Kobe has the tallest vert in the world?

It's not his jumping vert, it's his standing vertical.

Do you mean standing still and then jumping straight up?

He doesn't have the highest vert. Didn't High Riser get 62 inches off the ground in the And1 dunk contest?

What about that Globetrotter(His name escapes me) who dunked on a 12 foot rim? Wasn't that the world record? Also, I always was led to believe a vertical was not measured as a moving jump, but rather a standing still with a upward jump. The old school way to measure a vertical was chalk on your hands, slap the wall while standing up and slapping the wall again when you jumped.

Hard to believe, the record is only 48.8 inches. Maybe he has the highest officially recorded vert or something.

There are so many people who havent tested their vert. Its kind of hard to say that he has the highest vert in the world when there are so many people who havent calculated their vert.

I agree with that- He holds the record for standing vert (what it sounds like; u stand, u jump....they measure the difference) probably because of the people that have done it and been officially recorded, his is the highest. He also might have done that once, it also might have been when he was younger and his hops were better. He's still high but not Dunk contest high like he used to be. If u measured LBJ's Vinces, MJ's in their prime I bet they'd be right up there too. And yes I'm sorry for bringing in the usual cast of characters to compare Kobe with.

LeBron probably has the stupidest ups of anyone in the NBA. Look at his arms and body, that probably means his leg muscles are pretty darn good. I remeber reading a Slam magazine special by Scoop J. And Scoop asked the Cavaliers players what was the moment that made them realize 'Bron was really gifted. They said it was in pratice where 'Bron caught an alley oop that was way off and above the backboard, and threw the ball downward thru the hoop. Normally I'd doubt this, but it's Scoop. So I think 'Bron did jump pretty high in that situation and was close to the top of the board and did throw it down.
T-Mac has pulled some really high flying dunks. I remeber one on Sportscenter when he was an Orlando player, and I actually got up and walked around mumbling "OMG" for a few minutes. Also, that Jordan dunk on Ewing had MJ rising above the square on the backboard. I've seen Marcus Haislip rise above the square for a putback dunk. I've also heard that Dr. J made some seriously high-flying plays in the ABA before he came to the NBA.

I've also wondered about the And1 baller, known as "50". He may have close to or an actual 50 inch vertical, with a running jump. A standing jump probably would max out at 38 or so for him.
Edit: oh yeah, I always loved the street legend story of Herman "Helicopter" Knowings. He jumped so high that he once found himself sitting on the hoop. Don't forget Earl "Goat" Manigault's double dunk with one ball too.

Demetrius "Hook" Mitchell anyone? I mean i find it hard to believe that Kobe has the highest vert. I think that there's people in the NBA that have higher, and also there are track stars, and volleyball players. I just find that hard to believe.

Oh damn, Hook! Heard the dude jumped over a car in a dunk contest. I also wonder about long jumpers in track like Bob Beamon. When they jump 28+ feet, they probably have a pretty darn good vertical. Some NFL players probably have a better vertical than most NBA players, muscles all over the body is more emphasized and essiental in the NFL than the NBA.

He got 62 in the city slam contest, and that is only because that was what he needed he could have kept going.

someone mentioned the kobetwo commercial..i think it was digitally modified. he didn't really jump THAT high. i think.

if you've seen one of lebron's dunk last season, particularly the one in charlotte, that was sick. his hand was nearly over the square..kobe was never able to do that. lebron definitely has higher ups than kobe.
but i still like kobe better

they dont go straight up in that show. they bend their knees when they go over the bar. theres no way he can jump 62 inches straight up without bending ur knees.. i think. did u c the other guy that jumped over a car and dunked it in city slam that was crazy.

I find it hard to believe to believe that Kobe has the highest vert too, look at him in those slam dunks he did in the dunk contest. His head was no where near where Vince, MJ or Steve Francis' level of where the rim was.
