<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Philadelphia 76ers President Billy King announced Aug. 11 that the Sixers have agreed to terms with free agent center Steven Hunter. Hunter is expected to sign with Philadelphia on Friday, Aug. 12.

?We felt Steven was one of the top free-agent big men out there. He is an extremely important addition to our team,? King said. ?He is young, athletic and a natural shot-blocker. This move really strengthens our front court.?

In four NBA seasons, the 23-year-old, 7-footer has averaged 3.9 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.10 blocks on 54.4 percent shooting from the field in 221 career games with two teams - Orlando (2001-04) and Phoenix (2004-05). Last season with the Suns, Hunter averaged 4.6 points and 3.0 rebounds in a career-high 76 games (3 starts) and appeared in all 15 playoff games off the bench, averaging 4.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.20 blocks per game.</div>

nice, now we have someone to replace mark jackson. Sad to see him go, but lindsey hunter will be a solid contributor off the bench and will be very serviceable against our division opponents. He played decent in short stretches for the Suns during the playoffs, and still has a chance on improving his game being only 23.

Eh, this is kind of bitter sweet to me- considering we had to lose Jackson in the process. And at this point, Jackson is better than Hunter. It seems that King is putting together a team that will be great in three or four years, not now by resigning Korver, Dalembert, and Green (although he's in question). Still, with this move, Philadelphia gets much more athletic and will undoubtly become an force in the future. However, at this point, Hunter is way too inconsistent for my liking and I'd doubt he'd be as much help as Jackson was to this team. Plus, we're taking a lot of risks making signings like this (I won't comment on this too much since I'm not sure of the details of this contract) and Dalembert- contracts based purely on potential. Overall, good but bittersweet move.

He's a great addition to Philly. It adds more size to their team and hes an excellent shot blocker. nice pickup.

Well looks like Billy King once again pulled one over all of us good job Billy. However, although Hunter is a great shot blocker, and has a lot more potential then Marc Jackson he is not nearly as consistent on offense as Marc, and has no where near as good of range. We lose a lot on offense in our front court with him and Sammy playing the majority of minutes, but at the same time our defense will be incredible. One thing that concerns me is the rate he picks up fouls though that may be a problem.

If you want to start talking about his faults right now, you can't forget turnover prone and how he has barely any low post moves. In my mind, we gave up a proven and consistent player in Marc Jackson for a potential player in Hunter. I guess it was a sacrifice we had to make for the future of this franchise.

Great pick up!! Hunter makes you guys WAY more athletic. Webber isn't nearly as agile as he used to be, so adding more athletic bigmen around him makes more sense. I always thought the Sixers settled for mediocracy, but now it seems like they are getting younger and better.

Way to go Billy King. A Hunter, Dalembert combination is the young, athetic center group that half the league would want to have. It seems like all that was left in signing Hunter was that he wanted the minutes at the center spot which Billy King addressed by dealing Marc Jackson. Great job Billy King, I'll definitely be buying some tickets this season.

This appears to be a good move. We now have a faster pace, more athletic big men and some defensive presence that we lost after trading Jackson. I think this will shore up our future and if we can get a break out season from him, then all the better. I think our young athletic core of players is keeping us in good stead. Cheers to Billy King, you suprised me again!!!

I hate to rain on everyone's parade.... but Steven Hunter just plain sucks.. He's detrimental to the team when he is on the floor.. He might block a shot once in a while, but that doesn't justify his turnovers and free throw shooting which is worse than B. Wallace..

Quick question I know you followed him in Orlando, and he was not that good back then, but did you follow him last season? Because he really did improve he finally took his potential, and started to do something with it. To say he sucks is unjustified if you see what he did last year. He has his down sides, but what player does not? He was still the best big man on the market, and will provide versatility to the front court off the bench with his athletics.

The guy is young, he still has plenty of time to improve every aspect of his game with time. He seems like an athletic player with good wingspan and has potential to be a decent-good defensive piece.

He needs to work on his shot though.

If it were up to me id have Dalembert and Hunter start in the frontcourt.Twin tower shotblockers would be insane.

Good job BK. It was tough seeing Jackson go, but I like the fill-in of Hunter. The combo of Hunter and Sammy as our big men is going to be sick and not that simple to stop. Once again, great job Billy King, keep us the goodwork this offseason.

You mean you want Chris Webber to come off the bench? [IMG]

Good signing, King is basically saying out with the old in with the new. The 76ers have two stars that already can possibly make them at contender, adding young players for the future just means that the Sixers are tired of investing in old (mediocre) players. Hunter has a lot of improving to do but I'm sure the 76ers and he know that already. As of now the 76ers have a legitimate backup center. They still need a backup for Webber at the power forward spot. Another thing the Sixers are in need of is another guard; after Green got hurt they are going to need a replacement for him seeing he needs surgery and time to recover. I would prefer the 76ers sign another guard, move Iguodala to the small forward spot and maybe if they get a solid guard start that guard at sg with Korver coming off the bench.

There will likely be times in which you will see a lineup like this on the floor:

    C-Dalembert
    PF-Hunter
    SF-Webber
    SG-Iguodala
    PG-Allen Iverson

Personally I wouldn't mind Mo starting that group.

Webber has difficulty guarding PFs, I think there would be a huge hole in your defense if that happened. Can't see that line working well.

Yeah I know, lol I was getting a little to excited. But still if Webber has a better knee next year he should have a little more mobility, and therefore he could be a better defender when it comes to keeping up with players. Never the less I still think that lineup will be seen wether it is the starting one or not.

Um noway, Webber had trouble defending PF's last year, even if his knees are better this year he's probably only able to guard PF's, what makes you think he has the ability to guard SF's
