Duhon would be great for your team. he plays great defense and is unselfish. He would get the ball to Rose and Bosh. He can aslo knock down the open 3.

So i think we could spent all the MLE we have left on Duhon because it's one time option to close the PG position for a couple of years...
And right now there is no Center on the free agents market that we can really sign him... so we may spend it all on a very good point guard.

the misery of being a raptor fan, while other eastern teams were making trades and picking up star free agents..u know with their gm's actively trying to get better-WE, the raptor fans have to get excited about a dude that can't hit a jump shot to save his fringe nba career.

He struggled with his jumper in the beginning of the season, but he gradually got better as the season progressed.

The downside to using your entire MLE is not being able to use the 'Gilbert Arenas' Rule next summer. This rule was enstated to protect teams from losing their second round picks. For example, if Uros Slokar has a promising year, the Raptors might not be able to re-sign him, but if they have their MLE, then they could use the Gilbert Arenas Rule to use that on Slokar and prevent him from leaving.

Maybe it doesn't apply much here since Slokar is involved, but this could become a problem in the future if Ukic comes over.

Well, we have expiring contracts, plus, Rose and Mournings' contracts (I think we still have to pay Mourning, could someone verify this for me?) will be off the books saving us a lot of cap room. Rose alone will clear about 15 Million.

Well, Slokar isn't coming over until at least next summer, and same goes to Ukic. MLE isn't like LLE, and can be used on consecutive seasons as long as the team is over the salary cap.

The expiring contracts of Eric Williams, Aaron Williams and Lamond Murray will give some financial wiggle room next summer, and we will have even more wiggle room once Rose and Mourning comes off the book the year after.

Oh well, shouldn't get too excited anyway. Paxson says he is going to dig into the MLE and match the offer anyway.

Too bad, we could use a guy like Duhon to compete against Rafer for minutes and such, so Rafer probably won't have clashes with Sam anymore.

Isn't Alvin Williams' contract coming off the books this season too? or next season?

We'll just have to wait and see on the 15th. There's 50/50 chance that the Bulls match, and it will depend on their other free agent situations, like signing Eddie Basden, Malik Allen and Othella Harrington. If they do match, we can then go after Jay Williams or Jannero Pargo, because the Bulls won't have any money left over to make an offer outside of the league minimum to them.

I think Pargo won't be that bad for the Raptors this year. He says he just wasn't ready when we first signed him to a week contract or whatever but now he has proven himself. So maybe we can get him for a minimum contract or so.

I'm not too keen on Pargo. (Although he was sick in the Steve Nash Charity Game [IMG]) And besides, I doubt the Raps could get him for the league minimum, as other teams will probably offer more to attain his services.

I remember when he was with the Raptors a couple of seasons ago, he crossed over Brian Scalibrine (I think) and made him fall.

I remember that too [IMG] I almost felt bad for Scalabrine.

Definately would not want Pargo back. What's this thing about giving point guards a chance and them letting them go to another team only to sign them for more money than they could have originally signed them for?

Happened with Alston, don't want to happen with Pargo too. Why can't we ever get a decent point guard to lead this team?

Bulls Go After Grant, Sam Smith made HIS decision

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Daily Herald - The Bulls are making a serious recruiting pitch to former Los Angeles Lakers power forward Brian Grant.
Both general manager John Paxson and coach Scott Skiles spoke to Grant by phone Wednesday evening, just hours after the 33-year-old was waived by the Lakers under the NBA?s new amnesty rule. </div>

If Bulls get Grant, we get Duhon for sure.

Duhon is a nice player to have on your team: tough minded, a leader, defense-oriented. But the longer he's around the Bulls, the longer Kirk Hinrich has to play out of position at shooting guard and Ben Gordon remains on the bench. Plus, signing Duhon under the new labor agreement leaves the team without much flexibility.

It's the so-called Gilbert Arenas rule. He was a second-round pick whom the Warriors had to let go because they couldn't get under the salary cap to pay him. Now second-round picks who become free agents can be paid by using the team's salary cap exception. If the Bulls match, they'll have less than half their exception left.</div>

His points do make some sense, He knows what he's talking about.

That's a good news. I already pointed out the fact in the Bulls forum that Paxson should not match the offer because that will not allow them to use the 'Gilbert Arenas' rule on their second round picks.
