<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA banned the use of American Indian mascots by sports teams during its postseason tournaments, but will not prohibit them otherwise. The NCAA's executive committee decided this week the organization did not have the authority to bar Indian mascots by individual schools, committee chairman Walter Harrison said Friday. Nicknames or mascots deemed "hostile or abusive" would not be allowed on team uniforms or other clothing beginning with any NCAA tournament after Feb. 1, said Harrison, the University of Hartford's president. </div> Source Interesting. This mainly effects the Illinois Illini, Utah Utes, and Florida State Seminoles but there are a few other small schools involved.
That's stupid. "You're allowed to use indian mascots during the regular season, but when it comes to the post-season, they're gone!"
About time. Other names that offend me - George Washington Colonials Army Black Knights Holy Cross Crusaders Navy Midshipmen Indiana Hoosiers Ole Miss Rebels West Virginia Mountaineers From now on, I think colleges should be restricted to only non-human being nicknames... IE the Badgers, the Huskies, the Longhorns. Someone is bound to be offended otherwise.

Especially after this, someone is bound to go I am offended by the Utah Utes and probably try to sue the NCAA or the Utes.
