Vladimir Radmanovic: "My status on the team improves with Weiss"

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Other than certain financial considerations, an equally important factor for you is also whether you are going to be a starter or not. How much do you feel that Seattle will be accommodating regarding this issue?

VR: I think that the situation regarding me being a starter in Seattle changed considerably in the last few months. Simple reason for that is that Nate McMillan is not a coach here anymore. By promoting Bob Weiss as a new head coach, the Sonics? management actually improved my team status substantially. I think I really have a very good relationship with coach Weiss. He has a somewhat different approach to the game of basketball than coach McMillan. Nate thought that it was good for our club that I come in from the bench, but still to play 30 minutes or so per game, as a regular starter. I?m meeting coach Weiss on Thursday, and that?s when I will know where I stand regarding this issue.</div>

Looks like another player glad to see the back of Nate.

I hate player egos and player agents, I really do. Vlad's carved out a real niche for himself as one of the league's leading 6th man and still plays 30 minutes a night, but it seems this isn't good enough.

I have no problem with Vlad wanting to start, but he'd better learn how to defend the post. Also means we likely can't start Pot too, because that would leave us without a rebounder on the court.

It seems he wants to be Dirk, but Dirk still grabs 10 boards and can block a couple of shots.

I guess National Team basketball is more of a team sport than NBA ball [IMG]

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">However, basketball is a team sport, and we have won all these World Championship titles in the last six years because we had such a special team chemistry and atmosphere both throughout the preparation period and the championships themselves. That is why I am prepared to be whatever our National Team coach Zelimir Obradovic wants me to be in the National Team. Whether I?m a leader, or if I play two minutes per match doesn?t matter to me at all. Compared to some of the coaches I had opportunity to work with here in the NBA, Obradovic is the master of his domain. With still a very good pool of players and an excellent coaching staff, I think that all pieces are in place for us to make a result the whole nation would be proud of.</div>

Didn't he get benched/kicked off the national team a while ago for arguing with the coach?

I'm glad that while he wants us to pay him 50 million to start, he claims he'll be happy to play just two minutes a game for Serbia.

He was complaining about his minutes/role on the national team in the 2002 World Championships in Indianapolis and he was kicked off of the team. They were going to keep him off of the roster permanently but he and the national team coach reconciled before last Olympics.

What's interesting though was he was givien a limited role in Indy and Serbia won the World Championships and he was given a primary role in the Olympics and they didn't qualify for the mdeal round. Something tells me that you are not going to see Vlad putting up big numbers in the European Championships. His style of play is too "American" for the basketball purist out there.

Hopefully we see a resurgence from the one and only Dejan Bodiroga. He is still my favorite player not playing in the league despite the fact that he is getting up there in age. Then again, I can't forget to give a shout out to the Ron Paul--hold your head you get out in November.
