First of all.. is nice to be back I haven't posted here in a long time but I felt an urge to do that when I read this news and sportsrock wasn't online:P

The Los Angeles Lakers waived PF/C Brian Grant.

Would it be possible for us to get him with our.. I forget the name but it's around $6.. maybe sign him for a year or two? I think it would make us really good with Howard,Kato,Battie, Brandon Hunter? and Grant as our PF/C's. Also he could replace our honorable rookie Frank Vazques or whatever his name is:D.

Any reasons besides other teams wanting to add him that might take us out from that race?

You mean our MLE we spent most of it on Keyon Dooling. I believe we have about 2 million or less of it left. If he would take that to come to our organization I guess it would be possible. Play a few minutes a night, and mentor the guys then I guess we have a shot, but at this point in his career I doubt he will want to come into a organization striving to just simply make the playoffs. I believe a team with a shot at a title will receive the most attention from Grant for his serves.

You're right, we need some more front court help. BKS already mentioned a few points, but as usual I want to add a few things.

Grant still gets his money paid from LA, so he gets anyway about $30 million over the next two seasons, regardless of what he would get paid from another team, this would just lower the money LA has to pay to him.

So, he might be looking for a longer deal and I don't know whether we should offer him this longer deal.

The other thing is, as BKS said, he might want to go to a title contender. In fact, I've heard that he expressed his wish to join Miami again.

I wouldn't mind adding Brian Grant to our team under three conditions.

First off, he needs to understand he will be a backup on our team. We have good players down low and Grant would just be a veteren who comes off the bench to give us depth and rest our starters. He is a good player but Kelvin Cato and Tony Battie should both be ahead of him on the depth chart.

Second, he needs to stay healthy. He was injured last season with the Lakers and only started 8 games, his career low. He only averaged 3.8 point per game and 3.7 rebounds per game so you have to wonder if he can still make an impact on a team. He needs to be healthy and be capable of playing a decent amount of games next season.

Third, he has to take a paycut. Like Coranor mentioned, he is still getting paid loads of money from the Lakers so he shouldn't be asking for too much. Our remaining MLE is close to $2 million so he would have to settle for that.

Signing Brian Grant would give us excellent depth and give us an advantage every night against the opposing team's bench. With Keyon Dooling, Deshawn Stevenson, Hedo Turkoglu, Tony Battie and Brian Grant, we would have a talented bench that could start on several NBA teams.

As it seems, we're not really interested in Grant. At least I haven't read any rumours about that. Denver, Phoenix and Chicago are among teams that are interested in him.

If we got him, I think he could start at center for us. He would be a very nice compliment to Dwight, with his rebounding and not really needing the ball. Cato and Battie aren't that good and I can see him starting.

Good to see you back Tmac_Ownz, sorry I wasn't on AIM, I lost internet access for a couple of days.
