Wow, this is a real turn of events. I really thought the deal with SAR was gonna go through, I'm very disappointed. I don't see Marc Jackson doing any bette rthan SAR was going to. This is a big disappointment to me as a Nets fan.. Anybody have any positive feedback on this?
Well, Marc Jackson is a big-bodied rebounder with decent low-post moves. It's not a bad deal, but it puts you guys in a situation where your frontcourt would be mismatched against some of the quicker frontcourts in the NBA because Marc Jackson or Jason Collins would start at the PF spot.

He's going to go after a legit 4 to start like Reggie Evans, Gooden, possibly Wilcox, or possibly someone unexpected.

Their trade exception is gone, as is half of the MLE, and their most valuable asset tradeable at this moment is Zoran Planinic. I wonder if Rod Thorn explored the option of trading the exception and a pick for Drew Gooden.
man we are toast! can this get any worst! if you gona compare SAR to JAckson its like comparing 2 Plane ticket, 1 is First class and the other is Economy! Jackson is definitly an upgrade from collins but WAY DOWN grade from SAR! but i think thorn still have something left on his bag of tricks. but this trade really happend so quickly! who would have though of this in the begining
Pretending like SAR wasn't even supposed to come here, I think it's a solid signing. I'm sold on his abilities when i watched a couple of the Sixers games. If we don't sign another big (which we probably will), then i'd see Jackson starting at the 5 and Krstic at the 4.

Jackson at the 5 is a better matchup for opposing teams. Krstic is quicker than him, and significantly leaner. M-Jax is a bigger body, and he could bang down low better than Krstic.

We didnt even want to give him to Portland to acquire Rahim before the whole scar tissue deal. The Nets see something special in him for the future. I dont know anything about the kid so I cant really comment on his skills or potential. The last pick left from the K-Mart deal is the Clipper pick. I can tell you that unless it is part of a package to get an elite type PF, it wont be given away. Not for a Gooden or Wright. The Nets do have their own 06 pick, which they were going to use to acquire Reef as something to deal.
Chemistry-wise, I think that the aquisition of Jackson is much much better than the aquisition of SAR. SAR is a predominiently a scorer, finesse player. Jackson is a physical player who, I assume can rebound and play very good man-to-man defense. The best thing about the guy: he has two years left on his contract. The Nets will certainly look to aqcuire another big guy as injury insurence.

SAR isn't all that ferocious on defense and I think that's what you need. Nenad and Collins always seemed a lil too soft to me. You need someone who comes in a bangs that doesn't give a **** about anyone on the other team. You gotta a true work horse in this trade.

Marc Jackson is a much better fit than SAR is for this Nets team. He'll work harder on the boards and bang. He's not the scorer SAR is but he's still servicable offensively. Plus you only gave up a second rounder, that first is still valuable and will almost certainly be used in another trade. Sign and trade with the Raps for Alston and Bonner
A lottery protected first round pick (Clippers') for BOTH Alston AND Bonner? Tell me you're kidding 02civic. Not to mention that Bonner may not even be a Raptor and the salaries don't work out.
Marc Jackson isn't a very good rebounder. SAR would've been better. Marc has a nice mid range jumper and benefited greatly like Kyle Korver did on pentetrations by Iverson last season. He's painfully slow, I think Yao could beat him in a foot race. I think he'll be good off the bench but definitely not starting material at all. I'd rather see Cliff over him in the line up. I see the pick up like the Elden Cambell pick up for the Pistons, as an option to gaurd Shaq. In the '03 playoffs, Marc did a fine job on drawing Shaq out from the paint cause of his jumper and being a big strong body to hold Shaq. Shaq destroys us everytime we played and I think this is a nice piece to perhaps hold Shaq to 25 points instead of 35+
Any chance Sam Clancy makes the roster to provide some points on the inside for the Nets? He was a beast in the summer league and averaged close to a double double for the Nets team. I realize he's undersized, but most PFs in the league, especially out East have undersized backups.
