if the rockets are number two in the western conference how come they arent even in the top 8 teams in the league? and New jersey top three in the league?

i've been saying this for years, the east is notorious for having the better all around players, VC, AI, shaq, etc. but the west always ends up with the best teams. im not sayingthe west doesn't have superstars but it is alot easier to win in the east with one superstar and some role players. In the west you need alot more to be a legitimate contender. This is why the all star games aren't one sided as much anymore.
After looking at your rankings I'm wondering if it is possible for so many teams to be over .500. In any case your rankings arent really in agreement with the consensus. I doubt the Lakers will be better than the Warriors and Kings (assuming they get some depth and a PF). I dont predict the Grizz winning 50, Lebron isn't going to put up 30 ppg with Hughes and Marshal in addition to Big Z on his team, I wouldn't sleep on the bucks they can win 50, I predict Seattle only winning 35 games after the loss of James, Flip, and Evans. I definitely wouldn't sleep on the Jazz either they are good for 50 wins barring no injuries, the Nets wont win more than 55 with or without SAR, and for the record I believe Larry Hughes was the Wizard's SG not PG.
There is NO WAY the East has surpassed or is even level with the West. The East has some real powerhouses in Miami, Detrioit, and Possibly Indiana, but those 2 teams are not the entire conference. Right after those 3 teams, most of theo ther teams are very debatable. There is alot of talk about NJ, but we haven't seen this new NJ team in action, so they might be a bust. And Wizards and Bulls are always iffy teams. As for the west, their only real super powerhouse is the Spurs, but there are alot more strong teams throughout the entire conference. The Texas triangle has never been so strong. SA, Dallas, and Houston may have the 3 of the 4 highest records in the West next season. Then you have Phoenix with a breakout year, and Denver who have put evrything together with Coach Karl. Memphis will also look to be in the Playoffs, and there will be a real dog fight between Lakers, Clippes, Wolves, Seattle for the last few spots of the playoffs. If you put those teams in the east, they cold possibly make 6th seed.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Run BJM:</div><div class="quote_post">for the record I believe Larry Hughes was the Wizard's SG not PG.</div> Nope... PG Hughes, SG ARENAS, SF Jamison, PF Brown, C Haywood...
Yea I too also believed that Arenas was the PG and Hughes was the SG. I know that Hughes can switch, but I always thought that Arenas has ALWAYS palyed PG.
First off, welcome to JustBBall. Interesting rankings, I would agree the Nets are too, high at #2, since the Reef deal has been held up, and the fact Reef has a serious knee problem. The Nets should drop a few notches with or without Reef at this point. Even though I'm a fan of the Lakers, I just don't see them as a top 8 seed in the West. For starters, they have no depth at PG, and there are too, many questions marks surrounding the team. It's going to take at least one year of learning before the team is comfortable running the Triangle and building team chemistry. There's little chance the Lakers are better than the Kings, unless the Kings have another injury-plagued season. Right now I think the Lakers are closer to finishing last in the Pacific, than making the playoffs. I'd also put the Knicks in the same boat as the Lakers. They added the best teacher in the game, but it's going to take time for the team to adjust to Larry Brown and vice versa. There should be no question which conference is stronger, it's still the West. The East has become stronger with this off-season, but overall the West is still dominant.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The East has some real powerhouses in Miami, Detrioit, and Possibly Indiana, </div> I agree. I think that the West has more talented players and teams. I would have 2 go with the West.
I've got to say that the West is still a bit ahead of the East, but the East has made phenomenal strides the last couple years. I remember in like 2003 people were saying stuff like 'will the East ever catch up again?' Well, they're closing fast, so I guess we're well on our way to answering that. However, I think that the depth of the West is better than the East's. You've got San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Memphis, Denver, Utah, Seattle, Sacto, Phoenix and probably Golden State who are going to be fighting for the playoff spots next year. That's 10 legit teams for 8 spots. While the East has high quality at the top, with Detroit, Indiana, Miami and New Jersey, but there's far more of a middle class in the East than the West.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting dakeem1:</div><div class="quote_post"> The East has some real powerhouses in Miami, Detrioit, and Possibly Indiana</div> I'm sorry but i think its pretty safe to say Indiana is a definate powerhouse. I think its going to be Indiana or Heat in the finals, no question about it.
The west have more depth in quailty. The west have 10 teams who are playoff quailty while the east have 3 elite teams and a team in the Nets where It is debatable how good they could become depending on the SAR situation. But apart from them the lower level of the east aren't on the level of the lower tier of the west. The Spurs are right now head and shoulders above everyone in the west with JJ looking set on going to Atlanta. Houston seem the biggest threat to the Spurs but they to me a 1 more year away from contending for winning a title. Depends on If they get NVE, they could really contend this year. That of course depends how much Nick can give a team at his age. He can still play and would be a very dangerous player in the playoffs. They will be a 55 win team most likely. Dallas should also win 50 games but Miami, Detroit and Indiana are all better than everyone in the west but San Antonio. The west have deeper good teams but the east have more teams who are truely elite.

Phoenix won't be as good either I'd put Denver or Houston ahead of them maybe even Indiana who is better than Detroit.
