Maybe we can get Ben Wallace type play out of this guy. When you think about it, that isn't too hard to do. Make hustle plays, block shots, and grab rebounds. I think this Gai dude could be capable of that.

I got to say I like this signing a lot more than Shavlik. Unlike Shavlik this guy did not ?underachieve?. However, since he played for a relatively small school he was over looked in the draft. He is an incredible shot blocker averaging 5.5 blocks his senior year. He is also a really good rebounder for a 6?9? guy averaging seven rebounds during his college career. I view this guy as a huge steal to sign at the minimum. If he gets playing time, which I am sure he will due to his defensive abilities, he will quickly work himself into the lineup.
well, IMO, he seems sort of like another samuel dalembert. he still is very raw, but he is still a great shot blocker. i would use him as a third string center. he seems like a guy who will get into foul trouble early. i hope he developes to be a steal.

I don't think he is any Ben Wallace now.

For now he should play PF and if he turns out to be that amazing defense force like Wallace the Sixers can move him to center.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Best Kept Secret:</div><div class="quote_post">A 6'9" center? I found that out like a year ago and was surpised. With Ben's presence on the defensive end he seems like he could be 7'3.

I?m saying I don?t see Gai having the same type of impact that Wallace did to play center in this league. Though both are undrafted, and when coming into the league had the reputation as good defenders and shot blockers. It took Wallace a while to develop into the player he is now(look at his early days with the Magic). Deng only has a one-year deal so he will likely play power forward/small forward for the majority of the time he is on the court.

I mean who else do we have? Unless the 76ers sign someone worth having on an active roster it looks like Deng might have to fill in that spot.
^ yeah, i guess you guys are right. i just thought that with his shot blocking ability, he could help us protrole the paint. but yes, from what you guys have said, it does seem like he is better of playing power forward.
