finley since they know unless the Mavs get a offer they are going to drop him. The Mavericks stated that they were interested in acquiring expiring contracts for Mike as soon as it was discovered they wanted to trade him. We had two of those Cato and Christie. I don?t know guess it was just wishful thinking, but guess they must have wanted some compensation as well, and not just cap relief.</div>
Well Finley and Christie are entirely different players. Michael Finley is still a consistent scorer who can make an impact for a team. Finley can still score 15 PPG if he is given the chance and has more value then Doug Christie.

Christie isn't an offensive threat and his age might start to slow down his good defense. He spent a lot of last year with the Magic injured and when he was playing he didn't do all that great which is probably another reason team's aren't interested in him.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Coranor:</div><div class="quote_post">No Gator, you're wrong, we still have to pay him his contract, we only don't have to pay the luxury tax of it. It also still effects the salary cap. Basically, this only saves RDV money which he would've had to pay to the NBA for being over the luxury threshold.

I've got the slight feeling that some people just want to read their own posts and don't care for what has already been said or what's being said about this topic later on...

Which is a pity because I thought that's what a forum is all about...
    [/offtopic]</div>
I like you, and agree with you.

Anyway... Let me clarify for some people
    A) We are saving money by releasing Christie; we were way over the luxury tax threshold, so technically, we would have had to pay DOUBLE Christie's contract. This way we only have to pay 1x the amount. There is a dollar for dollar tax for teams once they exceed the threshold.

[IMG] The Christie/Cato for Finley deal was squashed for several reasons. Finley's got 3 years and 52 million left on his contract... Those numbers aren't helping our cause AT ALL. Also, more importantly, our front line is bare enough as it is. We get rid of Cato, and who do we have in our frontcourt? Battie, Howard, Kasun?? Yeah, that's going to take us really far.

    Thanks man.

Also thanks for clarifying this in more detail. But let me one more thing to B:

Finley is expensive and his contract is too long, would it be only another two years left on it so that it expires together with G. Hill's than it would make much more sense.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Best Kept Secret:</div><div class="quote_post">I don?t buy that, because if that were the case no one would be offering the Mavericks trades for Finley since they know unless the Mavs get a offer they are going to drop him. Swish mentioned already a few things but let me also add some stuff here:

Dallas made it clear that they don't consider waiving Finley because they don't want that he's picked up by a West team. They made it clear that they either trade him to an Eastern team or stick with him. Now whether they really do this doesn't matter, it makes at least sense.

Now, I think Otis Smith wanted to create the same "atmosphere" when he said that they don't intend to waive DC. But no one bought it because everyone knows DC's history with us and DC himself said he wants out.

P.S. Sorry guys, my English sucks at the moment and I just don't know why (no I'm not drunk). So if you find any error or have any suggestion on how to write it better, please PM me.

That's another good point. Every team knew Christie was disgruntled and wanted out which is different from the Finley situation. It was almost certain DC wasn't going to be in Orlando next season where as Finley still may stay in Dallas.

Boy, it's mentioned in the article at the beginning of this thread and already twice within this thread that management tried to trade him but nobody wants him.

Read the whole thread for more explanations, it's not that long...

But hey, it's a great one-liner and very usable these days just to throw in...

Teams prob. did want him its just his contract they didnt want. We could have gotten Finley in a trade with the mavs but instead of paying 15mil or whatever he gets paid we could wait for him to be wavied and pay him less just like other teams are doing with all clausers.

Rick Fox got sucker punched then Mrs.Christie was hitting him on the way to the locker room very quick fight but funny.

    It's official

While it still wasn't official when this article was first published, it is now:

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Magic waive Doug Christie

The Orlando Magic have waived disgruntled guard Doug Christie per terms of the NBA's amnesty rule in the league's new collective bargaining agreement.

Christie still must be paid the $8.2 million he is owed in the final year of his contract, but he will be allowed to re-sign with another team. Franchises exceeding the tax threshold ($61.7 million this season) must pay a dollar-for-dollar tax to the league.
    </div>

    Full Article

I was still hoping that we might be able to trade him, but apparently no one wanted him.

For more information about the situation, please read this thread!

Thanks for the info Coranor. It sucks that we couldn't get anything for him but at least he is no longer a distraction that gets in the way of the team.

The Magic always had bad luck since the sweep against the Rockets. Shaq left for nothing. Now they get nothing for Mobley.

The Magic were actually a team i really liked back when Hill was coach. Penny, Shaq, Grant, Scott, and Anderson. That was a lethal starting five.. It was the 95 finals if I remember correctly? I had money on them and they lost to Houston in 4 so I had to pay double!!! DAMMIT!
