Best shooter in the NBA? I don?t know about that, but he opted out of his contract, and became a free agent. His choices are down to returning to Miami or signing a deal with the Cleveland Cavalier.
Yeah, he was a free agent. He opted out of his contract to get more money. The heat already have their starting PG, and don't want to pay DJ big bucks which is why he has more of a chacne of going to Cleveland who desperatly needs a PG.
I don't know why some players pull off this kinda thing. You are Damon Jones. You're very very close to winning the ring with the Heat, why would you wanna leave?? Yeah the money factor I can see, but if I were him, I'd just sign w/ miami for a year or 2. Besides it's not like Miami's gonna offer me crap $ either..
I dont get it... A signed NBA player gets enough money to get set for the rest of their life, or atleast for a very long time. If you are good, you will probably have enough money to do almost anything you want. But then you have to concider how much you will play. How fun do you think it is to win a ring if you didnt contribute in games? I doubt Darko is any proud of his ring, because he didnt contribute at all. I dont know about Damon, but would he be the second or third PG behind Williams and perhaps Wade? If so, he probably wouldnt get to play much, and that might be the reason to wanting to sign with another team.
Theres no way I see Damon returning to Miami when he can compete for the starting spot and more money in Cleveland...if the Cavs manage to get him, MAN, did they have an awesome offseason...
Damon might be relegated to a 2nd stringer, but he will be an important piece to that team. Kinda like how Lindsay Hunter / Mike James were important pieces to Detroit's championship 2 years ago. To me, that's still better than going to Cleveland and gamble on a long shot on even getting a crack at winning the ring.

Apart from Peja and Ray Allen, I can't think of a better shooter. Anyway, as I said in the other thread, every team needs a player like Damon Jones who shot 43% from beyond the arc last season. I think he will stay with the Heat unless another team show him so serious interest.
He's definately not the best, not even Top 5. Damon Jones is a good shoot when their's no defensive pressure geared towards him, and he's taking open three's being fed to him by Shaq and Wade. Remember when Redd was a sixth man on Milwaukee? Even then he was getting a lot more defensive pressure than DJ, and he shot 43.8 and 44.4% from 3PT range in those seasons. As a first option, he's shot about 35% both years. Guys like Ray Allen, Peja, Redd, Nash, Dirk, Finley, even Vince would shoot extremely high percentages from outside if they were just shooting open shots all day,and Damon Jones is not in their category.

The difference with Damon last year was that alot of his three's were key. Alot were when the Heat were level in points or 3's that led to streaks in the game. I think that's what was important about him last year. He also played well without holding much of the ball and passing it off to Wade or Shaq. He didn't need to run through 3 picks before he could get his shot off.
